Does /jp/ like doujin fighters?

I like them, but sometimes they're pretty bland; also, I am bad.

Not really, but it's fun to watch videos of stupid Mugen characters.

I don't really like VanPri. If I want to play an all girl fighter, I'll play Arcana Heart. I liked Magical Battle Arena a lot though, but >>13888678

Vanguard prncess is a good fighting game but I can barely keep track of what is happening because the screen is too busy with the strikers being on the same lane at all times.
The touhou fighters have very nice different aproaches on the genre and melty blood is a very good game and has a nice vn+fg storymode in earlier versions.
BTW fuck sony for forcing french bread to sign a contract to keep uniel forever on ps3 locked for home systems. Hope unielst can be on pc where doujin fighters belong and have more lifetime.

You think they're less legit than other doujin games?

>> No.13899879

Vanguard Princess was actually a pretty solid fighter despite being a doujin game. Too bad the lack of netplay and art style turned everyone away from it.
The 2hu fighters are shit mechanic-wise and rely too much on gimmicks, but they can be fun to play with others.

My lack of knowledge is why I bumped the thread! Melty Blood is in my top 3 traditional fighters ever though, so we can talk about that if you want. Don't know about other Touhou shit, but I can't stand SWR, even though it has some killer animations.

Ooh, this looks cool! I'll have to give it a shot, yo. That "child" system reminds me of stands in the old arcade JoJo game, which is a system that I loved, so you've caught my eye. As for the terminal "dead game" syndrome, I've played so many dead games before that I'm downright desensitized.

>>13908742
DoA and SC aren't popular , my dude. The main reason why they're comparably more popular than so many other more niche fighting games is because they both had so much corporate weight behind them.

>besides, SF and MvC characters are full of cute fetish girls.
Yeah, but you look at a game like Melty Blood or Arcana Hearts and it's ALL adorable anime girls. SF and MvC are both headed by Ryu and fucking Haggar and Spider-Man, nobody that wouldn't love the character designs in anime fighters anyways is picking up Marvel and selecting Tron.

>a lot of the girls in Vanguard are younger looking

No they aren't. The only young looking ones are the assistants. DOA and SC feature young teen girls, SC in particular having actual flat chest looking characters. DOA's characters are that other kind of anime 14 that Asuka and Yoko are on instead of Dekomori type 14 but some of them are still technically young.

For that matter, what's stopping it from being popular in Japan/outside NA? It's a game anyone in the world can play after all.

>>13908791
They're still at least with in the second tier of popularity. Even excluding bottom tier western games and those games series which get absolutely ignored anyway, there's still SNK games and Tekken/VF type games.

It's like you either have to be SF or have T&A to be popular. VanPri has T&A so I don't really get why it kinda sunk into obscurity. Maybe lack of sequels. In general though, fighting gamers just don't want to play anything but SF. Even with guys in it, it's not like SF is not an anime game or no one likes the girls.

>It's like you either have to be SF or have T&A to be popular. VanPri has T&A so I don't really get why it kinda sunk into obscurity.
Nah dude, people don't play VanPri because it's convoluted as fuck and has too many RPG elements(?). I'll reiterate that it also never had the corporate backing that a game like SF, DoA, or even VF had, which is a key factor in its lack of popularity.

>In general though, fighting gamers just don't want to play anything but SF.
What about the wild popularity of games like Melee, Xrd, Persona, and Mortal Kombat X? I can't deny that Capcom has the most weight (because of the corporate backing that VanPri doesn't have) but fighting gamers aren't even really that hung up on Capcom anymore, let alone just SF.

>it's not like SF is not an anime game
You're obviously not a fighting game guy, so I'll politely clear up for you that SF is absolutely NOT an anime fighter. "Anime fighters" actually describes a style of traditional fighter, not an art-style, and I would even go as far as to say that Melee is closer to anime fighters than any iteration of SF.
>No they aren't. The only young looking ones are the assistants. DOA and SC feature young teen girls, SC in particular having actual flat chest looking characters. Yes, but DoA and SC both have corporate backing and see full arcade and console releases.

>For that matter, what's stopping it from being popular in Japan/outside NA? It's a game anyone in the world can play after all.
Vampire Princess, or anime fighters in general? My theory with anime is that it's mostly arcade culture (when you have a local squad of JPN homies to spar with you can much more easily be like "let's try this new VanPri game!") mixed with the fact that the games are just designed by japanese dudes for the japanese demographic.

When you say "anime" fighter are you referring to a game with heavy focus on combos and access to airdashes among other traits? VanPri feels more like a SF game than say GG.

Anyone who isn't me play the Umineko fighting game?

Every time I play something else I just get disappointed and go back to it.

99% cleared it but I am never going to beat Black Battler. Tried to get some friends into it so I could play versus by offering them 50 bucks if they could beat him but they never got past installing the game.

>> No.13912864

Yeah, I guess I had something of a misconception about what an anime fighter really is. In my head, combos and airdashes are a factor, but I really had it defined more like "a 2d fighter with more-than-average systems." In my head, stuff like long combos, airdashes, air superiority and a unique cast of anime females only added to the degree of "anime-ness" that a fighter would have. Having thought about it more, my definition was kind of silly, since it includes Vanguard Princess and Killer Instinct, two games with a bunch of unique systems and characters that are definitely more like Street Fighter in flow.

tl;dr: you right.

Everyone should know by now the term anime fighter is awful and nobody even knows the definition of it. People say AquaPazza is an anime fighting game when it's closer to SFII than GGXX. There are characters in SFIV that have more movement and combo options than the one character with an airdash in that game.
