>>15668899
The others witches may or may not exist. It depends if you consider that the episode really happened or not.
But the basic idea is that it's like that:
>Beatrice is buttdevastated
>she makes a plan to kill everyone in Rokkenjima because fuck you
Since she succeeds, Lambdadelta aknowledge her as a witch and help her set up a game, just so that she can lure Bernkastel in a game and ogle her or something, meanwhile Bernkastel just tries to win.

Is it explained anywhere why there's a huge age difference between Rika at the end of Higurashi and Bern at the beginning of Umineko? I mean, when Rika separates from Bern, she'd be 100 years old at that point, but she then claims to be 1000+ years old in Umineko. What was she doing for those 900+ years?

I screwed up by playing Umineko before Higurashi, so I don't remember if there was an explanation for this or not.

Witch age is metaphorical. For instance, depending on who you ask, Beatrice is either 19 years old, 6 years old, or 1 year old (I think the letter incident was one year ago?) but she's regarded as a thousand year old witch.

Although, Bern HAS gone an indeterminate amount of time fucking around in different fragments after she stopped serving Featherine, and an equally indeterminate amount of time doing that after she realized she wasn't the 'right' Rika and became a witch.

You should go back and re-read things regarding being a witch/god and the allegory for a universe. In normal circumstances you must have acknowledgment from a being higher than you. Battler was not a witch until he fulfilled the requirement set up by "the rules" and acknowledged by Lambda and Featherine.

Also in Higurashi Takano for the same reason needed the acknowledgement of society at large in order to become a God which is just a higher form of a witch. Even though she had the equivalent of Red Truth on her side it didn't matter if no one believed her father's thesis. Similar to how Virgilias gift of "Natsuhi is not the culprit" was useless to Battler before being acknowledged by the rules of the game and being allowed to use golden truth in his own right as a witch.

Man you are so off base and clueless for someone that clearly seems to be very into WTC. Takano wanted to be God in the very figurative sense of the word by spearheading the Truth of Hinamizawa syndrome in the name of her father.

She is linchpin for the whole Higurashi story and its her force of will that earns her the same protection that any "witch" gets from Lambda and achieved the same result in ever shard except the one "miracle" where she was defeated. If she had won against Rika in the end she would have achieved her result and moved up from witch to God of the "Great Hinamizawa Disaster" as a permanent fixture of that universe, writing the narrative as she saw fit.

Nah, I am almost certain that he only did it because of the pressure. Why not reveal everything in ep 8 game too then? Because fans weren't content. R07 said that the heavy criticism almost made him quit writing entirely. Obviously he expected different/better results.

I get that he pretty much ended the franchise with the manga and thus it can be seen as him wanting to reveal everything before closing the curtain....but I am not buying it. Honestly, I don't the manga would be different the VN it weren't for shit he got for ep8.

You cannot prove a negative.

>Just like he called his loved one annoying and dumped her?
Love is an illusion, a misunderstanding.
Mutual love is a mutual misunderstanding of being mutually loved.
Love is an illusion on both sides, and so long as both sides push the illusion of love towards the other side, love will persist. However, Erika stopped her pushing and love crumbled, so the boyfriend lost the will to maintain his love.
Just as people become disillusioned by their love over time, it only takes a crack for the illusion of love to break and to seek an alternative.

There was no proof that the boyfriend did not keep pushing love towards Erika, but there is evidence that Erika lacked love by looking for a negative that could never be proven.

>There's only so many coincidences you can encounter before having to conclude that the unknown perfume, the unexplained disappearances and the weird glances he's giving to that other girl all lead to one thing.
Those are called suspicions, not evidence. If he hangs out with a girl, is that proof of infidelity? Does looking at the side when a girl passes mean that he has burning desires to rape that girl?

Without love it cannot be seen and Erika lacked love to see that he was faithful.

There's more to the story than just the mystery. An entire episode dedicated solely to explaining shit may be important, but it's boring as hell. Episode 7 has the least replay value of all the episodes because once you know the truth, there's very little else the story has to offer.

And I don't understand what you dislike about Episode 8. Just saying "it's shit" gives me very little to work with.

