I love this game. I picked a Muslim dynasty last time I played and locked up this German lord who was a devout Catholic (Zealous trait) in a dungeon for 10 years until he finally agreed to convert to Islam. So it is possible (since ZUN was involved in making Graphiti Kingdom) that the universe of Touhou and Graphiti Kingdom might be connected. And by extension through Graphiti Kingdom, Touhou could be connected to Magic Pengel and even freaking Bubble Bobble.

Is this ever explored in anything Touhou related?

Another part here.

So, Aya and Futo later come to the conclusion that this "Feuulor Gasileen" person is the culprit. They decide to ask around the human village to see if anyone knows a human or Yokai who goes by this name, but no one seems to know. They later run into Nitori (at some location. I would say the human village but she doesn't exactly have a reason to just conveniently be there.) and they ask her if she knows of this mischief maker. She ponders for a second and then asks Futo and Aya "Wait, do you mean Fuel and Gasoline?". She explains that gasoline is a type of fuel that can be used to start fires. Aya looks at Futo and gives her a long look. Futo is sort of embarrassed by her mistake but tries to cover it by saying that it's a common mistake that a lot of people probably make. Aya asks Futo who she heard talking about fuel and gasoline. Futo says that it was the voice of that tanuki woman.

Nitori's shy by nature and kind of an asshole, so I'm not exactly 100% sure if she'd cooperate and explain what fuel and gasoline are, but I think she's the only one besides Nue, Mamizou, and maybe Yukari who knows about those things. There's Sanae too, but I'm not sure if Aya and Futo would be able to go up Yokai Mountain together.

A bit more progress in what I am now renaming Cirno's Perfect Fortress/Tower, showcasing some of the tiles as well as basic Cirno (she gets a special sprite if/when she is crowned queen as well). Fiddling with scripting a bit, and it might be possible to get Cirno to be an actual leader, as well as the rest of the fairies; a bit, unique to a specific save that had them specifically modded in, but still.

In other news, I'm now tinkering around with Patchy's files for her old version of fairy fort in order to fill in blanks for creatures, as well as hopefully receive a basic concept for the Tengu. This is mostly for reference, as many of the files are so out of date that DF2014 rejects them outright, even with tinkering. Notably, half the tsukumogami will explode violently in a shower of gore upon death instead of depower into their base item like intended, while I had to remove the scroll creature outright because it kept crashing the game.

I was thinking about making them predominantly crows with wolf tengu as a sub-caste more suited for ground-bound life (and fighting), along with those long-nosed red people. The kappa were luckily updated by Totaku for Suika Fortress, meaning that their files are still relatively salvagable with some modifications, though I've been thinking of giving them larger gender dimorphism; females will look something like Nitori and friends, while males will be the shelled tortoise folk they are in the base files. They're also a possible candidate for third playable race after the Fairies and Minor Oni/Suikans, though I don't think I'd be able to really do justice in portraying them without heavy DF-Hack scripting, and that would lead to dependance issues down the line I wouldn't want to deal with.

>>13037606

I intend to make the game mostly supported by Stonesense, which is the visualizer used to display things isometrically co-currently with the overhead UI, if not replace it entirely. Here are some of the sprites used for the fairies, for instance, which I intend to do as per profession because I have little idea how to make clothing and custom colors work.

-

Trying to decide whether or not I should split fairies into multiple castes with special abilities and attributes like Patchy intended to. On one hand, this would further work to differentiate the fairies from all other DF PC races (and in the mod proper, the Suika, though I already think I've done a good job altering their playstyle), yet on the other I don't really know how to tackle it. Do I give each caste their own innate skill that they're predisposed towards? Personality modifiers? Special abilities? Differing stats?

