I have extreme trouble sinking the BB hime (read: never sunk her in 5/5 encounters thus far)

Running 2 CL 1CA 1CV 2 BB + 1CL 2 CLT 1 CT (my Kiso's got the green tag) 2 DD.

CL, CLT and DD full ASW Set (except for Kuma, my flag, who runs FCF as well), BB with classic 2 Red + Plane + Radar for better Accuracy, the CA is Maya Kai ni for AA-Ci and the CV is Kaga with 3x Reppu and 1x my best blue plane.

What do I do wrong? I usually (the attached screenshot being the one-in-a-dozen-exception) make it to the boss node with all ships alive (max orange damage) and in Yasen my DD's simply don't hit her.

Should I drop the second sonar for a gun on all of them or am I just unlucky?

You're stacking CLTs at the bottom since Senkan/Wo will only attack in after your 4th girl. Your first 3 girls should be ASW in descending power, just incase the sub survives the daytime attacks. 3 CLTs should definitely kill off senkan, and Kiso usually does the job by herself, or at minimum puts her into red for Ooi to finish the job

I'm not in favor of cut-ins since I have a tendency to only use them for maps that absolutely require obscene firepower clears, such as double senkan maps or kitanda. Double attacks are safer and more reliable for maps like these which don't really require obscene firepower

Natural course of action would be making someone stronger than DDs hit her. BB Hime has 160 armor. Akatsuki, the fourth strongest destroyer, has base 150 power.
Please pay attention to stats of enemies and plan shelling order of your fleet accordingly.

There is no graphic or voice line change but me and all my friends noticed difference in damage dealt to SS Hime after debuffing and so did countless anons. I might have missed some posts but I believe there wasn't anyone who did the debuff and decided it didn't help.
Sure, you can clear without debuffing, just counting on crits and good armor rolls but doesn't affect what I said before in the slightest.

You don't get it at all. Yuudachi has base 166 power. I didn't say "use better DDs". I said "use someone stronger than DDs".

Put CLTs on bottom so that they can use their immense power by obliterating BB Hime, when they are no longer forced to shoot at SS Hime who should be dead before their turn. KTKM with midget alone has 214 power.

Prinz shouldn't even get her turn to shoot if your fleet is right so she's probably the best choice thanks to her survivability, even if her DA isn't the strongest.

Finally, Arashi after 43 runs, just as I was reading the chapter where Guts gets off the boat.

32 runs on easy since the red DD at J kept blowing someone up on normal.

The PT's weren't a problem thanks to aerial support CVL's filled to the brim with torpedo bombers taking out 2-4 of them at a time, with whatever sparkled DD idling around HQ as flagship. Everyone also seemed to get more accurate at shooting PT's as the runs accumulated.

You don't need to target the flagship, at least not in E5. You just need to kill the other ships to reduce the amount of hits the enemy can dish out. Usually my fleet only hit by 2~3 enemy fires in yasen with line ahead. That is pretty good consider the pre-boss yasen node the first few enemy ships are transport ships.

I think there was only one time when four enemies survived yasen battle over 70+ runs. Usually it's 0-2. Upgraded guns and two TCIs probably help in offsetting Echelon's lower accuracy. Getting to boss with whole fleet green is quite common, in six runs today I only caught one chuuha on the way.

Red planes should get an accuracy modifier or something to make them viable. Their actual stats are lower, so torpedo bombers do just as well when they get the low damage roll, and much better when they get the high one.

After a week of farming 2-2 and 2-3, I finally gathered what I thought to be a sizeable force, ready to fight the Abyssals at 2-4 and prevail.

My lineup consisted of Kongo, Kirishima, Fusou, Yamashiro, Akagi and Kaga, all the BBs being at Kai level.

The first engagements went really well, with S or even Super-S results : I used diamond formation to preserve my forces for the final clash, and reached boss node with all ships in the green, except Yamashiro, in the yellow.

I then thought that, to use the full power of my battleships, it was time to use line formation. In front of me were four BBs (one yellow, two reds, one grey) and two red destroyers.

It was a slaughter. The torpedo attack didn't kill anything. My shells barely scratched them, while they ripped through my fleet. The dive bombers didn't have much effect either. I tried fighting through the night, hoping for a miracle, but as a great lawyer once said, the miracle never happen.

In the end, their destroyers sank, but all of their battleships were still standing, while my fleet had two ships in the red, four in the orange, resulting in a D-rank defeat.

What went wrong ? Should I have kept diamond formation to protect me from their hellish firepower ? Was it simply bad luck ?

Just use drum instead of aux eq and second Zuiun on each ship. I don't know who exactly you meet on easy and medium but starshell is worth bringing if there are many cut-in ships. Akizuki is a lost cause, the chance of getting her with your resources is practically as low as your bucket count. Honestly I'd just call it quits, E4 clear rewards aren't worth it, can't farm Graf/Prinz because no buckets, and E5 is a bucket intensive map and the reward is just a trophy DD.

Rewards are pretty meager for you at this point, either way you cut it. There's not much point in completing E-4 or E-5, that's for sure. I'd recommend you farm for ships you missed in past events, E-1 through 3 depending on how much you like them, as they're all pretty useless outside Akizuki. Not going to bother clearing the event, after hearing what some guys above had to say. As for preparation, I started playing again on Monday and started going ham on LSC. Got Taihou and Shioi. Levelled them to Kai plus Sendai to K2. Then I remembered to check the wiki and saw there was an event.

I should have really checked the wiki before LSC but it doesn't matter now. I'm not interested in trophy DDs unless they have valuable or game-changing equipment, like Akizuki.

By the way, how useful is AACl? Is it worth the hassle to farm Akizuki? I wasn't playing at the time of the update so I understand little, even after having read the wiki page.

Replace that radar with another gun for Choukai. You're not going to do any night battle. On the long term it's better to use one armored carrier so you can run it until it gets few HP away from taiha. Using Tone will also be cheaper on the long run since like armored carrier it's safe to keep taking scratch damage run until few HP from taiha. Ooyodo's damage is piss poor so you might as well run 3~4 drums while still taking out weaker enemies

1 extra gun will make big difference. If you want more double attack chance then use 2 recons since they give more LOS than radar with chevrons. Also if you have Shiun use them instead of obs planes, especially on BB if the BB is not flag. Also you don't need to worry about fit guns for 5-4 so just use 41cm, pasta or higher if you have them upgraded. Kirishima should be fine with her FP but you'll want to go over the doukousen cap since there's a chance you might not finish off a BB or CV if you roll hankousen.

I run a slightly heavier comp and I compensate it by sinking BBs at 5-5. The only resource you should really be worrying is buckets

The only real "sticking point" is 2-4. All the others are just harder than normal levels. The only reason 2-4 itself is a sticking point, is because when you get there you probably don't have high level ships and you almost certainly don't have buckets to spare.
