And shit or not, I'm still going to crawl along, no matter how long it ends up taking, because it's still my favourite eroge (until eden comes out in 2011-2012, ha)

Personally, I didn't think the twist, even if it was lame, at all hurt the story. Heck, my favourite parts of the game were chapter 3 and the parts of chapter 5 after the twist was revealed. I loved the backstory, the way it was revealed, and that was always more interesting to me than who Maou was. My bullshit indicators went off the moment Gonzou outright told Haru - it didn't feel correct at all.

So yeah, in the end I did like this game more than Sharin, but only by a fraction of a percent - apart from slice-of-life, Looseboy can do just about every aspect of a VN story perfectly. G-Senjou improved on Sharin in the slice-of-life area, admittedly by having almost none of it. (Looseboy probably knows that it's his main weakness as a scenario writer - he needs to get the Triangle Heart and Carnival writers to give him some tips)

The story was heading in an awesome direction, and it got switched into an entirely different direction with a lame twist. The build-up for the big reveal and for all the potential character interactions, all of potential for great some great scenes were thrown out. All of the powerfully evocative imagery of Kyouske's past got thrown out in favour of a few screens of text. It was an attrocious plot development.

How it should have went is how it was going...a feature of Looseboy scenarios is that a powerful male lead is powerful, but emotionally or spirtually weak and finds himself thrust amongst powerless but emotionally strong girls. The strength of the girls' hearts touches the male lead and thereby slowly changes him.

1. A-profile: guy is a depressed defeatist, convinced he can't go against fate. Girls never give up on him no matter what, guy responds, shapes up to protect girls.

2. Sharin no Kuni: Guy is obsessed with power, meets girls who are all doomed to die or waste away under the justice system and is touched by their spirit and goodness. He realizes he is serving a depraved, evil system and finds the emotional strength to break through his programming.

3. G-Senjou: guy thinks the world is shit and so decides to become the king-shit. He meets girls who somehow manage to exceed his worst expectations of humanity, and his black heart is purified.

Now, which one of those three scenarios doesn't match what really happened? And now we see why the twist was crap.

If it weren't for Haru, he would have probably joined up with his brother. The whole reason why you think Kyousuke is Maou is because they're both so alike, both before and after the twist. The difference is that Kyousuke takes a different path.
