Dominions is the kind of game that's easy to play but hard to master, mainly due to the AI being unable to be a satisfying opponent. It's nothing but a punching bag, with no diplomacy, no global tactic, and it will never exploit spells in a smart way.

Dwarf Fortress' biggest problem is the UI. Once you get used to it, it's okay.

13173189

>>13173121
No, it's not that complex. There aren't as many ressources as Age of Empires or Distant Worlds. It doesn't have the complicated diplomacy system from the Paradox games. The only part really complex are the battle scripts.

>> No.13173215

>>13173189
>resources
What do you call a resource? Besides things like gold and gems, your units, especially mages, are something you need to manage pretty carefully as a resource.
>diplomacy systems
Beause it's a multiplayer game.
>The only part really complex are the battle scripts.
I dunno, the magic is pretty complex. And the units and unit stats. There's a pretty vast amount of variety in both of those areas. I would argue that tthe scripting system is one of the less complex parts of how battles work, really.

>> No.13173233

>>13173215
Except that you don't have any influence over the fights, except by writing the script.
As for the ressources, I'm talking about gold, gems and ressources. Mages are units. Builders aren't considered ressources, not even in Battle Realms, so I don't consider mages to be one.
>Beause it's a multiplayer game.
The Paradox games too. What's your point?

>> No.13173267

>>13173233
Mages are very versatile in role compared to basic units and your best ones are often restricted to your cap and are slow to recruit.

>> No.13173369

>Except that you don't have any influence over the fights, except by [determining what your forces will do during them]
How is this different from any other game?
>gold, gems and ressources
Ten is still not that few. Certainly more than Paradox offers; they give you gold, prestige, and piety, or ducats and three types of mana. I don't see how people aren't a resource considering you manage them like one, but you're free to have your own opinions.

>The Paradox games too
Not fucking really. They have multiplayer, yes, but it's in the same way that Dominions has single player. It's just sort of there, it's not the normal paradigm for gameplay and is pretty ancillary to normal play.

>> No.13173414

>>13173267
Depends from your researches. I mostly go for construction and conjuration, which makes my mages mostly harmless in direct fight.

>>13173369
>How is this different from any other game?
I take it that you never played a RTS. And don't put words I never said in my mouth, that's dishonest. If you strawman once more, I'll stop wasting my time with you.
>Ten is still not that few
So for you, "gold"+"gem"+"ressources"=10.
Interesting, I was aware people actually counted in base three. Because, yeah, you do know there's an alchemy system to convert gems, right? I hope I'm not teaching you anything here.
>Not fucking really. They have multiplayer, yes, but it's in the same way that Dominions has single player. It's just sort of there, it's not the normal paradigm for gameplay and is pretty ancillary to normal play.
Do you have a single fact to back that up? Or is it just some friendless fag's opinion who always play by himself instead of jolly cooperating to take down the Byzantine Empire? No need to answer, I have my idea.

I hope you're not that /domg/ faggot who ragequitted a MP game after sending all his gems to the enemy team.

>> No.13173454

>>13173414
I just don't think of mages in the same sense as generic units.
They research, site search, cast ritual and battle spells, build labs, and perform other miscellaneous duties. Mages have much more strategic value and later, tactical value than units.

>> No.13173464

>>13173454
I understand your point. I just don't consider them as ressources, because they can't be traded for units.
In fact, they even consume ressources for many of their spells.

By your logic, even commanders are ressources, since they're required to move armies and build fortresses.

>> No.13173516

>>13173464
In a fashion, yes. They are the only things that can move units around and build infrastructure.
However, I can't really say the same due to the fact they cannot tap into gem use but only gold use.

Alchemy is a very poor way of getting more gems and is usually done at a 4:1 ratio or 2:1 at best. Blood slaves are also completely separate.
Are you going to claim all resources in AoE are the same due to the trading market?
Many nations are also highly dependent on unit summons, like Agartha and Mictlan.

>> No.13175976

>>13175563
Oh right, I forgot about blood slaves. I never use them.
>Are you going to claim all resources in AoE are the same due to the trading market?
No, because you always use all the ressources in AoE. In Dominions, unless you got a rainbow pretender, you never use all of the gems.
>Many nations are also highly dependent on unit summons, like Agartha and Mictlan.
And? It's still not trade if you keep your wizard. At worst, it makes him a walking barrack, but it's not really a trade. Semantically speaking.

