Welcome everyone. Since it seemed like there were quite a few persons here who enjoyed my last game, I will start another game now.

Setting is similar to the last game - meaning Shannon and Kanon don't exist, only Lion in my game - but we have 2 guests too. Furudo Erika and loli Ange.

Detective is Ange this time. Kinzo is already dead. There are 18 people on the island. Let's have some fun.

First Twilight - Krauss, Lion, Jessica, Eva, Hideyoshi, George

-scene: Secret Underground VIP Room aka The room with the hidden gold
-all victims were shot to death.

Second Twilight - Genji, Nanjo

-scene: Servants' room in the mansion
-Nanjo's corpse is missing
-Genji was strangled to death

Fourth Twilight - Natsuhi

-scene: Her own room
-found with her throat slit open

5th - 6th - 7th Twilight - Battler, Kyrie, Rosa

-scene: parlor
-all of them were shot to death

8th Twilight - Erika

-scene: her room in the guesthouse
-was drowned in the bathtub

9th Twilight - Kumasawa and Rudolf

-scene: rose garden
-both of their faces were smashed in

Ange, Maria and Gohda survive.....or?

I agree Krauss is very underrated. It's tough being the oldest sibling yet being the most incompetent. He has to put up this front and act all cool and dismissive to his siblings, but deep down he's gullible and just dreams big without any of those dreams ever coming to fruition. Jessica couldn't get a boyfriend because she lived on an isolated island. And she was really popular at school.

George could have easily gone along with the marriage interview if all he wanted was a wife.

Despite the way he acts, Battler probably didn't want to sleep around after seeing how his father turned out.

Maria was... okay yeah, she was pretty stupid. But a lot of her autism could probably be chalked up to Rosa's parenting.

Living on an isolated island doesn't automatically mean that is the reason she couldn't get a bf. Just like she practiced with her band, she could have spent time socializing with boys. Case is, Jessica was too much of an autist.

George wanted to prove his manliness by getting a gf himself. Case is, his best option was his crippled shemale uncle. Therefore, it is safe to assume George was an autist too.

Battler acts like a really obnoxious teenager, he can't act mature at all unless someone gets killed. Case is, he is too much of an autist.

Maria thinks she is a witch and is on the mental level of a 3 years old. She is autist.

I think it's safe to assume autism flows in the veins of all the Ushiromiya kids.

It's cause he's actually gay. It's why Battler/Beatrice beats George/Shannon and Jessica/Kanon. Jessica wants a boyfriend, George wants a wife, but Battler just wants some hot fuckboy ass. Ikuko is probably a crossdresser, which is why the two of them could live together in an apparent sexual relationship for several decades without marrying or producing kids, also explains what the "eccentricities" that resulted in Ikuko being disowned and banished to a house in the country were.

Scooby Doo is a children's television series and does this trope no justice. Once again I would recommend anyone to read Rim of the Pit which handles the trope brilliantly.

But in the end, to each his own. I prefer the culprit to be a human using tricks and cleverness in order to make people think the killings are the work of something supernatural. I prefer supernatural phenomenon because while they have to obey the murder laws (in other words : have a motive, and have a culprit), they also allow the murders to be pinned on something that isn't human.

This is why I really like curses, they're supernatural, which means there's no culprit, and yet they obey their own rules, so they can be understood and stopped.
With humans, since there's always a culprit, it often means there's a tragedy of event that motivated that person to resort to murder. Except if you go with the sadly popular trope of "the murderer was insane lol", but that one is damn cheap, as it removes all need to create a motive.

I think I get you. I like it when the murders are being pinned on something that isn't human, in other words a ghost, a witch, or a windigo. But I want the actual culprit and mastermind behind it to be human. And most of all, I want to, as a reader, slowly start to feel that the culprit simply cannot be human because of all the supernatural things going on. It is that moment that I love about murder mysteries like that. When you're starting to doubt it yourself, and you start to believe there actually might be a monster or ghost or whatever. Only for everything to get a proper and satisfying explanation at the end. And most importantly, I want the culprit to have a damned good reason for the things they've done. Like you said "murderer is insane" doesn't cut it.
My perfect mystery has me doubting everything until the very end, where it all makes sense and we see that one of the characters we've been with for the entirety of the book was not who we thought they were but actually a cunning mastermind with a good reason.

>I don't know how the western fanbase continues to put up with Ryuukishi, and I honestly feel that it's damaging to the community as a whole to continue to obsess this much over a single work so long after the fact. The amount of Umineko discussion is one of the reasons people who read untranslated eroge feel so disconnected from the broader western fanbase, and it's not hard to see how stifling this level of obsession can be if you take a step back. This applies to other games as well (Fate and Majikoi, for example) and I suppose to a degree it comes part and parcel with the reality that you guys are exposed to such a tiny slice of what's out there, but when the game in question is something as obviously and majorly flawed as Umineko, I can't help but feel a sense of unease, I guess you could say.

...

>Honestly, I shouldn't have even posted in here. >Murders are tragedies, and I don't read books to feel depressed, so I prefer when the culprit is supernatura, because I don't feel obliged to feel bad for the murderer.
I see your point, but the perfect culprit has a good reasons for his killings. They don't always have to be cornered and get your compassion that way. I for one love revenge killing. Something happened in the past that the culprit was affected by, they round up the old gang for a dinner party or whatever and one by one the culprit kills them out of revenge. There is a plethora of reasons the culprit might have. But I get a kick out of culprits who kill out of revenge. You sort of feel sorry for them but you cannot forgive them either.

