u wot m8? Both the title and S1 themes are among the best in the series. The S1 boss theme is pretty mediocre though.

Anyways, it's either IN or PCB for sure. Then MoF and SA, then TD and MS, then EoSD and UFO, then the rest in some order.

If sorted by amount of good tracks (and by good I mean at least 9/10):

PCB: 5 good tracks

SA: 4 good tracks

EoSD: 3 good tracks. Though this game has the best fan remixes/arrangements.

UFO: 2 good tracks. And one of them is a fucking stage 1 theme, that's pathetic. And no, stage 6 theme is not that good, generic "use drums for heartbeat", 7/10 max. U.N.Owen's rip-off doesn't count too.

IN: 2 good tracks. However both of them are arrangements of themes from PC-98 games so IN has zero original good tracks.

DDC: 1 good track. Sukuna is shit though.

MoF. 1 good track. Special mention for worst stage 6 boss theme.

TD. 0 good tracks. Desire Drive is shit. The only remotely good part is True Administrator from http://youtu.be/Ykyz5tcJ-NE?t=1m12s to 1:41. Too bad Mikoshit has only 1 spellcard that is suited for that part.

IN is my favourite game of the series, and its music is part of the reason. It's hard to find an ost I don't love from that game. Immortal Smoke, Lunatic Princess, Kagome Kagome, History of the Moon, Voyage 1970 (also 1969, I guess), Deaf to All But The Song, Old World. It's just so good.

The shittiest taste in this thread. I can't believe anyone here likes music from fighting games.

Every time I hear SWR/IaMP's arrangements I remember this sketch: http://youtu.be/2yv8rkYRAXE.. "Yeah, ZUN's music is super great and awesome, but now I want you to make it sound as generic as possible. Turn it into a single boring jazzy (or metal) happy motive". U2 and NKZ completely distorted original mood of the tracks, destroyed any feelings associated with characters, stripped tracks off any meaning. And at the same time the they didn't even try to add their own feelings to the music. All their tracks sound absolutely the same. But in the end it's not just a music which plays during boss fight, it's a fucking character theme, the most character defining thing in Touhou (after spellcards).
Seriously, just check U2's and NKZ's music comments in IaMP. They didn't describe how each theme represented a character, what emotions/feelings they tried to achieve with each track. They just wanted to make their music sound different from original, nothing else. Also they didn't even leave any music comments in SWR, probably because they were not thinking about anything at all when they created that OST.

You can take almost any doujin circle out there and they will have better instrumental arrangements than those two shitters. How did they manage to turn this http://youtu.be/wPwCCoPhy7k into THIS http://youtu.be/KaaqiCtR3qA? It's so bad even ZUN decided to rearrange it one more time in GFW.

IN has the best music by a wide margin. Stage 4-6AB has the best music of the series. Mokou has the best EX boss theme and Kaguya has the best boss theme.

The worst? EoSD, ZUN hadn;t reached his prime yet. Outside of Meiling's theme nothing is all that memorable.

PODD has the best OST out of the PC-98 games, with LLS as a close second.

As for the Windows games:

MoF > IN > DDC > PCB

Kanako's theme will always be my favourite boss theme, and the IN soundtrack is just really good in general. DDC has Sukuna and Raiko's themes and PCB has a great atmosphere.
