I'm an outsider but I came to ask a question

How did Touhou gain such a huge following inst it just a scrolling shooter game?

It doesn't seem something that would be as popular as it is.

It doesn't have men on the cover. There was like 3 men on the cover of the game from of the wiki page I looked. Only one very plain looking girl wearing boring clothes.

There are plenty of waifus in the games. The one in the middle here is mine. She has a cat that eats bullets and then fires them back at enemies.

Marisa and Reimu are at her sides. They're basically Marisa and Reimu.
One of the guys uses a girl as a weapon too. Later on the Reimu girl became the weapon, but it's still a girl.

Actually upon checking there are two guys that use girls as weapons, and also they replaced some of the guys with girls in the third game.