>> No.13176014

For those who don't understand what we're talking about : in the game Dominions, you have gold, which is used to hire (not train, hire) units, and build stuff, "ressource", which is used to equip units (it can be iron, leather, pretty much everything), and various kind of elementals gems that are used to fuel the wizards for the most advanced spells. And blood slaves, who are considered gems but are humans being (typically, virgin with a special blood, they're all strangely female). And of course, giving death gems to a fire mage is useless.

>> No.13176116

I think you're relating Dominions mechanics to some very specific implementations with specific names in some specific game(s) you're familiar with, instead of using the actual meanings of the words.

I like this one too, but it absolutely makes no sense to me. (with Misty Lake connected to Sanzu and Hakugyokurou being in that place.)

I really want to be part of a team creating a 3D version of Gensokyo where you can fly around freely and explore, even if it's just a small part of it. Doesn't even have to be an mmorpg, because honestly, that's way and way too ambitious. The closest thing created to this would be Touhou Koukishin probably, but that's mostly level-based and doesn't have that feeling of liberty. Eh, maybe it'll happen someday.

Suika Fortress developer here; back online after much turmoil, and now working on the game once again. Apologizes I don't have any interesting screenshots, but I'm still working on the graphics for all the new youkai I'm adding in as well as adding in spells.

The game is now mostly decoupled from Vanilla Dwarf Fortess; only the animal men races remain from all the base game civs, and they're looking to be displaced and/or supplemented by my own brand of underground creatures.

In other news, fairies have received several additional castes, including the tinkerer caste (self explanatory; they're good with machines), wind caste (originally merged with light until I figured out that that made no sense; specializes in ranged fighting; the only type of fighting fairies should really engage in), sound caste (a variation of the light caste, made because light fairies already had a monopoly on special abilities, with the ability to blind things, make themselves invisible, and shoot beams; their specialty is crafting), and the "empathy" caste (called heart fairies in-game: they specialize in animal care, and are the only fairies with a higher then 5% chance to know what romance is. If you can hook them up with a leprechaun- well, they're the only realistic way to populate a fort through linage) Right now, world history seems to think they're a continuously dying race, though this doesn't effect their ability to survive. I wonder if it has something to do with their low male ratio?

Kappa seem to be suffering from the fact that DF absolutely hates aquatic civs and seems to only place about two of them before buggering off and proceeding to let them die to megabeasts during world generation. Inabas either die easy or overpopulate even the fairies (Tewi seems to get preyed on constantly, but reincarnates every few years.)

All Suika and Oni civilizations are referred to as clans for easy recognition.

Should the Human Village remain a single civ?

It should also be noted that I've been playing a bit around with the fairies' building sequence; haven't yet tested it, but the fairies now have a very small (1 out of 100) chance of generating a single shard of crystal while operating their sunstone/moonstone generators in gem production mode. On their own, these gems can be used to fashion spears which are effective against a really niche assortment of monster (as well as be used for normal gem purposes), but if a player is patient and diligent enough to generate 74 crystals and cut them into gems, they can build a great crystal, which allows access to caste changing; you could change all your fairies to ice fairies for instance, so they wouldn't have to worry about freezing to death in a glacier biome, or fire fairies so they can swim in lava. Turn your near-useless sunflower fairies into wind and earth fairies for a grand army, or maybe just turn everyone into a water fairy so they don't have to worry about dehydrating due to lack of water.

Furthermore, this ties into the fact that fairies possess innate skills depending on their caste; earth fairies make far better miners then sunflower fairies, who will likely just forget any non-farming skills they've accumulated the moment they become inactive for an extended period of time.

The only caste who can't be shifted to or from is of course, Leprechauns; trying to transform one anyways can have less then desirable results.

The crystal is also intended to be able to do other special things possibly, but that is the main draw for now. Should I make them more common, you think? Maybe make them spawn in bundles of four rough crystals a generation?

In Dwarf Fortress, pictures literally are a thousand words, or rather, ASCII symbols assuming you're not playing with tiles.

Nevertheless, a look at the crystal in action. The current method used to transform fairies; the generation of a stone that immediately vaporizes afterward in order to transform them (pictured here), has proved both quite unreliable as well as unwieldy; one can potentially transform several fairies at once if they bunch them up next to the crystal when it goes off. Nevertheless, the only alternative is making it produce potions, which are another can of worms altogether.

