What do you expect? He's a forgettable amateur who suddenly found himself in the position of having to draw at pro levels thanks to his friend's writing skills.
I respect Nasu for keeping him (Tsukihimes old times' sake, just the two of them etc) and not telling him to GTFO and hiring another artist. Really, 80% of Fate's designs popularity is due to the colorist, the one who started working with them since Kagetsu Tohya. His shading is the shit.

True, but another thing: While Takeuchi is technically not among the best, he is one thing that is sorely lacking in today's anime art: Distinctive. And before you say "lol it's generic too", you can always spot a Takeuchi design from miles away, so it can't be generic whatever you say. I'd take him over "skilled" generic anime artists #38764823 any day (Leaf, Navel and âge, I am looking at you here).