>o-okay I should a write a last chapter
>h-hmm what should it be about?! Idk
>okay let's have everyone in the cast fight against goats

This doesn't actually tell me anything about what you disliked about it. you can make any development in any story sound bad by phrasing it like that. For example,

>okay let's have some new detective solve it for them.

I think it is obvious what is so about ep8. It is a mess. It doesn't add anything necessary to the story. It feels like a OVA made after an anime series is over. It is a little bonus but it doesn't feel like it belongs to the series. Probably good for those who want to see their favorite characters shine one last time.

>There's more to the story than just the mystery

>An entire episode dedicated solely to explaining shit may be important, but it's boring as hell.
Yeah, I bet you missed those epic faggot fantasy scenes, right? Fucking plebs. If there isn't an epic fight scene in it then it is boring! Yeah right.

>o-okay I need to a write the explanation
>h-hmm how should I present it?! Idk

It was the most rational way to do it, after all, Battler already solved everything by the time of ep7 so it was necessary to get a new detective.

A body that can't make love implies more than just damage of the female genitalia. I really don't understand why people still think Yasu is a girl. Why the gender confusion then? What about damage to the feminine genitalia would cause confusion about gender represented by Zepar/Furfur Kanon/Shannon? In contrast, the neutering of male sexual potency, the resulting hormonal effects, and the physical change from an external penis to something that more closely resembles female genitalia makes much more sense. Add on to that being raised as a girl and you have the basis for Yasu's insanity. Thinking Yasu's a girl just lightly paints over all the tragedy to make it more easier to digest.

I never even mentioned the magic fights, so I would appreciate it if you'd stop trying to make me sound like some shonen fanboy who only cares about flashy fight scenes.

That being said, I think the fights are alright, or at least they're not as horrible as you're making them out to be. I don't understand why you're so hostile when it comes to them.

When I said that the're was more to Umineko than the mystery, I was referring to other aspects of the story such as character development, tragedy, narrative, etc.

One of the best things about Umineko is it's characters. Their personalities, backgrounds, and motivations are all very well developed over the course of the story. Even those without much screen time like Gohda and Hideyoshi still have plenty of characterization compared to the minor characters in other stories.

There's also the whole matter with regards to the story's romantic elements, although I'm gonna take a guess and say that you disliked that part as well, right? If I'm wrong then I apologize. But from what I've seen, those who dislike Episode 8 also tend to dislike Episode 6, and claim that the focus on love detracts from the story.

Without all those other elements coming into play, Umineko would be little more than a logic puzzle. Intellectually stimulating to be sure, but not something that I would have enjoyed as much as I do now.

What it all come down to is appreciating the story's emotional appeal in addition to it's intellectual appeal.

>It was the most rational way to do it, after all, Battler already solved everything by the time of ep7 so it was necessary to get a new detective.
I understand the need for another detective, but Will just felt underwhelming to me, especially since the concept of switching detectives wasn't as fresh anymore after they'd just gotten finished doing that exact same premise with Erika, who stood out much more by comparison. And it's not just Erika. A lot of entertaining characters were absent in Requiem; Battler, Beatrice, Lambdadelta, and even Ange up until the tea party. In order to make up for all those major absences, I feel like it would have been better to try to develop some of the characters that were already available rather than making a new one. For instance, they could have tried having Dlanor act as detective, maybe give her some more development before having her fight alongside Battler's in Episode 8.

The series heavily bitch-slapped me with ep2 onwards. I am one of those guys who liked ep1 the most so I wanted to kill R07 when I saw he shitted up the the whole thing with fantasy elements.

>When I said that the're was more to Umineko than the mystery, I was referring to other aspects of the story such as character development, tragedy, narrative, etc.
Certainly, you have a point.

>One of the best things about Umineko is it's characters. Their personalities, backgrounds, and motivations are all very well developed over the course of the story. Even those without much screen time like Gohda and Hideyoshi still have plenty of characterization compared to the minor characters in other stories.
Now, now let's not go overboard - there are lots of characters who get introduced and then they appear as only background characters later on - Ronove, Virgilia, Gaap, most fantasy characters for example. Umineko suffers from the issue that there are too many characters in it. Too many useless characters.
And about the examples you mentioned - Hideyoshi and Gohda can both be literally summed up in a few words. Hideyoshi - kind guy who likes history and talks in a funny way. Gohda - show-off master chef who can be an ass sometimes but good guy on the inside.

