What's to be done about all these annoying "Super fast, then super slow" songs? Shit like Paranoia Hades.

Conventional rhythm game wisdom would suggest you either have to memorize the fast part or memorize the slow part. The latter being much shorter in this instance. Even at my reading limit of Hi-speed 210, that shit still looks like a jumbled mess.

These songs piss me off, goddamn gimmicky shit.

So I'm trying to alter my play technique a wee bit. Basically going from what I've been doing to the "Standard IIDX playstyle" The Thumb, Middle, Index, Index, Thumb, Middle, Pinky.

It has a name but I forgot it.

This shit is god damn frustrating. I could clear most 10s before and I immediately step down to struggling on 5s. Worked my way up to shit clearing a few 8s, but it seems like the one weakness my old style had is even worse with this one. My stupid, kludgy left thumb is simply a piece of shit.

Should I keep going or just give up?

Every recent CS release had 80-90 songs total (Empress premium CS version had almost 200 songs), Infinitas so far has 43 songs, most of them from Sirius (only half of the Sirius songs are actually present). When compared to AC releases 974 songs are present in AC Copula and AC Sirius had 585 songs.

So much for variety if you want to spend 15 dollars per month with current amount of content and lack of support of dedicated controllers.

your muscle memory and reading will be only used to using four fingers which is what you should never do

you're not going to use your left and right index/middle to hit the white keys and move them up to hit the black keys when using a controller

your right hand will only be slightly different swapping 4/5 which you can easily get used to which is why (space jkl) can be good

your scratch hand depends entirely on the playstyle you pick up some pick it up faster than others

any kb lr2 player who can play lr2 at a competent level usually get their level cut in half (so insane kaiden -> insane 6th, or insane 6th -> insane shodan) but they easily jump to 10th dan within a few weeks of playing on a controller coming from kb

This is so not true at all, just ask any player who has tried switching sides after getting used to the other one. Stepmania doesn't really compare as it's only four buttons

Also even if your hands will figure things out on their own, you really should start with a somewhat "proper" style if you want to avoid hitting a unbreakable wall when you get up to 10-11 and having to go back and re-learn a new style.

Use settings that feel good to you, there's no right or wrong. As you start progressing to harder songs you'll notice when you need to adjust. Just don't be afraid of playing around with different settings (same goes for playstyles).

Hi speed has two purposes - to speed up the notes and spread them apart, and to have fewer notes visible at once so it's easier to read what's immediately coming up. The issue is that hi speed alone doesn't let you edit these independently, only together, so the lane cover is the solution. If seeing very few notes at once is easier to read for you, that's going to be ridiculously fast and fill a lot of vertical space to easily see so you use the lane cover to squish it down.

There's also the issue of ghosting as others mentioned, which is when the notes are moving fast enough to see the individual frames and each note appears as two stacked on top of each other

Google for 'mouse pollrate' or 'mouse overclocking'. Exact same instructions apply for both mouse overclocking and controller overclocking, and they are different based on what OS you are running.

As for the risks, I think all this fear of damaging your hardware is bullshit. Some of the hardware may just not be capable of reporting as frequently as you want them to, so you'll just hit a report rate ceiling at some point.

Also the benefits of increasing pollrate may be smaller than you think. A device running at 250hz (DAO/KOC) only reports every 4ms, whereas 1000hz (arcin) device reports every 1ms. This means you are reducing the variability (or inconsistency) of the input by 3 milliseconds. The numbers involved are so low no human can make out the difference between those two, and it's placebo effect if somebody claims otherwise.

I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just reminding how minuscule changes the overclocking actually provides for users. If your device can handle 1000hz, then do it, there are no known cases out there where mice or any other hardware has broken by this.

I added those because those were the only three sixteenth notes in the whole song and it felt like a shame to leave them out, plus I have trouble with vibrating where I just shake my finger over the key instead of pressing it, plus, surprises help me keep focus, but I understand your point.

This song is a lot easier than the first one since I was just starting to get back into the game when I made it. The layering in this has two tempos in it at the same time during vocal sections and I'm not sure if they're problematic or not. I picked both of these songs because I liked them, so I didn't have that many layers to work with, and I hate leaving vocals out of vocal tracks in general, even if it means the song takes some getting used to, but I don't know if it's a good thing to do in the end. There are days when I nail playing both tempos at the same time and it feels really rewarding, but there are times when I can't pick up on it and just end up 'manually' hitting them. I also added some fast time signature changes in the second half of the song and I want to know if they screw up MA to the point where they're a chore to do, since I'm at a skill level where I don't really mind greats, as long as I hit the notes.

the jacks during holds near the end caught me off guard. overall, i think this one is higher quality than the 2nd in terms of consistency, layering scheme, etc. the only real issue i noticed is that you were somewhat inconsistent with your jack usage. in one measure, a certain sound would be represented with a minijack, and then in the next measure it would just be normal smooth 16th patterns.

i'm actually not quite sure what you're referring to when you're talking about the layering having two different tempos or the time signature changes. if you could point to a time in the file in particular, that'd be cool. for what it's worth, i don't use xmods (i use cmod) so any bpm changes wouldn't be noticed by me. if you're just talking about the alternating 16th/24th stuff, that was perfectly fine and fun to play.

also i dunno if you're interested, but i could give you my skype or something if you'd want additional/more detailed feedback on stuff in the future. i don't mind playtesting files.

Yeah, I was referring the 16th/24ths. By different tempos, I mean the way doubles sneak into the streams in a seemingly uneven way, since I used them to mark vocals. Again, I slipped in things like minijacks in unexpected places to train for unexpected bursts, to get used to not panicking when style changes happen in other songs, particularly jacks because I can't control my speed and rhythm well at all. I didn't really have someone else ever playing these files in mind, so they cater to what I, specifically, need to improve on, though I do understand that someone at a higher level might find their presence puzzling. And yeah, sure man, it'd be nice to get some criticism and pointers for when I make more shit, since I don't really have any friends that play at my level or at all, let alone above.

IIDX isn't a straight line layout for your hands so it'll take a bit of muscle memory

I also recommend Stella Sinistra and Praludium for gitting gud at scale patterns.
