Saw figures for sale at a book store. Is otaku culture finally mainstream and accepted in mainstream America?

Who cares about the mainstream?

>> No.13365526

Most anime thats dubbed or has a sub done by CR, Funi, or Aniplex is socially acceptable now among normies over the age of highschool.

Manga is the new anime partially thanks to it's dying popularity in the west and because it gets lumped together with doujinshi. People now think that manga is all crazy tentacle rape and robots.

>>13365465
More like book stores are trying desperately to stay top side and weebs are some of the only people who still buy books in shops

>> No.13365702

you're late. they're not even real scale figures, but instead those dumb action figure things like figma. hope BN dies. fuck anyone dumb enough to buy that shit.

>> No.13365754

>>13365702
Yeah, anyone who buys anime merchandise that isn't perfectly to scale and indistinguishable from humans is an idiot.

Who the fuck buys action figures at BN, I only go there for books and cheap Gunpla

Word. You're not an otaku if these things phase you.

Just dive deeper and ignore the rest.

BN is fucking themselves.

Nook sales were slipping so they said hmm..Amazon has more DRM, more invasiveness, more user unfriendliness and more locking down than our devices and apps.

LET'S LOCK OUR STUFF DOWN MORE AND ADD MORE DRM GARBAGE THAN AMAZON HAS AND WE WILL SELL MORE STUFF!

So yeah they fucked themselves. The whole appeal of nook was being less invasive and less drm and locking down.

Also anime has always been mainstream in the US. It was brought over as Saturday morning cartoons (Star Blazers, Battle of the Planets, Harlock mishmashes, Starzinger for chicks etc) that all the kids watched back then. And of course later Robotech (Macross etc) which kicked the door open.

Was thinking more about the inflated price and shitty, niwaka-bait selection fit more for people looking for a "geeky" gift because they don't know anything about otaku media and figure collection, but sure let's go with that.

I take it you're salty cause you collect shit like figma? Or...did you actually buy something from BN? Gosh.

>>13369901
That's good. No one buys books in bookstores anymore (used/specialized bookstores notwithstanding). Nook is a huge fuck along with all those "readers." Fukkem. I do miss Borders, though.

I got a lot of good shit when borders sold off everything dirt cheap.

Same here. I really loved that place. Just a quiet place to read. Decent prices and steady coupons too. And they never got into that damn reader nonsense.

Where did you find them? In my local mall there is a store just full of otaku and weaboo stuff. In fact thats its only products.

Shall I make a youtube channel? Shall I upload a video of the store? I'm leaving the U.S.A within a year for Japan, so these things will become common place for me soon.

Sometimes I see barnes and noble or Shuller books selling some otaku stuff, but thats ussully only in tje begining of the year when all the new manga flood in.

Hell no. You're still considered a pedophile in the South if you like anime.

Now I will say that my local B&N does have gunpla, but that and the manga section is the largest extent of weeb-market catering the store does.

And that's a good thing. Remember what happened to gaming when it got popular.
