Me too. I was very selfish about it and take away everything without thinking on the others. Stanley wasn't so bad either, at least he was contributing with thoughts and he had very good taste on books too. What's Lambda's origin then? She's been trapped in a logic error before, and looks like and shares a seiyuu with young Takano.

As far as I know, the details of Lambda's origin have never actually been revealed. Maybe she was around before Higurashi, or maybe she originated from Takano similar to how Bern came from Rika (although I somewhat doubt that.)

I do think it's worth mentioning that while Lambda's main connection was with Takano as her guardian, her personality more closely resembles Satoko's.

Satoko also relied on the power of certain willpower when it came to dealing with her uncle, believing that her brother would "definitely" come home some day. She also seems like the type of person Lambda would give her blessing to.

I disagree, it's a murder mystery which decides to change genre's midway through. Play through the first chapter again and tell me that the ending was planned from the beginning. (I mean in terms of tone, I realize he left clues in there. He probably put them in, the wrote around them, rather then the other way round.) Completely wrecks it's tone, I'm fairly certain someone in the writing team left or something because the change is so rapid.

But what actually bugs me is the deep ties to Higurashi. The post-modern 'decide your own truth because I couldn't be fucked' stuff with Rika, the concept of boardgames and closed box stuff, honestly ruins Higurashi's fantasy mood.

>>15866259

I didn't finish the series (read up until ange's episode which was six or seven), then I dropped it before starting the next one, but I have to agree that the series does some pirouettes and somersaults as it goes forward in episodes.

I still think Episode 1 was the best of them all precisely because it explored that murder mystery angle while still omitting enough information from the reader to ground the whole thing in reality. A bunch of people come to an island eyeballing the family's inheritance, and there's just no way it can be split between everybody, so people start dying in gruesome ways. All the while this weird legend about a golden witch hangs in the air, which gives the whole thing a really interesting mystique vibe.

I still think that point where Battler is presumably the last one alive in the mansion, and he rushes towards the entrance to supposedly face off against the killer, then the episode suddenly ends, really made the whole thing come on its own. You never get to see if it was Beatrice or if it was someone else in the island. So fucking good. Then the other episodes came and introduced parallel universes and wacky cast members in ridiculous attires and tons of alternate scenarios that... it just kinda lost its way, I think. Which sucks because the first episode is that well written in my opinion.

Yeah I think it really loses the meat of the story. Which was the intense air of mystery, general intrigue and wonder. I think 2-3 still had some of this, although admittedly less.

Then here comes 4-8, it just smashes that tone to bits with every single thing at it's disposal.

Want to give a shit about the character progression?
They've been dead the whole time
Want to have a consistent tone?
The final fight in between the cast and a fleet of pirate ships floating in an alternative dimension
Want an ending?
Fuck you post-modern figure it out yourself

I actually just did that recently. Honestly to me it just felt like Ryukishi wrote the first arc to be similar to Higurashi since that was what fans were familiar with, then the later arcs started to diverge into a new story.

>>15866344
I'm not saying that at all. I actually like the story in it's entirety, and only learned about BT's death afterwards. All I'm saying is that Ryuukishi's writing was definitely affected by the fact that he was mourning the loss of a loved one at the time.

Just look at the scenes in Dawn where Battler is regretting the fact that Beato will never read the story he wrote for her, or at the happy author/editor dynamic between Tohya and Ikuko. The last few arcs contain several hints that they were written by a man who misses his friend.

I don't really think the story changed tone midway, I think Chiru was the only reasonable place the story could have gone. Think about it. Each episode was delving more and more into the fantasy/ meta-verse and I think this was something intentional. Events and narration in the series got more ambiguous and fantastical as it went on, it never changed tone as drastically as you make it out to be.

If you're referring to the fact that Battler goes from hating Beatrice and wanting to kill her to marrying her, again, I don't think it's a straight jump. Even in episodes 1-4 Battler had a few moments where he showed enjoyment for playing Beatrice's game, what ends up triggering the whole overall plot for episode 5 and the rest of Chiru is that Beatrice ends up giving up, which leads Battler to try and figure out the motive. And once he figures out the motive, he's much more sympathetic to Beatrice than he was before. I can understand people not liking that, but I wouldn't call it a drastic tone shift.

