Any character with a non-trivial presence in the series is going to attract secondaries and waifufags. How bad the fanbase is can be determined mostly by the size of the fanbase so it's not really a matter of the character necessarily.

The only fanbases that are truly awful are the ones based around characters that don't really deserve to have fans at all e.g. Cirno, Chen, Rumia, etc.

kek, I never heard this before. They also should say "irreligious" instead of "atheist".

ZUN should really explore Byakuren and/or the Myouren group more though. I feel like her characterization globally has been pretty weak outside of UFO. Maybe it's because she's so closely tied to her religion ans ZUN doesn't want to talk too much about the subject, but it doesn't help that in works like Oriental Sacred Palace and Symposium (IIRC), the "problems" of Buddhism they discuss are literally entry tier (the extinguishing of desires thing for example) and don't go beyond re-stating popular confusion, making it seem as if the tradition itself hasn't actually clearly dealt with those issues in the very earliest teachings.

To be honest I like sadistic Yuuka, but not as in torture maniac Yuuka. It's rather her having a somewhat discernible evil aura, but otherwise being just a possibly dangerous cute gril. With Flündré it's pretty much incomprehensible, she's just a very powerful kid who's been literally kept in the dark and so doesn't have a 100% lucid view of her powers. The main problem is the serious-non serious balance with regards to the setting. On one hand you generally have silly stories in the games as well as pretty silly interactions between the characters, then on the other hand you have dark or 2serious elements like eating people, "cosmic" scale powers, dark conspiracies, *psssshhhhh nothing personnel....... kid....* Reimu, "i am canonically unstoppable lmao" Reimu, etc. The more you drift away from a nearly perfect balance of powers, the more power level faggotry you get.
