Cuteposting RP in shallow character threads is a problem, but it pales in comparison to other issues facing the board. Something like 90% (if not more) of /jp/'s "activity" is inside those dreadful generals and more of them are created each month. I'd take 40 "Look at Chen!" threads over one general, but instead the numbers are reversed. The /jp/ community itself also needs to be harsher on crossboarders as I feel alone in some threads.

Sorry. I should have known better. It's just that recent political developments have directed a lot more attention to 4chan, and my temper got the better of me.

I am not terribly optimistic about /jp/'s future. As 4chan continues to grow in popularity the board will become faster - our unique community, to a large extent, relies on a slower pace that permits an anon to sit down, mull over her words and spend a lunch break or train ride home thinking about additional things that could be contributed to the thread. You don't have that luxury in non-generals when threads prune after a few hours.

That will probably be a ways away though...it's more likely that deaths, changing interests and life circumstances will change the community more in the short term, as people who have posted here for years are slowly replaced by others who are more accustomed to a board culture they might import from one of the larger boards.

These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our website? We're already building a new one without them. They take our 2hus? Otakus aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the 2hus our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty >misquote. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

I used to enjoy silly Touhou threads on /jp/ but actual fun people on /jp/ either have gone or rather silent so most 2hu threads you can find are unironic cuteposting and waifu thread.

In case you don't know /jp/ is never a serious board or having serious discussion as its main appeal, though whether /jp/ merely being containment for idol general and cuteposting is good or not, if /jp/ is fine with it there's nothing you can do about it, right?

I used to be against japanese culture thread but ironically now it's the only place I find comfy these days.

I used to be like you, angry at the people not discussing canon and lore.

But then after years of talking about the same materials, boring theories and ZUN only relaying so much info on lore, I've grown tired of that. On many occasions, Touhou discussions or arguments just boil down to contests to see who can call each other a secondary fast enough.

I find much more relaxation and solace in those silly little threads, comics and what have you. Somehow I think these people, or "secondaries", have more fun and enjoyment with Touhou than the "primaries".

A severe activity decline occurred during 2013-2014 and from then on it hasn't recovered, the staff simply brought here huge generals (Kancolle and monster girls) that have an insane posting rates, but the rest of the board (ever shrinking, compared with the amount of fucking generals) is slower than it's been for most of the board's history.

But seriously, there are too many generals. Idols were allowed at the beginning because they were few and self-contained, but how many are today? Not to mention those smartphone games, which I can't understand how they are "otaku culture", when the only games allowed on /jp/ have always been arcade, doujin and some MMORPG.

Though the saddest part is that it seems there is little to replace them with... I wonder where everyone from past years went. They sure aren't in the spin-offs. I'd love to have warm discussions with them again...

I guess it's good to know that we can maintain a speed that will allow us to take it easy - I just worry about who is replacing us. The people that joined in the early years are probably in gensokyo or in the workforce by now.

A lot of the newfags that are replacing us have the opinions of neurotypicals. There's the tendency to collect in generals as you've mentioned. I've also noticed that a lot of the newfags don't care about anti-censorship and pro-privacy values - they think it's okay to censor things that they don't like and that the government should control the press to fight leftism or degeneracy or whatever.

Maybe I worry too much though, but it's still very unnerving and frustrating when newfags call me a cuck degenerate because I think people shouldn't be imprisoned for masturbating to cartoons and that people shouldn't be murdered, censored or sued into oblivion because of their opinions.