I guess people might not like Chiru because it ends up focusing more on the why of the mystery rather than the how and the what, but that's part of the charm of it for me, I feel as if I'm in the minority in liking Chiru over the first four arcs. Though, I do think Chiru ends up enhancing the first four arcs.

>the only way for the straight laced mystery to go was all the way up its own ass with mystery dimension shifting Victorian dressed witches
Good god no

The entire meta dimensions was a mistake. All the meta stuff actually does is absolutely wrecks the basic tenants of a crime and mystery novel, which is establishing truth. Because it goes post-modern believe your own truth. Which is absolute tripe, it robs the payoff. That and the basically all levels of the mystery were a letdown, the who, why etc. The fact that it ends up being a character who's name we don't even know between 1-4 (Yasu) just shows how completely out of his ass the whole thing was.

That and Ange existing is also pretty bad. She's an entire extra level of cheese bullshit, with suddenly the entire series by the end being from her perspective. She essentially becomes the protagonist because the writer couldn't figure out how to unfurk the plot from just one perspective alone. That and her quest for truth and the goat analogy really was the author, just saying 'Don't like my post-modernist stuff? Fuck you'.

The ending itself wasn't especially bad, I just think it was endemic of the rule of cool stuff that characterised the later umineko chapters. It was this nice little murder mystery, and now we are in pirate boats defending the golden land from a horde of goat pirates lead by a pervert investigator. All to defend mother dreams of a girl from the future whose family got murdered. Honestly it's more just absurd then a mystery at that point.

That and of course the ending is not definitive. Because post-modernism hates closure, making statements or reliable narration in general.

How does that imply R07 pulled it out of his ass? I think there are many hints if you go back through the story.
> That and her quest for truth and the goat analogy really was the author, just saying 'Don't like my post-modernist stuff? Fuck you'.
With the goat analogy, it's shown that both Will and Dlanor do respect the goats, so I don't think it's an author saying "fuck you" to the readers. They talk about how fun it is to battle a mystery out like this. I think the only type of goat that gets really shit on in the story was the goat that said he gave up thinking on the mystery because he thought that theorizing about it was a waste of time. (But that's just Will getting angry at the goat, I wouldn't know for sure what Ryukishi's opinion is).

My opinion on Ange getting a lot of focus on the end is at that point both Battler and Beatrice's arcs had finished, the only story arc that had to be wrapped up was Ange, so it makes sense that she got a lot of focus at the end.

>> No.15869461

I see your point, but don't you just love to hate her? That's the mark of a good villain in my opinion. Someone you absolutely hate and who deserves no redemption or mercy. Think of Joffrey from Game of Thrones. Sick, psychotic bastard who kills women for fun and enjoys seeing the suffering of others. But if you take a step back and look at him as an outsider, you start to understand him. Born of incest, raised by an overprotective and psychotic bitch of a mother and a "father" who didn't give half a shit about him. He was given too much leeway as a child and this made him fucked in the head. And then he got the position of King of the whole fucking continent, no wonder it went to his head.
Sorry for going off-topic for a bit, but I was just trying to sketch a different villain everyone loves to hate. But if you take a step back you can see WHY or HOW a villain turned out this way. You can still hate them. I just like a villain with a backstory, something that helps you understand how they became this monster you see now. Evil for the sake of evil is just bad writing.

Did anyone see the Takano reveal coming? I never read the VN (am planning on reading it soon), just watched the anime years ago and it came as a complete surprise to me. Was it more heavily hinted at in the VN or was it a genuine surprise to many of you?

Hahaha, you got tricked for thinking Lambda's sacrifice had meaning when it was all part of the play. Did you forget that Lambda is arguably as evil as Bernkastel? She just masks it behind pretending being an airhead.
Lambda promised she would protect Beatrice so long as her magic allowed her and revealing the diary's secret would end in a loss. That's why Lambda helped.
She just bitched a bit so that her ''acceptance'' would be cheered. But then you ask, why would she do that, right? Because she wanted to be in the top tens, as she obviously says right afterwards.

Bernkastel says upfront that she's a cunt and we were naive to believe there was some good in her. Lambda is a ruthless asshole that only helps her own side.

Remember when she got Ange to nullify herself in ep 4? Or when she told Beatrice to take it more seriously? That's the true Lambda.