>> No.13037985

In other news, the current racial lineup would appear to be:

-Playable:-
Minor Oni/Suikas - (like dwarves but with horns and a population heavily skewered towards females)
Sunflower Fairies - (Two Civ Types; Thieving and Peaceful, the former is at odds with the non-thief races: most of them. Play those if you want a challenge! They can't cut down trees.)
-(Usually) Friendly-
Humans (modified a bit to be more Touhouish; they also have a few unique castes that are better able to banish annoying to deal with youkai like earth spirits - possible fortress playable candidate)
Major Oni - (these are almost always allies with the Suika, but are relatively scarce)
Tengu - (they're good fighters and start with unique equipment)
Kappa - (other possible fortress mode candidate; they start with relatively advanced gadgets)
Inbabas - (They're like elves when it comes to trees, though with slightly less terrible wooden gear)
Ogres - (like major oni but dumber and with less useful equipment, both as a player race and as traders. They're also the only non-hostile race able to colonize evil biomes.)
-Thieving Races (Allies of the fairies should you go the thieving route, and enemies to everyone else, including the not-thief fairies. Most of them are non-playable.)-
Daiyoukuri - (sort of like kobolds, they're relatively slow and weak; a poor man's version of the fairy. They're also your first trade partners as a thieving civ, though they don't have much to really offer.)
Hobgoblins - (these annoying buggers are somewhat tougher then fairies, but aren't as fast. They'll trade metal armor, giving you an advantage over "civilized" fairies.)
Kitsune - (transform a lot and are much stronger then the other thieves. Depending on how many tails they have, a startled kitsune thief might just set your fortress on fire. They won't trade with the fairies until late game, but they possess most of the unique objects and that would normally only be used by the standard civs; presumably stolen)
Cont

>> No.13038053

>>13037985

-Hostile (The forces of the Factory)-
Biokuri - (The trash mobs of Suika Fortress as well as your earliest opponents; they don't have weapons and only wear helmets, making dealing with them trivial as Suika, though they're still threatening at close range against the fairies. They'll also occasionally bring far more dangerous Radkuri, which are radioactive dosu the size of a troll and capable of busting down doors and twisting a man into a pretzel, as well as other evil creatures which are considerably more dangerous then they.)
Redcap - (These fairy-turned youkai are much like goblins in vanilla Dwarf Fortress, only far, far faster, as well as fearless. They range from the size of a standard fairy to the height of a man, and the strongest of the bunch can go toe to toe with an oni. They're a big step up from the Biokuri, but their hats remain a weak point, while they also tend to not wear armor above their waistline. Don't engage in close combat as the fairies.)
Factory Workers - (The human employees of the factory, bent on mining Hihi'irokane as a clean source of energy, using yukkuri breeding as a front; it takes a persistent fortress to attract their direct attention. Unlike standard humans, many of the HR agents and "security" they'll send at you tend to have bionic augmentations as well as various drugs injected to enhance their fighting capabilities, making them dangerous enough, while they also carry modern firearms to make them especially deadly.

-Other Races (hidden fun stuff; they might or might not appear depending on where you embark!)-
Tsukumogami - (Embarking near certain areas will leave you liable to be harassed by these mischievous youkai. While weak, they'll prey on civilians as well as the surrounding wildlife without remorse, and can appear rather early in the game.)
Electronic Exile - (Various robotic entities will wander into your map; these range from harmless toy robots to dangerous animated industrial claws which can eat through a fully armored soldier like a can opener. Among these are a semi-organized group of machines that are allied with the tsukumogami in their hatred of humans, and they'll attempt to attack any sufficiently powerful fortress they feel encroaches on their territory with vigor. Though small in number, each of them possesses an ability which makes them dangerous to the unprepared.)
Doll/Deck - (Alice's creations, only without Alice to tell them right from wrong! They'll stubbornly patrol some of the caves you embark nearby, and while delicate, can prove a match to a poorly equipped military. Decks refer to the living suites of cards from Mystic Square, whiles dolls are dolls, and there is a roughly 50/50 chance that a given "Alice" civ will be one or the other.)
Various tribal animal peoples from vanilla Dwarf Fortress which I can't be arsed to remove.

