Go to any Akihabara shops and idols dvds are usually sold in the same building as anime, manga and eroge.

It's a lucrative half billion $ industry (not counting AKBs)

Objectively, there's too many positives than negatives.

It provides customers (mostly overworked salaryman) the 'muh healing time' and to decompress.

For the idols, it's a way for them to earn pocket money while still in school to buy latest fashion & gadget wares that their parents can't afford.

It's a win-win for both sides (customer-performer) in this exchange.