It's impossible for me to say. Both stories have different things I love about them.
I prefer the characters in Higurashi and definitely the atmosphere. Keiichi's slow decent into paranoia and madness is amazing, and you as a reader feel it right along with him. There are a lot of cool stories in Higurashi as well and I love the isolated village setting.
Then again I fucking love Umineko. I'm a sucker for murder mysteries and Umineko was just an absolute treat. I loved the puzzles, the fights, the fucking music. Although the atmosphere wasn't nearly as creepy as Higurashi, Umineko still had incredible moments, like the first twilight in the first game. I love 'em both to bits for different reasons

I felt Umineko had a more epic and ambitious scope to it that Higurashi lacked. Also, I feel as if Umineko is somewhat of a cynical extension to Higurashi, if you could call it that. If the main message of Higurashi was the fact of always being open to the people around you regardless of what you are going through, then Umineko kinda counters that by showing why that never really ends up happening in real life.

I love this, there's even a list of "red truths" on the wikipedia page.

/RED/ Six of the group members died of hypothermia and three of fatal injuries.
/RED/ There were no indications of other people nearby on Kholat Syakhl apart from the nine travelers.
/RED/ The tent had been ripped open from within.
/RED/ The victims had died 6 to 8 hours after their last meal.
/RED/ Traces from the camp showed that all group members left the campsite of their own accord, on foot.
/RED/ To dispel the theory of an attack by the indigenous Mansi people, Dr. Boris Vozrozhdenny stated that the fatal injuries of the three bodies could not have been caused by another human being, "because the force of the blows had been too strong and no soft tissue had been damaged".
/RED/ Forensic radiation tests had shown high doses of radioactive contamination on the clothes of a few victims.
/RED/ Released documents contained no information about the condition of the skiers' internal organs.
/RED/ There were no survivors of the incident.

So what happened, /seacats/? Can you solve this mystery? Was it the work of a human, or a Yeti? Come at me with full force!!!

That has to be true. The tent was cut from the inside. But what could possibly scare 9 experienced hikers out of their tents so much that they did not bother to get dressed? They knew they could not possibly survive long outside the tent without gear. It could have been one of the hikers inside the tent attacked the rest of them, which made it so they had no time to put on their gear. He could have had a weapon and stood in front of the entrance to the tent, which explains why a hole in the tent needed to be made. They then escaped and ended up dying of hypothermia.

If it was something outside of the tent that killed them, one of the nine people would have likely heard something outside. They would then have time to put on their gear and escape through the entrance of the tent.

Experienced hikers would know the signs of an avalanche. They would also not camp out for the night at a place prone to avalanches. Contrary to what movies show us, avalanches are really rare.

So to answer your question, there had to have been something out there that seemed worse than dying of exposure to the elements. And for 9 experienced hikers that is saying something. It must've been an attack. Either animal or possibly human. In the dead of night, three of them were killed in the chase, the others lost in the night and frozen to death overnight.

Exposure isn't something people know or can recognize. It's one of the scariest deaths because you can't see it, touch it, feel it or taste it yet it can randomly kill you without even knowing. And slowly.

Got it!

Radiation mines were being parachuted at night. The wind blew away the parachute from the designated site and happened to fall nearby the group.
Explosions were heard from far away and slowly got closer to the camp. Fearing for their life, the group cut from the inside to run. A few got hit by flying mines while the others, running on their own in the night, died of hypothermia.

The explosions themselves were never disclosed because the military wanted to hide the error. The snow also hid most of the explosions by filling them over the few days of snow.

It's useless, it's all useless!
There's no point in the military having any sort of program there. There were no vicious animals indigenous to that area either. All hikers were experienced, knew what they were doing. Only one thing makes sense, premeditated murder. One of the 9 must have had a reason to want to kill the rest. It's quite easy when you think about it. Simply cause an uproar, make everyone run outside and die of the cold or finish the job yourself with a weapon. The killer must've made a mistake and died among them. This is the only logical explanation that does not allow mysterious wild animals or some sort of collusion with the military, which I refuse to believe in!

Red Truths are used as justification for the detective to look for other evidence.
For example, if I say in red that the door could only be locked by a single key, it's pointless to assume that there can be multiple keys to build on your theory, but you cannot use the red truth that there is only one key as the basis of your theory.

