I didn't draw seriously, but I don't think I've improved at digital art at all either way. Because I don't practice.Traditional art I'm fine with, I guess I'm too frustrated with the digital medium because I don't get the same results as I do with traditional.

You'll notice a whole lot of things, like eyes being much smaller, greater graduation in skin color due to curvature, skin tone being completely different, hair being less vibrant, proportions being different. That doesn't mean they're all changes that all artists should make.

The pinnacle of stylized art is not photorealism.

Here's some good advice for everyone else who might post in the thread: stop saying you're shit or/and quit pointing out the flaws in your own work.

Out of several reasons why, you'll stop demoralizing yourself, it keeps your work impartial and easy to analyze, and if this were a professional occasion, your work might've been overlooked because of your attitude.

Don't do it. You deserve better from yourself! Stop pointing out your flaws and start being happier.

You need to point out flaws that present goals to work on. Saying ``I'm shit'' is just a way of justifying your quality. It's like saying it's not really your fault, you're just born this way and can't do anything about it. Instead, focus on the things you did wrong that you can fix and then devote yourself to improving those.

>> No.13780033

>>13779998
Pointing out your own flaws is not the only, nor is it the most efficient way to improve. We are quite biased towards, and in this situation, against ourselves.

Often, you can get a more concise, truer opinion about your own work from an impartial third party. Hey, I'm not saying it's not okay to ever self-criticize, as long as you keep it in check. To me though, when you start saying you're shit in every single post you have your art in, that is a) going overboard and b) counter-productive to what you're doing in the first place.

Each to his own, you know? But hey, I think you'd do much better, in this situation, if you posted your art, posted the date you made it, and then let people comment on it. You don't have to call yourself crap! Calling yourself crap is a crap way to do this to begin with.

Identifying what I liked style-wise, viewing it a ton, and copying sections of figures that I liked helped me. At least a little bit of figure drawing will help you in coming up with your own poses too, but I still use photos to help me navigate angles occasionally.

If you want to improve, practice is really the only way though. Don't be afraid to trace and copy things that you like (for study only) AFTER you get a decent grasp of human figure. And if you're drawing just for fun, remember to keep it fun (even while practicing! Don't be too hard on yourself). I burnt myself out a few years ago, and it's what's kept me from drawing seriously or regularly ever since.

While it gives the impression that I've improved over 5yrs, it was really more like 3yrs + stagnating for 2yrs.
