One of my lecturers at university actually recently explained this after asked why we don't use the Hepburn romanization and instead romanize characters like じ as zi or ち as ti.
It's mostly done because of the greater consistency with the romanization of the other characters, which can be fairly important when examining word stems and other stuff as well as the fact that e.g. ち is only pronounced as chi because japanese people are shit at pronouncing an actual ti, not because the 't' is actually supposed to sound different from the 't' in た or て.
So in this context in definitely makes sense, though it can be pretty confusing for people without any knowledge of japanese since they'd obviously pronounce a ti as ti instead of chi if they read that in a romanized japanese word.
I don't think this is something to worry about on this board though.