What evidence did Battler have that proved that Natsuhi was innocent? Nothing but magic or a random guess, and that's a violation.
A red used to show someone's death is not a basis of theorizing. It's just a statement of fact.

The games weren't spam. Spam is posting pictures of cute girls without adding anything to the discussion. The games were fun and imaginative and had many anons playing along, providing theories etc. And those posts branched out into different topics and ended up with bustling threads.
Now look at us. 5 posts in 24 hours.
Which do you prefer?

Please elaborate on why you would rather reside in a dead thread than a lively one with actual discussion going on. Seriously, tell me, I'd like to have an actual discussion again, it's been a while.
Then again, if you really prefer having 5 posts in 24 hours, you'll probably not reply to this post anyway.

The games going on constantly wasn't very interesting. We didn't need them every thread taking up every post in every thread. Original content is what is needed across several types along with discussion about the series. When it's just a single topic swallowing up every thread it's not fun to read.

Well, according to the Wikipedia Sarcasm is "a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter gibe or taunt." Sarcasm may employ ambivalence, although sarcasm is not necessarily ironic. "The distinctive quality of sarcasm is present in the spoken word and manifested chiefly by vocal inflections". The sarcastic content of a statement will be dependent upon the context in which it appears.
Fascinating. Today I learned something new!

This thread is pure cancer.

You are a bunch of deluded faggots that keep disguising the bullshit you just came up with as "truths" and putting it above what the work says. You keep jerking eachother off. You cannot think outside the fandom and the "solution" boxes. You all look disabled to me.

You all disgusting retards keep avoiding discussing umineko with actual clues, you keep pushing chiru's nonsense crap on when someone else talks about something that has nothing to do with whatever the crap EP8 came up with, you keep deluding yourselves to think solving the mystery is not important, or even you are actually reaching some kind of truth. When someone else comes and proposes an alternative, you all shut them up with your mass-thinking. You cannot stand the idea someone else coming up with something that could be right and you didn't think of it before, and automatically think they are wrong.

None of you give a single damn about solving or descovering anything. All of you care is to look cool with your name and animu OC, and pass as "great thinkers and detectives". Bullshit. You are all pathetic no-ones in an imageboard discussing a fucking doujin novel for years and years while being totally unable to reach an actual conclusion. Thats what I call losing your time for good. It's really needed to find stronger words than the simple "incompetent" to describe you in red.

You don't even deserve to be called "goats". Keep haunting this logic error of debate forever, never find the way out of this shithole.

Arguments can be made in favour of both, it's rather difficult. It's postmodern as in it's a deconstruction of the genre. It also strings the reader along, thinking they will get a straight answer to this murder mystery, but then they aren't given an answer at all and much is left blank. Then again it could be considered post-postmodern as in it takes the idea of leaving things unanswered but actually gives you fairly hard hints in order to get the answer yourself. In essence, a deconstruction of a deconstruction. It might actually be unique.

Riddle me this.

Genji is found dead, hanging by the neck by a noose in the garden shed. A small stool is found next to him, knocked over. He is naked. The garden shed was locked from the inside. The only key that can be used to open or lock the garden shed is in his trouser pocket which is lying beside him in the garden shed.
Genji did not commit suicide.

What happened?

Genji is a fan of autoerotic asphyxiation. He is smart enough to use the stool to teeter on the brink of choking, but also smart enough not to knock it over. He locked the door, undressed, and began masturbating. Unfortunately for him, Godha, in a rage of jealousy at Natushi's preference for the aging servant over himself, stalked Genji and found out about his alone time. Then, as Genji was just about to orgasm, Godha, who had hidden himself in the shed earlier, kicked the stool out from underneath him, resulting in his death.

Ah, I spotted your post too late! You're spot on!
Genji simply wanted some autoerotic asphyxiation time alone. He locked the shed, undressed and got into position. During his passionate session however, he accidentally knocked the stool over and was left to hang, knowing nobody could save him as he had locked himself in.

Quite an easy one, I have to say. Thought I'd try my hand at some one-off mysteries instead of creating a whole game to clog up the thread.