Getting a specific fairy to use it is a bit tricky. You'll have to set up a manager and manually manage the crystal so that only a specific fairy may use its reactions at one time.

Also, crystals take a really long time to set up. Need to make sure to set up shard stockpiles next to the site you want to erect them, unless you want the process to take literal seasons!

>> No.13237014

Sorry to hear that Dominanon, it seems like this place is a magnet for setbacks.

Onto Progress:

Wriggle, Lorlei, and Rumia are all ported in from Suika Fortress 34.XX, with the proper modifications as well as a few bugs from last version fixed so they work properly. They're currently semi-megabeasts, though I'm planning to do something special with Wriggle later.

Lots of minor Youkai are finally completed, including Matango (who was a far greater pain implementing then it had any right to be; four separate tissues exist right now for no other reason then to give it a proper mushroomy body), evil eyes, and bakebake.

Speaking of bakebake, they come in two major variants; "wild" bakebake which attack like boogeymen and will harass your settlers in evil biomes, and factory-made bakebake which act as a tier 1 invader and will harass your fortress as early as 20 suika/fairies, but are exceedingly weak; weaker then most yukkuri, even, though the blowguns and slingshots they use might put an eye out!

Three major youkai types have been added; tsuchigumo, terrifying oni-tiger-giant cave spider hybrids that inhabit the deeper parts of the cavern and will wreck the ill-prepared, jorougumo, woman/spider monsters that are basically nastier GCS, and gashadokuro, giant skeletons who will likewise rarely accompany boogeymen and also act as standard night creatures. All non-civilized major youkai have at least minor damage reduction from mundane weapons on top of lots of immunities to make them fun, though not too fun; wouldn't want them to tear apart fledgling fortresses!

Gashadokuro in action, versus Mystia and a couple of her yukkuri look-alikes, with couple of Bakebake acting as spectators. When it takes sufficient cranial damage, the gashadokuro goes transformer and turns its arms and legs into wheels, after which it will attempt to roadkill you. Didn't manage to get the transformation shot in, but it's much less impressive in 16x16 tile mode anyway (that, and I have yet to make the small sprite).

On an aside, I finally got kappa to work properly, and tengu are on the way as well. The game is steadily getting more and more fleshed out, and I hope to release early testing versions to you guys by the end of April (do remember when I say testing version; I'm trying my hardest to iron out all the game breaking bugs as they pop up, but my schedule to do such things is already hectic enough as is!)

Small bug with the Myouren priest, and the satori should get a demon leadership ability or something, because so far I haven't got a commander able to use the onis in battle.

Also, maybe too many level 1 mages (making it hard to make boosters, and I don't know astral enough to use it properly), and the troops' costs are a bit imbalanced, with the tengus goons not costing much gold and hinaguchi being extremely spammable due to their low ressources cost.

Well played, though to be honest, when I almost added the bastard into the game in the first place, he was mostly based off of Yukkuri-abuse anon; the spanking bit was more of an afterthought.

To Progress;

I need to stop staring at the machine files so much. I've wasted a whole day adding in nothing but progressively deadly sentry robots that will rarely accompany the Factory's forces in a siege! The highest leveled variant can kill two oni warriors in combat and exterminate an army of at least 64 undead yak bulls! Oddly, robot maids are still able to kill a Century Robot in single combat despite by all circumstances being seemingly inadequate for the task stat-wise.

Lots of bug fixing in regards to body parts; a bunch of things weren't connecting correctly, now they are.

I added back a couple more Yukkuri from the base game. I also gave them all weaker materials so they're less likely to kill humans in single combat; biokuri have weapons again, now that Bakebake assume their place as the first tier invader.

And questions:

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Should I make a separate "race" file for the Factory proper? Their current status is simply humans with a separate entity file; they have different professions from the Human Village via this; the Village doesn't have any engineers or scientists, which make up the bulk of the Factory's non-security population, while the factory employs almost exclusively riflemen which are far less common on the HV side. The main issue with this is that it also means the factory has youkai exterminators and spiritualists in its ranks where I don't think the latter would really fit them thematically. The issue however is that if I DO make a specific creature file for them, they'd no longer be technically considered "human" by the game.

>>13261476

Also, what do you people feel I really need to add to the game, content-wise? I know I get sidetracked with insignificant details way too often for my own good, and often emptasize the wrong things, but you fellows are the closest I've got to any quality control, and seem to have your heads screwed right.

