So I'm visiting some friends in japan next month. They want to go camping for one of the weekends. I got all excited until I saw THIS!!!
I shat fucking pyramid bricks.
How rare are they? I heard that they a kinda common in the area around Tokyo (where I will be).
I dont want to die.

During the months these things are active they kill at least one person every day, so if you're worried already it would be better not to go on this camping trip.

Wow, you're right..

"As the hornet enters the nest, a large mob of about five hundred honey bees surrounds it, completely covering it and preventing it from moving, and begin quickly vibrating their flight muscles. This has the effect of raising the temperature of the honey bee mass to 47 °C (117 °F). The honey bees can just about tolerate this temperature, but the hornet cannot survive more than 45 °C (113 °F), so it dies. Often several bees perish along with the intruder, but the death of the hornet scout prevents it from summoning reinforcements which would wipe out the colony."

Get this jab, just in case. You may well have to call around for it, but do it anyhow.

I had it done before moving out there way up north as I knew we would be paying visits to my in-laws farm and surrounding areas in the extreme northern countryside of Hokkaido.

As I know of someone who did not have the jab, and contracted this, who got majorly screwed by it, I strongly suggest getting the jab.

Course, you won't bother, that's your call, not that I give a fuck ; )

You'll never get stung by a cicada killer unless you accidentally put your hand on one or something. Most overrated wasp ever.

Hornets, on the other hand, are fucking vicious. And V.mandarinia are not only the largest hornets in the world, but the most aggressive AND apparently have the most potent venom.

I think you missed the point. Cicada Killers aren't aggressive and, even if you manage to provoke one, their sting barely hurts. Giant Hornets will at the very least leave you in a world of pain and attack you for sitting within ten feet of an empty soda bottle.