Perhaps make Seiga a necromancer somehow who would often claim a tower in order to pump out Jiang Shi, and hermitry being one of the hidden secrets of life. I don't know how to exactly go about making individuals beyond heavily scripted saves; Totaku attempted to make Keine a unique character once, one who would be the leader or at least a local governor of a human civ, and she almost always ended up getting assassinated a couple decades after world gen. If I made Yoshika a race of necromancers (though set so they wouldn't physically appear on the mapn), and had them all live in a cave with innate knowledge of secrets, there would be a high chance if the conditions were right that one would settle in a necromancer tower, with Yoshika herself being appearing as a single historic character, a bit with a randomized DF name.

Religion descriptions are still missing, as far as I can tell.

Also, if you're planning to do more work improving it:
Even though it deviates from canon a little, I think it would be fun if there were more ways to interact with the rest of the world. For example, the Norse CB to conquer coastal provinces of different religion groups. And there should be at least one merchant republic, and a tribal government would be cool, and the provinces shouldn't all be exactly one of each holding type and one more – if they're gonna be uniform at least make them uniformly maximum holding slots so you can expand if you want.

I also think there should be some differentiation between god, human, and yukai. And a real labor of love would be to give them all traits for what they actually are more specific than that.

In the department of Suika Fortress 2000: Cirno's Perfect Tower Edition:

Started updating the inabas for the next version. Thinking about modding in a custom hopping gait to use for them.

Tentatively testing multiple castes for fairies. The current lineup is:

Sunflower Caste - Vanilla fey, and the most common of the bunch. Have high agility as well as good dodging abilities and innate skill in ranged combat and druidism (currently useless), as well as great creativity, with somewhat low strength. Natural ability is shooting rapid, but very weak sunflower bullets at medium range.

Tremor (Earth) Caste - Burly fairies. Decent agility (only slightly lower then the sunflower caste) as well as strength and endurance, but low creativity as well as a lower learning rate (though also a lower rusting rate to compensate), and the lowest evasion out of all the castes. Their special ability is to shoot short ranged and relatively slow firing rocks, which are probably the most damaging of all the natural bullet attacks, as well as go into trances. Innate melee and ranged ability, as well as striking and kicking.

Light Caste - Blinding agility with the ability to boost it even more when threatened, light fairies are incredibly fast, but also have the lowest strength and endurance of all variants. Their built in skills are in the glass making industry as well as jewelry and ranged, and they have the highest dodging ability of all the castes. Shoots beams of light which are nearly harmless. Also has perfect night vision.

Fire Caste - Hot headed fairies with a penchant for burning things. They're both fast and strong, but have low endurance, as well as less patience and a shorter temper then other fey. Since fire in DF is too fun to usually handle, they only shoot small globs of lava which slowly melt the target to death. Innate skills are wood burning and smelting, as well as ranged. They're also immune to all but the hottest of flames.

(cont)

>> No.13054794

>>13054760

Ice Caste - Cirno's caste (though Cirno herself is technically another entity entirely in game)! Ice fairies have decent agility as well as endurance, and higher then average will power but somewhat low strength, and somewhat weak linguistic ability as well as a personality biased towards being reserved. Innate skills are gem setting and stone (ice) detailing as well as ranged fighting, and they can fire icicles like Cirno. The normally bone chilling temperatures of glacier biomes are no obstacle to them, and they can lounge in the middle of a glacial winter with nothing but a light dress (if that even; clothes tend to degrade rapidly in cold temperatures).

Water Caste - Water fairies are in a constant state of flux. They learn the fastest out of all fairy castes, at a whooping x6 learn rate but also forget things just as quickly! They don't have any strengths like sunflower fairies aside from the above average agility true to all fairies, but are extremely resistant to tantrums. They can also swim (of course), and their skills lie in brewing, dyeing, and fishing. Shoots water, which is useless against 97% of all monsters.