The biggest hurdle so far is trying to cram as much Touhou mechanics as possible into Dwarf Fortresses' largely ill-documented and incomplete modding base. The reason Totaku before me refrained from adding too many actual Touhou characters is because last version it was almost impossible to accurately model half of them in a way where they'd act recognizable like Touhou characters, which is why there is less empasis on them as opposed to larger entities like "The Oni" or "The Fairies", which is where DF shines in emulating; civilizations.

Nevertheless, as the vanilla game becomes more developed I hope to be able to insert progressively more and more actual Touhous; for one thing, ghost pirates are looking to become a feature, and libraries are coming around the corner giving me hopes that perhaps I can add in a magician race and/or secret, meaning Patchouli.

Most of the above is probably just excuses for my lack of actual coding knowledge. I'm quite sure a better scripted then I could bend DF to their will via DFhack if they really wanted to, but I'm really just a mediocre pixel artist who has found him self taking the helm after two more competent modders before him; perhaps in the next few versions someone better suited will take over afterward, and I could be his spriter!

Especially when you know who everyone is
You do know right?

While there is plot it's pretty simple enough to understand what's going on, like Youki and Youmu encounters and special events like Yukkuri Rebellion.

The main appeal of the game is the side shit that happens, for example in my Tenshi play-through Flandre joined my army first turn, I then proceeded to earthquake the SDM which leads to Remilia trying to rebel constantly and joining whoever is fighting me currently.
All the way till the end.

Well, no. The events themselves aren't really random but things like the Remilia situation tends to happen based on character relations.
For example, it'll take a lot to get Reimu to help you in a war against Marisa if she made her own faction.

Now something like generic rebels seems to be very random for me at least, though I don't know what caused the Shinki situation.

But to give you a idea of how events work.
If you somehow end up with both 98 and windows variants of certain characters, after 1-3 turns of holding them in the same providence they'd interact for a buff.

I have spent the good part of yesterday fixing a bunch of game breaking bugs.

For the next three or so days, I shall run a testfort as the Lunar Fairies to actually show place some proper Dwarf Fortress gameplay; this means that we're at war with everyone!

Current status of the test fort (embarked on a mountain to circumvent the path-finding issues that flying gives near trees); first three floors of the tower are complete after months of doing nothing but running the generators (when embarking as fairies, make sure to start out with at least five wooden logs, build a carpenter's workshop, turn two of them into blocks, deconstruct the workshop, and then build a generator for a quick start; and make sure to assign a fairy alchemy in the other labors tab!), while the first migrant wave has come bringing in a furnace operator, a milk maid, and some farmers.

A bunch of tsukumogami (in this case, toy robots) were stomping around, but luckily none of them came in contact with the tower, which is currently defended by an assorted mix of yukkuri as well as a pack of wolves. My leader seems to like the things, so perhaps we'll use traps to capture one later once all the infrastructure is set up. Compared to the oni/dwarves, fairies take a while to set up, but once they do, they snowball rapidly.

Population is at 10, with a single miner, a bowyer, the leader which doubles as a book keeper and broker at the moment, a furnace operator (next to useless, since fairies don't get access to metal working until after the first foreign caravan, and mountains aren't know for clay), gem cutter (these will be the most important part of your industry later), fisherfairy (who has no idea about the dangers of overfishing), two farmers, a cook, and a milk maid.

Pet stocks include 15 yukkuris, 4 wolves, 2 yaks, 2 cannons (immobile machines rarely available as an embark option; based off of New Super Marisa Land, though they also exist in the actual games in SoEW), and two Hakutakus.

And one of the fairies themselves. Though not the case here, it isn't uncommon for fairies to have a few layers of mental hardening, making them resilient to tragedies such as having their friends and family get brutally slaughtered (in-story, this is explained by the fact that most of them aren't aware they aren't immortal anymore). Their tantrums are also relatively begin if you do manage to break their spirits; they don't really have the upper body strength needed to destroy furniture or hurt another fairy, so usually they'll just mope.

It's a common strategy in dwarf fortress to leave a few (or a horde of) guard animals near the entrance of a fortress to ward of theives and snatchers, as well as provide a first line of defense against rogue werebeasts and semimegas. Yukkuri excell at this role because they're both rapid breeders as well as take a relatively long amount of time to kill.

