Let's solve this puzzle once and for all /jp/!

What is the real connection between Maribel and Yukari!?

http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Perfect_Memento_in_Strict_Sense/Memorandum

Based on this memorandum and the side stories of the Hifuu club, I have gathered some points:

- Marry is actually a foreigner, and her name and Yuraki name is a reference to Lafcadio Hearn (whose japanese name is Koizumi Yakumo).

- Marry can astral project herself into different places and time (seeing how she can travel to current Gensokyo which is around our modern era, not her future).

I theorize that grown-up Marry with full control of her border power travels to the past, changes her name into Yukari then helps create Gensokyo based on the visions she got from her dreams.

>> No.13209784

It's simple. Mary is the bastard child of Yukari. She was born as a result of the frequent and excessive sexcapades that Yukari goes out on every night.

After Maribel was born, Yukari dropped her in the outside world in the care of a human family that decended from Lafcadio Hearn. Now that Mary has grown up, she will inevitably find Yukari and join her in fucking various males/sinsacks from multiple dimensions.

>> No.13209886

It's simple enough.

Mary is schizophrenic.

She gets confused about what's real and what's not. At times, she falls into a delusion that she's in a strange, mystical world of apparitions and mythological beings. The experiences are really vivid to her and she recounts them to her best friend, Renko.

Renko, on the other hand, has no clue about Mary's condition and just accepts her friend's claims. Even though there's no proof to back them up. She even starts to question Mary in Changeability of Strange Dream and concludes "[Gensokyo] is Mary's dream world".

So there you have it. Yukari is a fragmented portion of Mary's delusional psyche. She's who Mary becomes when the boundary between reality and delusion is shattered in her head: one of the most powerful and capable inhabitants in her dream world.

Maybe Ran is a reflection of Renko, for that matter.

Maribel is the dreamer who maintains the existence of Gensoukyou.

Inside her dream, Yukari is the one who maintains the existence of Maribel's world.

It's ZUN's version of the Roman pax deorum, where our belief in the gods maintains their belief in us.

It's a bit of a fantasy cliche, actually.
I have no idea why it's considered so much of a mystery.
All that stuff in the Ghostly Field Club albums points towards Maribel being the one who is creating Gensoukoyou.

So you are supporting a theory like mine, which is time travel.

But if that's true, then there's no need for either sides to maintain shit, since Gensokyo would always exist via a paradox Maribel creates Gensokyo which creates Maribel's future world sort of thing.

"real world" exists as normal, gensokyo as we know it exists as an idealised version of marry's "nightmares" because she travelled into the past and became yukari who manipulated gensokyo into the current state

Gensokyo is not in our modern era. Yukari has said in the manga that there is no more snow in the outside world. this means the environment has been destroyed by pollution in the near future, which explains why they are trying to grow plants in space stations.

>> No.13213305

>>13212939
Do you have a source for this? I'm basically certain you've misunderstood. "No more snow" could mean many things, including "Winter ended", and picking out that it means the environment is gone and therefore future is a poor assumption. In any case, you seem to be ignoring the plethora of evidence that Gensokyo's time follows more or less exactly ours, and hanging onto one flimsy thread. For one, modern stuff is often referred to appropriately, including iPods, computers, the internet, the GB and the DS, cell phones, remote controls, the status of radio towers, the "power spot" craze in Japan, and so on. Historical events are also referred to precisely.

Maribel's time, however, is very blatantly set in the future and is explicit about the various changes to the environment in the future.