I did not say that EVERYONE was the devil either, only those that like nipples. I stated that only the devil likes nipples. Assuredly, you will find other people who also like nipples, but they are not humans, they are the devil!
Anyone who do not like nipples are humans!

/Red/ You are the devil
/Red/ You like nipples
/Gold/ the Devil can be many people
/Blue/ the devil can be an infinite number of people, including most of humanity!

What proof do you have that everyone likes nipples? Raven paradox!
The devil is not restricted to a single body!

I have already given you the reds that I am indeed the devil, and that I indeed like nipples.
And because I believe you deserve them, I will verify your gold and blue.
/RED/ The Devil can be many people!
/RED/ The Devil can be an infinite number of people, including most of humanity!

HOWEVER!
Does not every babe suck from their mother's teat? Does not every human that is born into this world acquire sustenance from their mother's nipples? Do they not need it to survive? Would you say that all babes across this world are me, the Devil? Would you say they are not human? Is it not human to feast upon the milk of thine mother? If those who enjoy nipples are in fact me, the Devil, then is not every single human being that is born, by default, me?

No! That's simply instinct, not enjoyment!
Babies are only attracted to nipples as a survival mechanism, not out of enjoyment! Babies cannot tell whether they like nipples or merely suck on them instinctively. A baby can also be given a bottle that resembles a nipple to suck on and live a perfect healthy life. Babies do not like nipples!

Survival is not a measure of enjoyment or a decision! Nor is it mainly a human activity! Many mammals also suck on nipples at an early age but none do so after they've grown out of childhood.

>If those who enjoy nipples are in fact me, the Devil, then is not every single human being that is born, by default, me?
Such sophistry. Would you also claim that all animals who suck nipples are also the devil? Useless, it's all useless.

/Blue/ A survival mechanism is not a decision
/Blue/ A decision can only be made when a person has a conscious awareness of reality and life
/Blue/ Babies do not have such awareness because they have no lasting memories
/Blue/ When people develop their first early sustained awareness, they are no longer babies, the age in which nipples are an influence on their life!

Survival may not be a measure of enjoyment. However, you cannot prove babies do not enjoy nipples! Do you not enjoy the food you eat? Is it merely a survival mechanism when you cook yourself a meal? Babies might not be given the choice, but were you to take the nipple away from them while they are unfulfilled, tears would stream down their faces! Does this not constitute enjoyment, whether they are aware of it or not?

You are trying to prove your point that all humans who enjoy nipples are me, the Devil. You want to take babies out of the equation, so be it. Then let us speak of adults! Nipples are a source of endless pleasure for adults! Their sensitivity is unparalleled, except perhaps for the major organs of reproduction. Adult women play with their nipples in order to feel sexual pleasure, and they let men do the same to their nipples. Both men and women receive pleasure from this exercise! Would you say that these people do not like nipples? Are all people who enjoy the sensitivity of nipples me, the Devil? Are all couples, fondling away in their beds, either alone or together in the dead of night simply me, the Devil?

You try to say babes do not have a say in the matter of nipples. But what about adults, with varying tastes and definite awareness? Do they not enjoy nipples? Are they all me, the Devil?

I cannot prove a negative nor should I be held accountable to prove such a claim. You are the one who must prove that babies enjoy nipples.

I enjoy the taste of food, not merely food itself. Would you keep eating rice crackers or oat meal that taste nothing for the rest of your life? I doubt even the devil would subjugate itself to such torture. People enjoy food that taste good, not the act of chewing itself because you need food to survive.

As for babies crying if they are not given nipples, that is incorrect. And I should've nailed you for that!

/Blue/ Babies will not cry if you give them a bottle with artificial milk as a replacement for nipples.

>Are all people who enjoy the sensitivity of nipples me, the Devil?
People are attracted to breast! Not nipples! You will never find a human who is attracted to nipples themselves! People may suck on nipples in sexual acts but that is simply because they are connected to breasts! The whole together is what people like, not simply nipples! People like to suck on nipples and the act of sucking is in of itself enjoyable, but not the nipples themselves.

While it's true that it’s more tempting when it’s mostly hidden, what makes it tempting is the fact that it’s so close to revealing them. It’s the thought that the clothes could shift just a tiny bit and give you a glimpse of her bare nipples. In the end, it doesn’t change the fact that deep down you want to see those nipples fully exposed.