Yes, there are good characters in Umineko, but most of the characters don't do much. What was the purpose of Ange's bodyguard? What was the purpose of Kumasawa? Just to mention the two most bland ones.

You guessed right, ep6 and ep8 are the weakest ones in my eyes.
My order is
Legend > Banquet > End > Requiem > Alliance> Turn > Dawn > Twilight

To tell the truth, I am not entirely anti-romance. I just don't like teen romance. I liked the parts about the adult's relationships but Shannon and Kanon....god I hated them.

>Without all those other elements coming into play, Umineko would be little more than a logic puzzle. Intellectually stimulating to be sure, but not something that I would have enjoyed as much as I do now.
Character development is one thing but some characters are down-right boring. Again, Shannon and Kanon. Why is it necessary to listen to ">tfw furniture" for hours? All right, Yasu and all but still....those two got an ungodly amount of screen time.

Ushiromiya Ange was there. She was on Rokkenjima during those two days.
The reason Rudolf and Kyrie left her home was because they were afraid of her. The young girl already showed signs of craziness so they didn't bring her along. However!! She sneaked out and followed after the family! Battler was her accomplice and helped her to stay hidden from the eyes of the other!! They killed everyone but in the end Eva found out they are culprits but she believed Battler forced Ange into killing and shot Battler! She didn't know that it was the other way around!! Ange attacked Eva and the two fought. Ange was hit hard on her head, causing her to pass out. Honestly, the only logical thing I can think of is that Yasu has an appropriate kind of baby face needed to pull it off. If she had too much of a boyish face it wouldn't work. Aside from cosmetics, expression and demeanor would probably help too. Like Kanon always looks like he has a stick up his ass while Shannon looks sweet and innocent, probably helps a bit. She also changes her hairstyle. There are guys that can make legit traps so I don't see how Yasu couldn't do it too provided she has the right body type.

Also Lion manages to look androgynous enough that many people can't tell his gender at first glance. Other than that I got nothing and even I'm a little skeptical of this.

That's silly. None of the cousins hated each other like their parents. What's sad is that Battler never got to rub her head in Maria's breasts when she grew up.

Their parent's relationship also didn't change over the years.
Eva was a spiteful little passive aggressive cunt.
Rosa was the shy one always trying to not get between arguments while her siblings would purposefully make her take sides for the sake of winning an argument.
Krauss acted like the smart and responsible one.
Rudolf didn't give a shit but had somewhat of a rivalry with Krauss as brothers tend to have.

I didn't. When Battler presents Georges to the audience in the first episode, he seems really amazed by Georges' success, and explain that in the meanwhile, he's still in high-school and doesn't have a plan for his life.
And later, Georges explains he doesn't have anything to say, and that he envies battler who was able to turn his back to Rudolf.

The cousins are way better than the adults because they never had Kinzo to fuck them up and were raised under the influence of foreigners to the family.
Kyrie, Hideyoshi, Natsuhi were all very helpful to help raise the childrens properly.
Of course, Maria is the exception, since she doesn't have a father and Rosa is an unresponsable wreck.

>he seems really amazed by Georges' success, and explain that in the meanwhile, he's still in high-school and doesn't have a plan for his life.
That's lip service and first encounter praise. Id you've ever had family conferences, you'd know that when families meet and talk about their accomplishments, to a degree or another, they make themselves look good without mentioning any of the realities.
At face value, George is doing well for himself working at his father's company and he has good grades. As a cousin, of course you'd congratulate him, that's completely natural. But only because you don't know the truth.

In one of my favorite songs, there's a small passage that I always love.

>No one will ever love you
>For everything you are

>And so you build up layers of deception
>And you leave out things to alter the perceptions
>Of the ones you love
>Who would never love you back
>If they knew all about you
>Every solitary fact

>And the sadness of your life
>Is built upon this lie
>Of really knowing anyone
>Or having them know you

>It's the sadness of the world

If Battler knew the true George, even pass his accomplishments, he wouldn't congratulate him. He only congratulates him on the layers of deception and what is perceived. When you have family conferences, you never show your true self, you never expose your weaknesses, only your strong suit in a false attempt at platitude. You can see it extremely strongly at the beginning of ep 1. Everyone's all 'heeyyy, wow Battler you've grown, arghhh Eva you so silly, awww Maria you're so cute'' with everyone having a good time. That fake facade of family reunions.