(cont)

>> No.13054806

>>13054794

Gold Caste (Leprechauns) - Initially created as a measure to allow fairies to breed during world generation, leprechauns are both the only male as well as the rarest of all the fairy castes in the game, showing up as 5 individuals per thousand, roughly. They inherit most of the tremor castes' attributes, but replace kicking with wrestling (though they're rather rare to be using as soldiers in a standard game) and ranged ability with proficiency in leatherworking and clothesmaking, and fire sunflower bullets instead of rocks. If they appear, leprechauns might be married to a female fairy, but this is merely a particularly close case of kinship; fairies (virtually) never actually reproduce, so you won't have to deal with annoying babies and useless children...usually. They're also the only caste of fairy able to stay underground for prolonged periods of time without contracting Cave Sickness, an ailment which causes fairies to vomit profusely upon staying beneath the earth too long. Greedy.

---

All the slated castes, though not all of them are completed yet. Thinking about giving fire caste cooking proficiency instead of smelting, and sunflower fairies growing instead of druidism.

One other thing I forgot to mention about water fairies: they don't need to eat, and can subsist on water alone! They're also slightly rarer then the other elemental castes, though not nearly as much as the chaunate.

More fairy testing. All of the castes have been finalized, and they all shoot various types of danmaku, some more effective then others. All castes also have a single tagged physical skill which can increase 250% past their base regardless of the fairy's standing (peasant, hero) as well as two mental attributes; a holdover from Patchy's fairies, which were used as a reference for adding in the new castes (sunflowers are based off of both season and harvest, earth is roughly equivalent to touch, light is a hybrid of the old air and light castes, fire is based off of vapor, ice is an inversion of fire's attributes, and water was statted whole-cloth.) In ASCII mode, each fairy type can be told apart from the colour of their tile.

Additional notes: Fire Caste does cooking instead of smiting. Ice caste now does gem cutting, while it's the light caste that does gem setting. Fire and light fairies glow in the dark!

Any suggestions for secondary abilities to any of the castes in addition to their various elemental bullets?

They'd replace horse archers. Being able to do custom units which do that was added in the India patch, together with elephant and camel cavalries, both of which replace horse archers. Finally got down to testing the fairies in-game again, after adding in the separate castes and a few rudimentary factions for them to interact with, more or less ported in from Suika Fortress 34.11. Their economy is based around buildings which can be set up after a bit of surface mining for stone and tampering with the masonry industry called Sunshine Generators, which generate either sunstone or moonstone blocks (depending on whether you're a thieving or civilized faction), rough boulders, or gems, as well as a very lightweight wood known as feywood/spriteroot (compensating for the fact they can't chop down trees), allowing them to set up surface structures rapidly...in theory. In practice, one is better served claiming some other race's abandoned fortress and using it as refuge while you slowly construct a tower for your fairies to move into (pictured here is a multicolored fort build by one such race). Magic circles exist in building form as well, and are intended to be built and powered by the sunstone you generate from the generators, creating spellbooks which teach fairies new spells as well as possibly spawning war kedama in a la AoE for defense, though the latter would require DF hack to pull off, and neither function has actually been implemented yet until I figure out the spellcard system.

Fairies act faithfully close to canon...perhaps too much; all of them except the light caste are stupidly brave (even though I don't remember biasing their personalities towards that), and will fight rather then flee whatever hostiles they see in spite of being severely outmatched. Non earth-caste fairies are also rather weak, with an animate giant treefrog SKIN from a butchered giant treefrog somehow killing half the fortress (in a rather gory faction, no less; mangled fairy wings were everywhere) before the miner figured out and smacked it to death with her spade.

Maybe using a haunted biome as testing grounds wasn't a good idea.

Okay, the second to last part I think. Aya and Futo go to the Myouren Temple to confront Mamizou. They find her sitting out in the back with Nue. Aya attempts to tell Mamizou that she would like to ask some questions about her whereabouts during the statue burning incident and about her knowledge on gasoline, but before she can finish her sentence Futo cuts her off and says that they know that she (Mamizou) is the true culprit of the incident and is the one who has framed Futo.