Day 2 of the fortress...and it already went bust, for multiple reasons. The first being that the reactions regarding gemstones are input wrong so it was spitting out stones instead of gems, and the second reason because of a random crash halfway through attempting to save, attributed to a memory leak according to the bug report (thanks, Toady.) This also means the save is corrupted.

Once I spend some more time bug fixing (as I'm quite sure my buggy inefficent code might be partially to blame), test fort number two shall be set up, with you people deciding the next faction we shall play!

There appears to be a few issues with the entity raws that cause some world gens to not function properly. Or was it the language raws? Whatever the matter, more bugfixing ensures. And other interesting tibits of this world's lore:

Both a suika and an oni civilization declared war on a fairy kingdom, apparently because they didn't appreciate the fairies being compulsive liars, with the former being led by a demon from the underworld. The tactics of the beligerant side were interesting; the suikas acted as footsoldiers taking the brunt of the offensive, while the major onis acted as a special unit; a single group of 12 onis would infiltrate fairy settlements while they were hung up fighting the Suikan army, and them procede to pillage them before they could respond. Said war was waged over the course of a century, with the oni proper coming to aid their Suikan sisters halfway through. By then, thosands had died on both sides, and the fairies were looking pretty war weary, eventually settling on a peace treaty after two of their major cities were razed.

I might have found the cause to the constant crashing an dsubsequent world corruption; multiple instances of duplicated entries in the RAWs which had been building up for some time. Bugfixing has been done, and in the meantime, I've added some more content on the fairy side:

Fairies can embark with "Kedama Spores", which after a few days (or sometimes hours) of in day time will mature into a kedama. Kedamas serve as a combat creature a couple tiers higher then your garden variety yukkuris and can be made into even deadlier variants via the magic circle structures, which transform them into combat creatures roughly based on their AoE depiction;

-The red circle transforms them into a Red Kedama, naturally. Red Kedamas attack at an incredibly swift pace in melee combat, often able to let loose several bites in a single turn, and can also breathe fire. Needless to say, this also makes their negligent highly dangerous, unless you somehow managed to turn all your fairies into the fire caste.

-Blue circles convert them into Blue Kedamas, which can fire a long-ranged bullet as well as breate a medium-length jet of frost which will freeze most enemies to death after a few turns. Like fire fairies, improper use of this ability can possibly lead to non-ice fairies getting caught in the crossfire and frozen to death themselves.

-Green Kedamas, spawning from green circles, fire a medium range bullet of posion which causes non-lethal, but nasty effects on whatever they hit. Out of the elemental kedamas, these are probably the "weakest", but also the least likely to accidentally kill the fairies its trying to protect. In large packs, they can cripple invaders, or even kill them by simply hitting them a sufficient number of time with bullets.

-Black kedamas are a fifth variant who are rarely avalible on the embark screen for a high cost, as well as behing seen through trade. These ill-natured fuzz balls are dangerously accurate biters, and suck the blood of their foes.

You can borrow ideas from Farmville and add a limited farming system. You can borrow ideas from Farming Simulator and add a farming system that allows you cover the entire map with fields.

Or you can divide the map into small squares like in the original Animal Crossing, with each character considering its square as its personal property, thus making it happier when you're bringing improvement to it. For example, Utsuho would enjoy having solar panels, because it makes her feel important to know she can be used, Yuuka would just be happy with sunflowers and torture tools, Rinnosuke will be happy with any kind of abandonned furniture you can just get since he's a hoarder. Stuff like that.
Through I'm not sure how you can get items (maybe by spawning them on the shore or something), and it would be annoying quite quickly, as you (the player) will be hoarding items while waiting for a platinum chunk to give to Reimu and make her happy.

I'm not exactly good with that either, my idea of fun in video games is often related to murder, I usually suck with games not involving stabbing or shooting people. And I doubt you want to turn your Touhou Crossing into Hotline Gensokyo or Touhouborne.

Then maybe you can add some more economical stuff. For example, you can send some of your fairies out for various quests and get brouzoufs and maybe unlock stuff. The more fairies you send, the better your chance to unlock improved houses are, something like that.
That would be a good way to use fairies once you build all the basic houses and gave them to the girls.

And if you really like that idea, you can divide the girls into different tiers, each with specific tastes. For example, Remilia would want a really impressive house, while Sakuya is fine with a smaller one.