>what about supernatural murders that have a human culprit? What do you think of these? Like curses that are casted on the victims, or monsters that are controlled?
You're mixing fantasy with murder mystery there, but I'm fine with that. As long as there are specific rules to the methods and they are followed I have no problem with a human culprit using supernatural powers to dispose of his victims, in fact I quite like the trope. The crucial point is that they follow rules, like I said. Mixing fantasy with murder is a tough job but pays off extremely well when done right.
For example, if a murderer controls creatures to do his bidding, or is able to cast curses, or has the ability to disappear from a locked room even, this must be established in the lore well before these things happen. The laws of the book have to be firm on what can and cannot happen.

I am a firm believer that a good mystery, whether supernatural or not, has to give the reader the opportunity to solve the crime just before the Detective does. Knox knew what he was talking about, I agree completely with him. So firm rules are necessary if you want to pull off a supernatural crime.

Another trope I dislike is the one Knox described as "no Chinaman must feature in the story". There were a lot of these back in the day and I just feel cheated when the culprit turns out to be an animal (Rue Morgue) or a fucking foreign jungle man with a blowpipe (Sign of Four). This is not fair on the reader in my opinion.

And if you check Metal Gear Solid 4, there's a similar effect with the big Gekkos : they sound like cicadas when they're calm, and moo like cows when they're excited. That leaves Krauss, Jessica, Rudolf, Kyrie, Battler, Rosa, Godha, Lion and Nanjo to be dead/alive.
I don't see why Krauss, Lion and Jessica could join forces to kill Natsuhi, so they're probably dead, through it has yet to be proven.

Maria is alive, but cannot be a culprit. She cannot use a gun, nor strangle Genji, nor slice Natsuhi's throat, not drown Erika.

I've seen a more liberal interpretation of Knox's 5th that says something along the lines of "No stereotypical characters must factor into the solution," or to take it a step further, you could say that, "The motive behind the culprit's actions must be shown." If look at it this way, then Knox's 5th can be used to ensure that a proper "Whydunnit" is established by the author. Yeah, having a weird foreign person use weird foreign methods to kill someone for weird foreign reasons, sometimes completely unrelated to the victim, is the absolute worst cop-out in mystery writing. It's literally the author giving up completely on coming up with an actual culprit with actual motives. It's like getting to the end of the book and finding out the conclusion is just that the author literally wiped his ass with the final page instead of writing an ending. Glad we agree. It is ridiculous. Like I said though, this happened a lot in the past but nowadays writers seem to follow Knox´ rules, whether consciously or subconsciously. I can see that Rue Morgue has historical value but you can't deny that the solution is ridiculous.
It's like a Sherlock Holmes adaptation I saw on TV once where people were found dead in locked rooms with only tiny little open windows where no human could pass through. Turns out, there was a circus in town and the evil circus master sent his fucking pygmies to do his evil bidding, having them crawl out of the locked rooms after the murders. I mean Jesus Christ. Then again, these stories were a product of their time. Foreign lands and animals were really interesting to people back then and offered some sort of mystique. >Will you bless us with a backstory to this crime? Why did Kumasawa help? Did Rosa really plan to elope with Gohda?

Rosa charms Gohda and uses him as her muscle. She will kill him along with Ange and Maria in the end. She will be a free woman finally and a filthy rich one.
Kumasawa was bribed. And about Maria...Rosa promised that after all of this is done, they will be together and live happily in the Golden Land.

1st Twilight: Rosa discovers the gold along with the others, she kills them but Eva survives. Nanjo examines Eva, George and Hideyoshi but makes a mistake and finds Eva dead. Later Rosa orders Gohda to come back and make sure everyone is dead.

2nd Twilight: Gohda kills Nanjo with a knife but Genji puts up a real fight. He is strangled in the end. Nanjo's corpse is moved to cause confusion.

4th Twilight: Maria poisons Natsuhi then cuts her throat.

5th-6th-7th: Battler and Kyrie are talking with Rosa. Rosa lured them into the parlor because she told them that she finds Erika suspicious and wants to make a plan. Kumasawa shots Battler and Kyrie. Rosa fakes her own death and Kumasawa gives her a masterkey so that Rosa can get out of the room after Gohda locks it.

8th Twilight: Erika retreats into her own room. Rosa beats her up and then drowns her.

9th: Kumasawa lures Rudolf into the garden. Rosa kills them both in a brutal way with the hammer.

Ange is killed them same way. Then Rosa shots Gohda and Maria.

You're extremely naive. I also used to believe that but you made one critical error. You assumed that ''cannot satisfy him sexually'' means never having done anything sexual.

You forgot the most important piece of information in all of Higurashi. Tenpei has a big dick.

A untrained loli cannot satisfy a grown man sexually. Especially one with such sexual prowess as Tenpei Her cute mouth, her bleached anus. Her small hands. All of those cannot satisfy Tenpei. Not to mention in ep 3, Satoko screamed, saying that she no longer wants to do yucky things, she's talking about those sorts of things.

So you see, Satoko is tained, disgusting, corrupted and broken in every way but her one remaining area of purity that matters. Because Tenpei has a big dick.

During the ending of episode 6, at the scene right before the wedding showdown between Erika and Beatrice. There's a scene where Beatrice talks to Kanon, and Beatrice starts to remember things of the past and the nature of her true identity. The last lines that are exchanged between the two are these:

Kanon: "That's no way for the witch of closed rooms to talk."
Beatrice: "So, after all, I (watashi) must be..."
Kanon: "Me (warawa)"

What does it mean? What is the difference between 'watashi' and 'warawa' that was so drastic that Witch Hunt had to point it out?