Now I'm not sure how I can handle this situation without making them fight. There's no way Mamizou would just be like "Oh, you got me guys! I'm the culprit." I can't bring Satori or Eiki into the story as a form of lie detectors. Maybe Nue could rat her out, but even though she's kind of mean Mamizou is her only(?) friend so I'm not completely sure she'd do that. I can't really do an Ace Attorney thing either because the only thing Aya and Futo have is the fact the Mamizou knows about gasoline.

According what's saw in the code, they are also immortal. if they are not you can still marry a courtier so it's fine.

As for your delete thing, it's a folder generated to cache the flags if you delete it it will just regenerate them. I'm talking of the one in your documents paradox not the one in your main game folder.

Now nitori is technically in the game, I still don't understand the DNA thing yet so that's more try and understand to do. Then the only problem left is the fact 2 characters got messed up when I added nitori, ran now use nitori's clothes and alice use nitori's hair and hat.

To load the first frame you've to use the last frame and go out of range to go back to the first REAL frame, basically the letter A is the first frame, but it load rumia's instead of ran's (ran is actually first) so what you've to do is use the last frame and add +1 to it to load the first REAL frame which is ran's actual clothes, now since I added nitori ran's clothes is now Nitori so I have to redo every characters who use the first frames to first the problem. How are you thinking of adding locations of Gensokyo that are not "normal"? Curious to know if you are going to change the map

I'm trying to make a Touhou mod for another certain strategy game, and there are the same map-making limits as in CK2, underground structures or teleporting locations don't work.

I made a shitty map of Gensokyo based on the routes taken by (mainly) Reimu in the main shmup games. Does it look like it would fare well for a map?

Makai, the Dreamworld, the Underworld, Higan, Heaven, and the Netherworld are the hardest to get. Making mountain passes seems to be the only fix for the first three. It really sucks that it is not possible to make caves as shown here >>13052729

The thing to keep in mind with CKII is that it's a dynasty simulator. Unlike the Total War games where you're leading a faction or a clan, in CKII, you're playing as a king directly. Therefore, if your king dies, it's going to totally fuck you up.

Ideally, you want to save money to buy mercenaries and get the upper hand on the neighbours.
So far, the Touhou mod makes things simple, as most of your neighbours are quite weak with only one land. Therefore, you send in the mercenaries to clean the army, dismiss them, and send your own army to siege, and you basically won a holding. Quite straightforward.

If it wasn't for Rinnosuke being an eunuch and Touhous having friends, Gensokyo would be the next tutorial island.

Currently, I've spent the time digging through other touhou fangames to make up a cohesive bestiary for the next Suika Fortress (alongside the existing yukkuri, sukusukus, youkai, and standard touhou enemies like bakebake and kedama; the end goal being that the base game will be able to run without most of DF's creature files, but said files can be added into the game on demand for full compatibility with vanilla DF - you can have both dwarves and fairies at the same time, as well as mod the game further if you're that sort of person); mostly the RPG games. Some possible candidates so far:

Matango (Four-eyed mushroom with a purple tongue. From the The Genius of Sappheiros)
Usagator (Alliagator with giant eye brows. From Touhou Mother)
Gedoh (Odd white stick-figure with a knife. From Touhou Mother.)
Mischievous-looking rabbit (A sneaky mallet-wielding rabbit who is up to no good. Drops said mallet when butchered, and is a building destroyer. Especially annoying when playing as fairies, who won't try to kill them on-sight like the suika. From 2hu Agband)
Creeping copper coins (From 2hu Agband. Uses the same sprite as coins in the tileset. Beware of random piles of money!)
Wololhand (Laybrinth of Touhou creature. Though, I don't even know what it is, other then the fact its name is so distinctive)
Volcanus (From 2hu hack & slash. I don't know what this really is either, having never played the game)
Skyfish (Floating eel-like creature that is oddly fire resistant. From Tendou Blade)

Most of the base files will exist from Dwarf Fortress even without merging; creatures like elephants, rhesus macaque, giant dingos will be just as annoying to the suika as they are to the dwarves, and fairies might have the fortune to befriend and utilize these various natural monstrosities as part of their defense racket to offset their frailty.

