So...why did Reimu kill the male youkai but leave all the other youkai that she's met during her time in Gensokyo alive? It's not like they were all innocent.

If it's because he was a human that became a youkai and she doesn't kill natural youkai because that's just what they are, all right, but then why wouldn't she have killed Alice or Patchu then, since they were originally humans? Or hell, even Marisa and even Reimu herself have been called 'youkai-like' at times.

Patchouli was not originally a human. There are two kinds of magicians, naturally born ones and ones that become magicians. The naturally born ones are "youkai" I guess.

It's not matter of morals, but pragmatism. She doesn't really give a shit if a youkai used to be human unless they're from the village. She's concerned that villagers might realize they can climb above their station as faith cattle by becoming youkai, which would spell the end for Gensokyo.

It's funny you say that because they ARE.

The youkai are innocent because they just do what they're supposed to do. There are very few that actually cause real and serious trouble. Like, Seija is one of them and all of Gensokyo went after her.

I don't know why people always post this. Mamizou literally says he was beyond saving.

Reimu's job is to not be nice and play politics, its to ensure balance at all costs. The humans and youkai live in a delicate balance in gensokyo and shifts in that can disrupt their world entirely. If the humans act out or do not fear youkai or believe in things, or if they all believe in some things more than others, shit goes down. Which is why the religious factions are trying to gain control of the village and their faith but are using sermons and subtle shit.

Mamizou also details how looking beyond the barrier and harboring negative emotions invites dark magic and is pretty taboo in the fortune teller story, especially when she warns Kosuzu.

There are clear rules to being a village citizen. Jinyou break these rules and when one does his whole stupid supervillain appearance in town then monologues to Reimu thinking she's a youkai instead of running and never being seen again, obviously he's going to die. Patchouli is a born magician and Alice is from Makai. Marisa's whole gimmick is she's an ordinary human who works hard. The jinyou are a special case.

>It is an unstable land with a harsh and unearthly nature that makes it difficult to survive in,[5] but youkai and some humans live and/or train their powers here regardless.[5] It is filled with a toxic miasma that's physically harmful that makes it impossible to get to Makai, but it strengthens magical spells and seals, and it can also make learning magic easier for a human.[6][7]

It's a stretch to say that Marisa was born there, even if you allow for PC-98 canon.

Though a really interesting question: where in the hell, and what in the hell, is Reimaden?

>> No.15632883

Gensokyo has a clearly fragile balance and ecosystem and its rules exist to keep the illusion in check.
1 Human becoming a youkai is like a butterfly effect. I mean seriously, how many factions and forces are there monitoring the villagers at that?

Patchouli wasn't born human so she's pretty much safe, though Alice was.
But Alice's canon history is rather shaky and not fully known to begin with, she could actually be from makai or not, whatever.
If she was a human from Makai, she could have just become a Magician, moved to Gensokyo and settled down no sweat, if not well...
At the same time, we don't even know how long she's lived, for one. She could have become a Magician and lived long before the establishing of the Hakurei Barrier (which was only a hundred-something years ago) and the rules that followed for Gensokyo.

I mean, Byakuren is also a human-turned- Magician long before Gensokyo's establishing, Ichirin is also some sort of "Pseudo-Magician-Unknown-Being" that used to be human, but they aren't being executed either, likely because they became youkai before these rules were created and enforced.
So I think it's safe to assume Alice is the same, or maybe just Magicians are a loophole to the butterfly effect, but if that's true the Jinyou could've just become one instead of going full retard, right?

Either way, clearly her case is different from the Jinyou.

Oh wait, that's not canon anymore.

But, that Reimu herself is "youkai-like" is mostly from the fact she was...well, she was /raised/ by a youkai, and most of her interactions with humans are negative ones. She uses the term "exterminate" to roughly mean KO, whether she's talking to youkai, spirits, fairies, or fellow humans.

Marisa is freakishly strong for her age, but kleptomaniac tendencies aside, she's firmly a human.

Hey, guys. I'm the real Fortune Teller here. Let me tell you my story.

I used to be a human living in the Human Village (what kind of name is that anyway?). Then, one day I managed to catch a glimpse of the Outside World, which made me crave power and freedom from the youkai's yoke.

So what I did, was instead of using one of the many perfectly acceptable ways for humans to gain power (such as hermitage, devoting myself to one of Gensokyo's myriad of gods, or even researching magic baubles), I took the single one way out that was actually forbidden and turned myself into a fucking youkai using negative emotions.

Now, at the moment of my resurrection I caused a huge ruckus in the village, attracting the attention of the person who enforces rules in Gensokyo, and potentially harming one of her friends. Then, after drawing her out of the humans' earshot, instead of running for the hills as would have been reasonable, I stopped and explained to the one enforcer of Gensokyo how and where exactly I broke her rules. Then I presumed to know her inner workings despite never knowing her personally. THEN I insulted her to her face.

But SURELY I am innocent, right? It's the human-hating Hakurei who's at fault! I mean, she killed me - a human! Er, a youkai! But still a human, right?

The sentence was death.

The crimes of most of the others can be excused, because it's their nature.
If Reimu were to execute youkai for being youkai it would make gensokyo pointless and she'd would just reenact OPERATION MAKAI FREEDOM in Gensokyo.

You're really letting that retardation run away with you. We know that there are two types of magicians in Touhou: ones born into the properties, and ones trained up from regular human status. Patchouli, however, as her profile states, is the genuine article, 本物の魔女. She's not a transformed human (as Alice is, or Marisa may become). She's a real magician. 本物の魔女.

I can't put this any clearer.

Do you really not see the problem with your argument?
You are calling someone a secondary, but your reason for doing so is not mentioned anywhere in the games.

To further reinforce this point:
In PMiSS Patchouli is called a born magician, (i.e. 生粋の魔法使), not a genuine witch (本物の魔女) like in EoSD. These two are obviously not the same thing.