Also
>When Battler presents Georges to the audience in the first episode, he seems really amazed by Georges' success, and explain that in the meanwhile, he's still in high-school and doesn't have a plan for his life.
That's amazement, not jealousy.

>Georges explains he doesn't have anything to say, and that he envies battler who was able to turn his back to Rudolf.
That's exactly my point, envy is a form of jealousy.

Battler admires George for having a path in life.
George is jealous of Battler's relaxed attitude.
You've mixed both of them up.
>>15679758
>yeah maybe you are right.
I'm usually always right.

>Still, there are always some negative traits you inherit from your parents.
I highly disagree. The sin of the father and all that shit. Just as a father's talent does not rub off in the son, sins and negative traits do not. Of course, some traits obviously do get passed down, but not to the extent that it guarantees success or negative traits.

>Actually, Rudolf was the worst bully out of the three older siblings.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Hatred gets passed along, so when Krauss makes fun of his little brother, Rudolf bullies his siblings.

>> No.15679841

>>15679729
George secretly looked down on Battler though, because of his unrefined attitude and personality, same as Jessica. He was also a beta that blamed women for not being attracted to a "nice guy" like him and got jealous Shannon fell for Battler and he attracted all the girls to him, so George fell into the women only fall for assholes meme.

George could literally try to pursue any other woman outside of Rokkenjima but decided to target Shannon because she's weak-natured and innocent, an easy target. I'm certain George would be pissed if he found out about Shannon's body because she talked with him about starting a family and lied about it.

Lesson: never skip anything in Umineko.

But it really is fun to analyze the four siblings and come up with results as to who is the most likely to murder.

>Krauss
He is only talk and no action. He pretends to be a tyrant but probably it was only in his childhood. After that, I have a feeling he learned his place in the world.
As an adult he only pretends to be a dick because that is the image he built up for himself in the family.
All in all, less likely to be a murderer.

>Eva
Very high chance to kill. Very greedy but her main flaw is her hatred against her brother and her inferiority complex which makes her a sadist.

>Rudolf
Also very high chance of becoming a murderer but probably less than Eva. Mainly because he doesn't like to dirty his hands but would act as accomplice to Kyrie no doubt, letting her take care of most of the work.

>Rosa
Second highest possibility to become a killer, after Eva. Lots of repressed frustration and anger towards her family and everyone in general. Probably would even kill Maria.

Generally a nice guy but would kill for his family. I don't think he would kill alone, only as accomplice to Eva. I think I could even say it in red that Hideyoshi only kills in kakeras where Eva is the killer.

>Kyrie
Very high chance. She has yakuza/mafia ties so it is probably no surprise that she would be the most likely to dirty her hands with blood. Plus, she is kind of an outsider since she has no Ushiromiya blood in her veins which means she could kill them without regret easily.

>Natsuhi
She has an inferiority complex just like Eva but in contrast to Eva Natsuhi has a very strict moral code and she has a very big desire to fit into the family and make them proud of her so I would say very low chance of becoming a murderer.

Yeah, no. I can't see Hidebroshi able to harm a fly. Even if Eva was to murder everyone, he would try to stop her instead of helping her.
And about Kyrie... Well, having ties with the yakuzas doesn't make you a murderer automatically. Even her sister only tried to kill Ange because she was frustrated and out of options, Kyrie would need to be cornered and able to make it out unscathed for try anything.

So in the end, it's literally just your opinion.

Kyrie was always an interesting character for me. I always wondered why she was so attached to Rudolf enough that she would literally kill for him. Money would be a reason but it didn't seem like an enough reason even though she would kill for it. She was unhealthily obsessed with him to the point where she didn't care if he cheated or not. She was ready to murder Asumu just to get Rudolf back. Maybe she saw in Rudolf the same ruthlessness she had and was attracted to that. But the moment she found out Eva killed Rudolf, Kyrie easily discarded Rudolf because he was no longer the man she admired for his ruthlessness.

