The first game has two different translations, one a fan translation for the original PSP version and the other an official release for Vita. I've only played the fan translation, and it's excellent (if a bit too liberal at times, but it never seriously bothered me).

The sequel only has an official translation. I recently started reading it, and it seems fine (a bit awkward at times, but nothing serious - still above the average fan translation level).

More important is whether or not you'd like the story itself: some people love it (myself, I even rated it above things like Fate/stay night, Clannad, Steins;Gate and Higurashi), but it's clearly not for everyone. If you're capable of immersing yourself in a story that's both ridiculous (as in, purposely ridiculous, not 'so bad it's good') and dead serious at the same time, you'll probably love Danganronpa.

Swing and a miss. The rollover from 65355 to 0 (or vice versa, or the signed equivalents) is a normal overflow, not a stack overflow. A 'stack overflow' is when too many 'previous position' pointers are remembered, generally when infinitely calling the same function(s) recursively (which causes it to store where it was before the function was called so it can return, but each time it's called an additional address is stored, until the stack is full).

Mangagamer contracts out translators as necessary so they've always got a flow of games. They space their shit out a month or so between each though to give everything time to sell. September's gonna be d2bvsdeardrops, so that leaves about three months left in the year.

Mangagamer's got NTY, Cartagra, Eden, Evangile, and three shitty nukige all nearing the finish line at the same time, so chances that Cartagra and Evangile release back to back are... low. If those are the only two you care about, you should be fine.

I'd put my money on Cartagra in November, Eden in January, NTY in February, and Evangile in April with assorted shit in the months inbetween, but they all seem fairly close so who knows.

Cartagra and eden will probably be out before the end of the year and they frequently double-up with the short nukige titles, so you can safely ignore Secret Sorrow, Melissa, Forbidden Love and Sara as far as the 1 game/month schedule goes.

There's also the Higurashi re-tl to consider. The first chapter's been finished for a while and Doddler's been working on scripting lately.

Sara is lilith, so I doubt mangagamer will do a double release on it. They've only done short sales periods for appetite/morning star stuff, and even then it's only happened twice or so.

March for Evangile seems a fair guess to me, Maybe February.

Actually, the week of Valentines Day makes a lot of sense for a moege, so I'll change my guess to that.

That's why it's best to avoid reading too much praise before going into a game. You're just going to have it overhyped because people are generally awful at expressing their opinions. The optimal situation would be to have someone who can explain the premise in an unbiased way, like the guy who posted earlier in the thread, but of course that's not going to happen. I'm pretty conflicted, because the game actually does look promising enough for what it is, but his posts are so fucking annoying. And I'd imagine all hell will break loose if this girl's route is translated first even though she looks like the best one.

I'm skimming through her CGs right now and they are extremely cute. It's kinda a waste to for this game to have two milfs when their character design is actually pretty solid. I would love if at least one of the milfs were swapped out for another small breasted heroine.

Yeah, I guess I just don't see a lot of other notables.

I tend to be into stories with really good surprises / reveals. Looking at things that even have the potential to get released in the foreseeable future, I kind of have to bank on it.

Subahibi
Sumaga (Confidence on this is limited)
Mahoutsukai no Yoru (Might not really fit what I'm looking for)
Cannonball (Might not really fit what I'm looking for)
Supreme Candy (A ways off)
White Album 2 (A huge ways off)
Grisaia (A huge way off and it sounds like it becomes more generic)

Basically everything else that I want has no real hope of getting translated.

Baldr Sky Dive 1 & 2 are stuck in a perpetual translation hell and GIGA sounds like they are ready to persecute people.
Saihate no Ima looks like it's too hard to translate and no one will do it.
JQV no one has even looked at it.
Dies Irae sounds too hard to translate.
Myth nothing here.

So... other than Subahibi it doesn't look like there is much for me to get excited about in the near term. We'll see, but I don't think having high expectations for Subahibi is a mistake.

Really? That's a surprise. Well, I'm still interested in the premise and even if it's English, I'm just glad that I'll get to read something by Sca-ji.

So that now sort of leaves Sumaga as my last realistic hope. That and if R07 writes another When They Cry, because it is basically assured a fairly quick translation.

But yeah, this is the point where it's a question of "learn Japanese" or just disappear from the hobby for a good while and check in later.

>> No.12466531

>>12466525

Okay, I'm double posting but I have to ask. There's a lot of gay stuff where the stories actually look good, but I really would rather not read lengthy manlove stories.

In particular, Dramatical Murder and Togainu no Chi look like... they have the potential to be interesting or to just veer way too deep into manlove-fixation.

Pardon the entendre, but how much gay stuff is thrust into our face in those 3 stories (No Thank You!!, Dramatical Murder, Togainu no Chi).

Also, though I fear asking, is there an otome game I may have missed with really good reveals/ "tweests". I'm basically just desperate for anything good to read that I may have missed, and Otome/BL is probably the only real source left since I avoided all of them.

>> No.12466549

>>12466531

Dramatical Murder probably has the least porn, but both it and Togainu have abysmally stupid stories. That said, if you enjoy things that are hilarious because of how bad they are, definitely check them out. I guess technically DMMd has twists, but they're all pretty dumb/come out of nowhere.

