I started reading Higurashi again, and Onikakushi is really my favorite one. I like how K1 slowly becomes insane and paranoid, and I really like the "ancient conspiracy" aspect of the incident.

And in retrospect, I really like how you can't be sure of anything in these stories. In the average detective story, you know that the main hero won't die, and that his sidekick won't die either.
In Higurashi, everybody can die, the main character is an unreliable narrator, and you don't know if the events are real or imagined.

Strangely enough, I loved that in Higurashi, but I hated it in Umineko. Ryukishi just tried too hard to write a deconstruction that he ended up writing complete nonsense that isn't fun to read.
It's like watching Sharknado and expecting a stupidly fun movie and getting Eraserhead instead.
Sure, it's a "good" movie, but it isn't what I wanted.

Plus it makes re-reading the questions arcs better, as you can determine what is real and what comes from the characters' delusions.

There's no text. In the scene where Ange reads the diary there were originally some images depicting the contents of the diary that included Rudolph and Kyrie with guns. The manga added this back in and showed a few other shots of the parents in the gold room shooting each other.

Not only Umineko sends contradicting messages, but it also takes the mystery away from the player, by giving him a seat in the furthest place possible. Higurashi had a first person perspective, putting the player either in Keiichi, Shion, Rena or Rika's head, Umineko takes the character away from you and don't let you care for them. Instead of being IN the story, you become a silent spectator watching a ginger moron being manipulated by several different witches.
You learn that the couple who disappeared three years ago were Satoko's parents? Wow, that's terrible, she's a classmate.
Battler learns that Ange was his sister all along? Too bad, you already knew. Better eat that hamburger now.

Kinda. First, she got several arcs with variations, exactly like the 1-3 arcs for Keiichi, then the MC got switched to Tomoe. It was even set a parallel main plot line, as it ended up being concluded in the last ps2 last arc version of the ds games.

Most of the tracks in the Question arcs and a few in Kai were replaced.

Some if it is good (some of it is worse), but the problem is they use 1 track for 2-3 different replaced tracks, so there's less music and it's much more repetitive.

There's a patch to restore the original music, of course.

Tsumihoroboshi-hen is my favorite.
It's by far the greatest work Ryukishi has ever done.

It's perfectly paced, reveals the backstory of two of its main characters, expands the world while referencing the first two, teases the audience that whatever bullshit theory they had imagined was fucking stupid (Mion talking about how UFO conspiracy shit is just silly).0
Then you have the goddamn Hostage take over and the greatest finale of two friends fighting on the rooftop of the school because why not.
All for it to give a final twist at the end by revealing that even though destiny was defeated, everyone still died.

It's pure perfection. I can't find a single flaw in it.

Yes.

The manga had a a few slight changes that improve the flow even more. It's really amazing.

For example, in the VN, the gang just decide to go treasure seeking to cheer up Rena and happen to stumble on the body. This is done to transition from the beginning of the story to the now.

But in the manga, it just one step further by having the gang stumble on Rena while she's cutting up the body. It's just a slight improvement but it makes it so much more shocking.
And at the beginning, we see that Rena starts to hallucinate and scratches herself to the point where she sees worms. That wasn't in the VN but the manga makes it a good point to foreshadow how Rena is feeling overall without mentioning the backstory.

And the ending of Tsumihoroboshi was better done in the manga.
It's really just ''WE DID IT, WE DEFEAT FATE, WE WON'T FOLLOW YOUR DEMON SCRIPT, WE WILL LIVE!!!''

The end.

Then it just fades to black for like 3 pages with a ominous asking why the reader kept turning the pages if the story was over. And bam, fuck you, everyone still dies even though the Sonozakis aren't the culprits.

That part was brilliant.

But man, DEEN really fucked up the anime of that arc.

The only thing DEEN did good was an original couple of episodes between Tsumihoroboshi and Rika's arc where it's just Rika seeming depressed and knowing that the end is coming.

Gotta admit I regretted it a bit. The anime is too quick, it misses lotsa details. Even years later, I still think I woulda figured out the culprit if I played the game before watching the anime.

It's the answer arc where everything finally comes to light, and I just love that "we can do it" feeling throughout, even if it does come to a tragic halt, you know that there's still a final shot next time. Also Rika a cute and the part where K1 finally does stuff right with Mii makes me hnnngg.

I read Higurashi to a semi blind guy and he kept noting the fact that K1 was getting paranoid for no reason at the beginning.

Also, Ryukishi really doesn't want you to take the whole mysterious disease thing seriously.
It's just a narrative point to show that not trusting your friends can lead to that extreme and that the Hinamizawa syndrome can be real only if we let it happen.

I've always felt like Matsuribayashi was "Minagoroshi part 2." After the brutality in Minagoroshi's ending, I really needed to see the gang get that happy ending they've worked so hard to reach.

Still, Tsumihoroboshi was the best.

Also, even if Battler didn't expose the truth due to principles, Clair did for the episodes, and Bern did for Prime. The actual explanation for the closed rooms is not really relevant. If you are interested in that, read the manga or just reread the episodes taking Yasu into account, it's not that hard to figure out.