Kyrie has no familial ties other than in name to the Ushiromiya family and probably could care less about them. She puts up a front to Battler just because he's Rudolf's son. She admits Ange is just a shackle to hold Rudolf down, just like how she got pregnant with Battler to steal him from Asumu but Rudolf switched the baby. She was cold and ruthless when murdering the cousins, so no soft spot for children.

Perhaps coming from a crime family would make her lack empathy and become more ruthless. Kyrie became Rudolf's business partner for a reason, she helped him turn profits and in the business world you need to be ruthless. Backstabbing and corruption happen all the time. It's probably the same way with the Ushiromiya family for Kyrie.

Probability defintiion: the extent to which something is probable; the likelihood of something happening or being the case.
synonym: likelihood, prospect, expectation, *chance*, chances, odds

Probability is not a direct proof of cause and effect but a generalization and chance.
Chance is not evidence. The chances of someone being born from a family from a family of crime is not evidence that they will commit a crime.

>No it is evidence.
How is it evidence? What does knowing if a person was born poor, born from a rich family, born from a crime family constitute as evidence?
Saying it's evidence does not make it so. It's intuition and nothing more. You would never use this fucking shit in a court of law.

>That comes after you find a suspect.
Holy shit. Evidences leads you to a suspect. You don't find a suspect and THEN pin evidence on him.
You suspect someone based on motive, you collect evidence and if the evidence matches and can pinpoint a culprit, only then do you make an arrest. Then you go to a trial to present evidence to see if that evidence has validity.
If the only evidence you have is where the person was born, you'd get fucking laughed at in a judicial court. This is why people don't arrest suspects until they have evidence. You can make guesswork to suspect someone but you cannot arrest someone based on guesswork. If there is no evidence, you absolutely cannot arrest someone by law. At best, you can bring someone in for questioning and through some shit intense interrogation, make them confess to the crime, which only that itself is considered as evidence.
You don't simply suspect someone of a crime, bring them to court and accuse them of a crime using suspicions as evidence.

>I guess that is guesswork too so detectives mustn't arrest suspects right?
Detectives use guesswork to narrow suspects and suspect someone of committing the crime but THEY CANNOT ARREST SOMEONE WITHOUT EVIDENCE.
A person recently changing someone's will to leave everything behind to someone found dead is not evidence. It's suspect, but not evidence.
A person found tampering someone's life insurance is suspect, but not evidence. It's possibly motive NOT EVIDENCE.

>Maybe not solid evidence but evidence isn't everything.

I'd like to make it known to the jury that it's obvious Kyrie committed the crime; she was born from a yakuza family! This guilt by association shows clear guilt and intent. There can be no mistake from this view. Thank you

Well it's clear now that Kyrie killed the family. I mean, being born from a Yakuza family? That's clear intent. We find her guilty!

Because it doesn't matter if it's not solid evidence, evidence isn't everything.

it stops being evidence.

I don't think you understand the difference between suspecting a person and convicting a person based on a suspicion.

A person related to gang activity being around the crime scene is suspicious and can be brought for an interrogation. Using it as your only evidence is fucking wrong.

>I am one of those guys who liked ep1 the most so I wanted to kill R07 when I saw he shitted up the the whole thing with fantasy elements.

That's fine. It's true that the story changed after episode 1, and some people weren’t happy with the new direction it took. And Legend WAS probably the best episode in terms of being a suspenseful mystery, since you could argue that adding the meta elements to the plot might detract from an actual sense of danger on the gameboard. But in the end it was only a small part of what Umineko became, as the other episodes expanded on the story’s other aspects. Plus, disavowing 7/8 of the series just seems kind of sad to me.

>there are lots of characters who get introduced and then they appear as only background characters later on - Ronove, Virgilia, Gaap, most fantasy characters for example.

Well, I’ll agree at least that the furniture characters that get introduced in sets generally ended up getting little characterization as individuals due to always being tied to their respective groups, with the exception of characters like Dlanor who actually got some screentime on their own.

>Hideyoshi and Gohda can both be literally summed up in a few words. Hideyoshi - kind guy who likes history and talks in a funny way. Gohda - show-off master chef who can be an ass sometimes but good guy on the inside.

