Those people are not famous outside of the Internet, which only about 18% of the world population actively uses, and the vast majority of those 18% can't even find the control panel and do nothing but chat on Yahoo about their camping trips.

I guess you could find a niche like being a competitive eater. That's really big in Japan, especially since the rise of Kobayashi. Everyone in Japan knows who Joey Chestnut is now that he's beaten Kobayashi two years in a row.

To be honest, the easiest way for a foreigner to become famous in Japan would be to go on a shooting spree at Akihabara.

I would not recommend it, however.