And you can also add a rent system to get even more brouzoufs, but I'm not sure how you can spend them, and since the map seems quite small, I doubt you can have all the girls in the same time, so I'm afraid it'll be about shooing the pleb out to attract nobles or something like that.

Incorporating danmaku would be a nice way to give it a Touhou feel. One idea I had bouncing around was playing danmaku with your neighbors every once in a while.

You need to fly to be able to play danmaku, and apparently, the main character was Renko.
It would bother me if Renko were to lose her status as an outsider and get powers.
That would be like making a FPS with Roger Wilco as the main character.

>not already ceasing to be an outsider
Being able to learn a bit about how Gensokyo natives do things is a natural extension of the game's premise. Although maybe it should be more of a late game thing than the whole way through.

There's been a lot of talk of minor mechanics but no single "this is the core of how the game is played". Instead of bemoaning that, why not run with it? Implement a lot of things that are minor by themselves, and unify it through an event system. So you can have events pop up randomly when their requirements are fulfilled and things will happen that have you use particular mechanics, and there will be small storylines and if you succeed you get unique items and get relationship bonuses and stuff.

Dunno, I like the idea of Renko trying to resolve things by being smart and discussing rather than charging in with danmaku. You can't be friend with someone you murdered. Unless you're into taxidermy and schizophrenia.
...
Hang on, I maybe have something. Giving up half of your stats in exchange for a companion.

Quick, I must reinstall RPGMaker and see if it works.

>>13298135
When money is involved, there's no such things as friends. And I like the idea of starting a small fairy maffia with Renko as the godfather. Or godmother.

Kinda agree with him here. Or the Touhou Crossing anon can just put different minigames and see which one are popular, and then expand them.

Is this a problem? You can also just have the wiki in another window.

What doesn't? Lots of things do.

Mouse wheel zooms.

Pretty sure that one's more your problem.

But yeah, the interface is bad. Nobody plays (or recommends) the game for the sake of the interface. Why are you complaining about that here?

No but with some friends I engage in rambunctious sporting activities that could result in things like torn clothing.

And you shouldn't do it just as a greeting of course.

I guess you're right. I should at least try some of these ideas, but I'm just hesitant to program something that I might throw away. That being said, I do like >>13297806 and will have to think more about it.

Minigames were something I was originally had in mind, especially with different buildings. But then I'd have to come up with minigames.

I liked the other art more, but obviously you can't use it because of the clipping on the spirit tendrils. Left is better.

as for what the game should "be", my main interest would be to make friends with the 2hus. doing things for them to build up friendship points and such, and maintaining that by checking in periodically and on special days and stuff.

It's the one thing that's missing from animal crossing (where everyone is generically nice to you and you build this up just by existing in the same town as them, little effort needed), and it would be good to see it in this game.

It's been several threads since I've last posted Suika Fortress progress in Soku...unless other people are starting to post in my steed now. I haven't really been keeping track of them lately.

Nevertheless, fixing the UI is something that I (and lots of people) have been bugging Toady about for quite some time, but he seems content building more content then he is improving on what currently exists for the moment, so some other fellows are attempting to improve the UI via third party stuff, with utilities like some of DFhack's add-ons and Dwarf Therapist.

If it's any consolation, I'll including information text files with the Suika Fortress download as well as a premade world to quickstart these sort of issues for easier play.

If you still want to attempt dwarf fortress, this fellow here has set up a respectable starter pack (even if he IS a redditor): http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=126076.0

Before Totaku made Suika Fortess 34.01, I had no idea how DF's UI worked either, and it ended up just sitting on my desktop for a couple years. Game isn't for everyone, but it's a deep game once you get past the crippling flaws of its decade-old coding.

I'd like to help, but sprite sheets are time consuming even when just focusing on individual creatures. I've actually fallen behind on the graphics department in my own game; Tengu still don't have sprites, and most of the stonesense sprites are incomplete. Not even Master Work, the #1 most popular mod/variant of Dwarf Fortress has full SS support, so attempting to make it work for Suika Fortress is a rather huge undertaking.

Though, If it's really needed, I guess I can sprite small things. What would people have in mind?

Well yeah, you can't just throw everything in willy-nilly. Aside from the first few most fundamental things, different games and mechanics need to be unlocked over time as you play the game, and care should be taken that the systems interlock. But I think that's pretty doable.
