One thing I can't stand with light novels are main characters who hide their powers and level. Why are fantasy light novels such shit? It's just so boring I have to sit through reading boring ass non existent plot of nothing happening in between each battle and shitty boring dialogue. Then the actual battles are all lack luster and all the characters are are just so uninteresting. What is with japan and hidden power levels and powers? What is the point in being so goddamn overpowered if you never use it? I just want to read a decent battle novel with balanced powers, interesting characters, some nice plot, and nice setting. I was thinking about doing a huge editing/embellishment pass on Mushoku Tensei to try to make it more readable, or the same thing with the earlier chapters of Overlord.

It would just be taking what they wrote and putting it in better/more logical prose, but I don't know if people see value in that activity or if it would just be me making stuff up rather than editing. Opinions can be intense.

But every time I see "this fellow" used every single paragraph in a translation, it makes me want to scream and to change it so that future readers do not get really bad sentences that make little sense in English or use Chinese idioms in place of English ones.

I lost interest in Mushoku Tensei when it went too far into wish fulfillment and the plot became a complete mess filled with ripoffs from whatever popular series the author wanted to plagiarize at the time.

Overpowered as hell MC that gets thousands of followers who follow him unquestioningly and are overpowered themselves. The "bad guys" only exist to get overwhelmingly crushed by the MC. All characters are simple and uninteresting and the only thing the setting has going for it is that it takes place on the "monster" side of things but is otherwise bland and uninspired. Things got interesting when some of his followers got killed but of course, he was able to bring the back to life, and they were even more overpowered than before.

It starts becoming like... okay, he gets 3 wives and there's chapter after chapter on it. He starts ripping off Steins;Gate. It even becomes Mecha for a bit. Like, the series gets really really bad around volume 12, and has moments of huge badness before then. I liked it early, but it starts to get really cringe-y.

He writes in a way that makes it almost painful to read. Maybe it translates better in Manga and I hope so, but I can tell you that the LN had me cringing and I had to drop it, after investing a lot of time into it. It became unbearable.

I still want some feedback to my question, if anyone can give it.