That’s still more characterization than a lot of side characters in modern anime, who often get no development and just fulfill a cliche, such as being “a perverted best friend”, or “a tsundere childhood friend.”

>What was the purpose of Ange's bodyguard? What was the purpose of Kumasawa? Just to mention the two most bland ones.

From what I can tell, Amakusa’s purpose was to act as a voice of warning to Ange, telling her to reconsider the path she’s taking, like during the scene where he talks to her about about child soldiers. And when Ange still refuses to change he ends up being forced to kill her, showing how Ange’s behavior had turned even those closest to her against her.

I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed with Kumasawa, because she had the potential to be a pretty interesting character. Like during Virgilia’s introduction when she suddenly shows a more serious side. And I really wish that they’d expanded more on her role as a surrogate mother to Shannon/Yasu.

>To tell the truth, I am not entirely anti-romance. I just don't like teen romance. I liked the parts about the adult's relationships but Shannon and Kanon....god I hated them.

Personally, the teen romance didn’t really turn me off. But I can see how it would be annoying for someone who didn’t like it, since it just becomes more and more prominent as the story goes on. I particularly liked the development they gave Kanon and George in Dawn. The way Kanon finally gets over his whole “furniture” complex and starts actively trying to improve himself as a person was really refreshing after all his emo bullshit up until that point. And while everyone loves to shit on George, his past as a “nice guy” added a lot of depth to his character. It’s a realistic portrayal of a mindset many people have as they go through puberty, and I think it made him a more relatable character. It also showed how he was aware of his faults but had already come to terms with the kind of person he was.

>Character development is one thing but some characters are down-right boring. Again, Shannon and Kanon. Why is it necessary to listen to ">tfw furniture" for hours? All right, Yasu and all but still....those two got an ungodly amount of screen time.

Can’t really argue with you there. While Shannon and Kanon are major characters and do get a good amount of development, it was definitely spread thin over a huge amount of screentime that could have been cut back on.

>Sadly, a lot of times the emotional appeal fell flat for me.

I’m sorry to hear that.

> And I ended up liking Lion quite much.

I also liked Lion. He was probably one of my favorite things about Requiem’s main story. It was interesting to see how the family dynamic changed with the addition of a new member. Plus, he does end up getting a good amount of development, and his interactions with Will were entertaining.

At best, you can say that you can use evidence to create a theory on what happen but when you only have guesswork and no evidence, you can't connect any dots at all.

Also, I never said that the first part of Rose Gund Days is bad, just that it's slow, goes full shonen and lacks a spark of dynamic character banter Ryukishi is known for. Then there's the whole Japan being fucked over and industrialized along with westernized that you just can't get a good feel because you're not japanese. Not to mention sometimes you have invisible random background characters yelling at something because it's undeserved and it's hard it imagine. And depending on your level of tolerance, Leo is either a funny banter guy that lets Ryukishi just go full crazy with the fight scenes with cheats turned on or just a Gary Stu shit that you can't take seriously.
It's not bad but overall, it's possibly the weakest part of the story.

lol no. But he gets a very very small amount of depth where you somewhat get where he's coming from somewhat at the beginning of Season 2.
Though it's obvious Ryukishi was self conscious of how much bullshit Leo was to the overall story and takes care of it by Season 2 in a way that I won't spoil but isn't very important. However, it does give a lot more credibility to the rest of the story and gets better once that happens. Then the story becomes the three stooges and mafia keikaku cultural warfare FUCK JAPAN IT FUCKING SUCKS.
There's also an insanely weird part in Season 2 which I also won't spoil that just comes out of fucking nowhere that Ryukishi wrote to be badass but comes off as completely disgusting. To the point where Ryukishi might have gone too far imo.
It's the part where Leo tricks Rose to sleep with him due to the promise she made to him. He just pushes her down and has his way with her, and it's later revealed that Leo tricked Rose into sex and he knew about it. Essentially, Leo raped Rose. And holy shit, I'm not a feminist but that did feel extremely wrong. It was framed as something romantic and just felt completely wrong, which is weird when the scene right after that rape is when Leo gets a bit of depth about his past and being nihilistic.

I would still recommend that you rest the rest of Rose Guns Days.