On the topic of what I've done today, I'm now working on converting the Suika to actual playable status again. I also gave fairies crayons.

What about the ying yang orbs?

>> No.13073772

>>13073681

I don't really know what to do with the orbs yet, as I have yet to figure out what they even ARE exactly, with conflicting sources listing them as fairies, tsukumogami, and spirits respectively. Heck, I might even make them vermin that cause a special syndrome that transforms whatever they "bite" (effect) into some sort of miko, or maybe be allegedly benign creatures that constantly cast a spell that causes severe damage to nearby youkai.

On youkai, I've had some interesting experiments on how to deal with them depending on types. For you basic centurion animal youkai, I have devised a template that can be applied to most animals in order to make a small chance of one to spawn as a youkai creature, though applying it to /every/ animal is going to be a pain, while for others like the Konaki-jiji and Rokurokubi, "youkaidom" is actually a secret/curse like vamprism, allowing such creatures to masqurade in human towns as just another normal citizen, which you can then proceed to hunt down as a youkai exterminator without mercy in adventurer mode if you so please.

Other, more standard youkai like the Nurikabe and Ushi-oni act something closer to most hostile, fantastical creatures, and can even be captured and rudimentary tamed. They'll rarely take this in good spirit however, and should usually be kept a good distance away from your populace lest they randomly lash out and crush and/or mutilate them.

Many youkai, aside from being exterminator bait (note that for stronger yokai, banishing them will remove some of their abilities to make them easier to fight, but not kill them), also have obscure weaknesses to take advantage of. For instance, oni can't eat soybeans (they cause severe internal necrosis upon attempting to do so as suika; fun!)

You can possibly add Daidarabotchi to the megabeast list, but I think DF actually DOES have an upper size limit, so he might only be 200,000,000 cm^3.

I guess that won't be necessary now. But I now have a problem... it's the fact the alphabet has obviously a limit, and i'm soon reaching it. To fix this, I would need to make a new culture... now the question is which culture? I have to move a specie into his own culture from the youkai culture. Tengu? Satori? Kappa? Ghost? I'm not sure which one, in any case it would be best if it's a culture I've not already done portrait of it. Moving everything to a new culture will be quite a lot of work sadly. I'm currently doing Aya right now

I'm debating whether to have omnipresence or a player avatar. I'm starting to lean towards having an avatar, and figure I might as well just let the user choose their character. Someone suggested I use Renko and Maribel as the player sprites, but I don't have them. So this will have to do for now.

I'm not sure what I'll do with the code. I've almost completely rewritten it from the first version. I've grown attached to it since it's starting to look like a real game now. Though I have been thinking of using some sort of version control, maybe publicly accessible. I'm not sure yet.

In other news, got a brief test fort of the lunar faction fairies up; the first without using DF Hack to speed up the game. They actually do quite well if you get lucky with embark loadout and manage to score cannons as part of the supply list, as well a embark in a place without trees due to fliers having poorly coded pathfinding which tends to get them stuck in tree branches (stupid creatures). It seems to take, using a 24 block diameter tower, about one year of non-stop working to complete the first five floors, my current lineup being a well room at the base floor connected to the nearby stream via underground pipe, a storage room for all the wagon goods as well as ungodly amount of moonstone gems and blocks generated for later use as windows and building material, a master kitchen/food storage, a grand cafeteria, and the first residential floor, which was large enough for 16 rooms.

Suika are being fine-tuned and given SS sprites, but are otherwise still mostly just reskinned dwarves. This will likely change once I get the spellcard system starting up.
