I really like Carach Angren. Their albums all have a distinctive motive encompassing their songs, and their capability to convey that certain dream-like sense of eeriness in them reminds me of Ghost Reverie and Still Life, though these two albums are something different musically, of course.

If by "hiding your power level" you mean "not being an obnoxious douche in public", then yeah, you should do that. I don't really know how you could show it aside from wearing an anime t-shirt or something. If you're talking about hiding it at home, well, who gives a shit. Unless you live with your parents and they're going to disown you, stop caring.

Do you get upset if people reveal their plevel? Not full blown shoving it down your throat reveal, but a subtle wearing japan-based apparel or accessory type thing.

What do you mean by hide? I don't go flaunting it around like a raging autist, if that's what you mean. I don't play mission impossibly with myself by going through ridiculous feats to hide it either. I also don't pretend to be hiding it when in fact I'm trying to give off hints in some deluded hope that somebody will pick up on it and talk to me.
I just treat it like a normal hobby that I'm embarrassed about and won't talk about unless somebody else brings it up. Like you should. If some ugly, annoying girl asked if I liked X hobby, I would say no to get her away from me. If some bro asked if I liked X, I would be more inclined to say yes. Same with anime.
Stop being so autistic about this. "Hiding your powerlevel" was something said in the days when people flaunted their anime hobby like it made them a special snowflake.

I don't understand it, but this special snowflake business coming out of right field really grinds my gears.
Possibly because I worked to hard to make myself different to get the autismbux and I see people spouting this vomit as if they have no idea how different people can be from each other.
Imagine humanity after space colonization. How many of us will be spread across the solar system and then the galaxy. Beyond proper-like Space Trek speech I'm sure peoples on the rim of the organism will be very different and planets would develop their own culture.
Dirty piggy white people would, of course be at an advantage when it comes to social interaction being that they can blush and I think that beak came from some need of further socialization. Niggers can, attack people at night? Or whatever. Most likely nothing.

Anyway it's just so fucking twitter and reddit, not 4chan where that's the only way you can get through to someone is being extreme sometimes. Maybe for the hardcore like myself that only have anonymous internet interaction and find such a large wall when expressing themselves.

I mean, if Moe really could change, we'd see an explosion in "special snowflakes" that I'm sure all of us would welcome. Stop being a faggot. Understand that your conservative background is exactly what it sounds like you inbred fuck.

So /jp/, my father was yelling at me to either continue my education or get a job, so I decided to take Japanese and microeconomics at a local community college this quarter, to work towards a transfer degree to an actual university in a couple years.

By this point, I only knew Hiragana, Katakana, a few kanji, and had read through TaeKim for a few sections. I figured I might as well take Japanese I to start with.

When I entered the classroom for the first time yesterday, everyone seemed so... normal. Most people seemed to know absolutely nothing about Hiragana or Katakana. They didn't seem crazy about anime or manga. They were either hiding their power level very well, or I was in a class full of normies. I'm not sure whether this is a good or bad thing. I didn't really say much in class, aside from basic greetings.

It's sort of disappointing that the pace for the class is so slow though. Throughout the quarter, we're really only learning Hiragana, Katakana, and some words/grammar rules to go with them. No Kanji at all. I guess that's what I should expect for going to a community college instead of an expensive private one. I would have gone up a level, but my schedule wouldn't allow it.

At least my instructor is a cute Japanese lady in her 20's.

I once played a 2hu on my laptop during my downtime in university in a hallway, and after a long while of bunch of awkward "why is this person playing an epilepsy simulator with lolis" looks, this stereotypically nerdy guy with glasses and stuttering approached me to ask if I had the latest one (at that time I think it was the DDC demo). He reminded me of /jp/ and I presume it took some effort to even approach me to ask, so afterwards I ended up talking about STGs as he professed his devotion to the Moriya Shrine. It was kind of cute in a way, so I didn't mind.

Personally I think that 4chan's culture of "powerlevel hiding" is ultimately rooted in social phobia, and self hatred. To try and make friends with fellow enthusiasts of video games, anime, visual novels, or any form that might be considered to effect your "power level" is seen as shameful. But this at complete odds with the act of spending time with others discussing these things on 4chan. What I beleive is that this shaming of exposing the fact that you enjoy certain things is a device that lets someone who is paralyzed by social phobia not feel bad about. Believing it is wrong to make friends prevents you from hating yourself when you can not. This is if you believe that there is nothing wrong with making friends with those who like power level related media. However if a person believes that making friends with these people is inherently bad, then they can only be self loathing. They believe that the only people that enjoy these things are contemptible, and thus they themselves are.

To advertise or expose that you have a high power level should not be done loudly and colourfully. This is blatantly true for all but the most socially inept. No one who likes anything, no matter how socially acceptable does not paint their entire self with that. But, when I see a 4chan poster shaming, bullying and condemning those that have found friendship at anime clubs, or those who have a sticker of an anime girl on their notebook I can only feel bad for them.

Thank you for reading.

Do you travel through Eastern Asian countries for your job, or do you develop games, or what?
And did you study Japanese/ video game design in college?

From what I've heard you spend roughly 2 years at a snail's pace before it really picks up. A friend of mine said the only English his instructor used was on the first day when he said "This class will be in Japanese only."

hiding your powerlevel is stupid. Everyone has hobbies others don't care about. Do you think girls hide their stuffed animal collection or something? Either you have a hobby in common which is cool, or the other person doesn't give a shit. That's 99% of interactions, not that /jp/ would know about this

I don't hide it, but there aren't many chances to show it. Like I'm not going to go around and flaunt my interests, but if I see something I like, I'm doing it. Or if someone asks what I like, yeah I'll tell them.
I've gotten drunk and ranted about Touhou with people more than once. Usually blows a few minds after they've had enough drinks in them

``Hiding your power level'' is what any reasonable person should do. The people you are forced to interact with in life do not give one iota about the weeaboo shit you fill your life with. So, much like you probably don't want to hear about the degenerate shit normies' fill their lives with, it is only polite to keep your interests to yourself.

You don't have to go fill introvert about it. If the opportunity comes up, mention your interests. If the person you're talking to shares said interest, congrats, you may have brought a friendship a little closer.

Plus, you're only going to live once. Why live in hiding and in shame? Again, I'm not saying you should bring out the body pillows and doujin ringtones, but fuck, dude.

Besides, if nobody really gives a shit about what you like, that's even more reason to not bother keeping it away from people. Own yourself, don't let other people own you.

The pace is slow because the curriculum is meant to make you spend more time studying and consequently spend more money on education, even if you somehow don't pay at all, you're still wasting your time. It's another Jewish rort.
