MoF and SA are really not gimmicky. I agree it starts to get weird after UFO.

Also the gimmicks started with Youmu with her slow-time and Reisen with the lunatic bullets so gimmicks were already there smh tbh fam m8

EoSD is like the only one without a gimmick. 7 had the cherry blossoms, 9 has so many gimmicky spell cards also that stuff with time points.

I hate SA and MoF but UFO is fun. I haven't really played post UFO games much though but I like the ideas of DDC. TD is kinda offputting because it's like UFO collecting but worse.

I like the picture taking and Cirno games the best.

I finished it on hard and don't feel like replaying it any more.

I had a shitload of fun with 6 and 7. I'll never argue against their quality. 8 I enjoyed initially, but as I got better at the games it became frustratingly memorization-based...which is why 9 blew my mind. Against a computer, sure, lame as fuck, but I had the good fortune to have a friend that was actually only a bit better than me (and I'm pretty fuckin' good). We played all the time, and although he would win pretty often, it was never a beatdown.

MoF is where I started to feel the love fade. It was fun and all, but it just lacked....something. SA rocked my fucking world and really brought me back into it, but then UFO had baaaasically no redeeming qualities (aside from Kogasa, who is mai waifu).

Couldn't even make myself finish the TD demo. Haven't really tried anything since.

As for the photo/fighting/cirno games, they were unique enough to just be what they were on their own. Approaching them as touhou games put me off immediately, but revisiting them with a clean perspective got me deep into just about all of them.

In conclusion touhou is pretty cool