NTY has a fair bit more porn, but the story's actually good. Think like Bartender crossed with a yakuza movie, I guess? But with a few twists. Despite being marketed as a silly nukige, it's actually more of an utsuge. It's got a lot of action and the characters are all well developed. For what it's worth, while it does have a lot of porn, most of it is pretty amusing.

As far as otome with tweeeests that's translated, Hatoful is the obvious answer (make sure you actually get to the final route though, that's where the real fun starts––it's about as long as the entire rest of the game).

>I tend to be into stories with really good surprises / reveals.

I did enough research on the topic to know of its current status. Memory chips that store the game on the Vita memory chips is encrypted although you could extract it provided you are very versed in electrical circuitry but it would be useless since you can't decrypt it and it's secure from a hardware standpoint. People managed to break the PSP mode of the Vita because Sony never actually stopped CFW on the PSP and it's the only "hack" you can do on your Vita to load CFW in the PSP mode. No one has a Vita systemwide exploit, however, that would allow CFW for file access for Vita games. It will probably take a long time for CFW to show up by that regard, and we might of had one if it wasn't for some blogging dude I won't mention directly that told Sony of the exploit for brownie points.

Which honestly sucks, since we had been able to have our PS2 and PSP versions of our game cracked and seeing as the Vita version just released, we would probably have been able to port our translation over to the Vita version provided we could get the files from that game version. So all we can do now is ignore the Vita version and just port the game over to the PS2 and PSP and be done with it unless the situation changes, which is doubtful by our time of release.

Dumping a game isn't really the hard part. I'm not really into the vita scene, but if I recall you can literally download vita packages right off PSN's servers like pirates do with ps3 dlc. The problem is the encryption, or specifically the keys that nobody has.

Yeah, I mean, I entirely agree with you, and it's really because of your point (that none of the other ones are talked about or will get translated) that for me SubaHibi is sort of the last hurrah.

There just aren't the translation projects for what I want and the titles themselves look extremely difficult to translate. So while I am completely aware that SubaHibi is not the final frontier, it's sort of the last thing within my reach for the foreseeable future (2+ years) that seems to have the content that I want.

So... after SubaHibi there's no reason for me to follow the hobby for a few years. It's either learn moonrunes or just come back in a few years, see if anything interesting is even close to done, and if not, repeat until I stop caring.

In any case, we're moving at the same pace as always. Last week's count was messed up a bit since I committed the wrong numbers but I got that corrected and everything should be fine since we should be over the number we wrongly set after this month. I'm very new to VNs and I was thinking of taking this one on as my second proper VN. The main appeal to me is the art direction, followed by the setting. Does anyone have a guestimate as to when this one will be done? Is it even possible to estimate this or is there too many factors?

Hmm. I think it's largely because Rose Gun Days has sort of violated my trust already... in particular, I'm talking about the resolution of the Caleb arc. It's hard to take any of the plotline seriously when a major resolution / defining moment of an entire arc of build up is just taken back.

That and I see Rose Gun Days as a good break for R07 from... his normal focus of writing. I think it will help him improve his core focus when he returns to it. Ultimately, I don't go to R07 for the kind of story being told with Rose Gun Days. It's not bad, it's just like... going to a sushi place and ordering teriyaki. Yes, you can, and it may even be good, but it's not what they do.

But the violation of trust with the Caleb thing makes me really unexcited for it. I look forward to him returning to what he does best with renewed spirit and even more proficient writing.

I also only sort of liked Higanbana. It seemed like it was a bit too much of territory he had already covered.

People post screenshots of specific areas where they think a translation sucks. However, much of the time it really is griping about translators that take a less than literal approach to a few lines to make them funnier/better/smoother. I think that kind of translation should be encouraged.

However, there were some particularly good examples where:

1) The translated line is literally saying the opposite or the converse of what the character is saying.
2) The translated line has absolutely nothing to do with what is actually being said.
3) The translated line makes figurative language into something literal, in a way that misses the point entirely.

That having been said, there is a lot of really unfair bitching about translations that does happen. And it's a shame because there are many translators that are adequate to the source material that get discouraged or shamed out. So I prefer that it's really reserved for things like Machine TL projects or just complete mis-translations.

Since I didn't skip anything it's hard to say how much ctrling through the porn would affect the overall experience. I think it's important for buildup/immersion purposes but skimming might still give enough of that; there aren't any specific plot points or foreshadowing in the porn itself that you'd have to keep an eye out for, from what I remember.

I wouldn't recommend skipping anything once the plot kicks in. This includes a few more disturbing porn scenes (not nearly as frequent) but they're important to the overall feeling/flow of the story and even the emotional impact.

Yeah, I suppose Commie underestimates just how retarded the average anime watcher is. For example, you foolishly overlooked the fact that there's an alternate subtitle track that removes the random German words even though there's a big thing at the start of each episode to inform you of this. I guess they didn't beat it over your head enough.

I will be fair to you, I have watched that episode with the proper subtitle track and the line "This is tyranny beyond Hitler!" is still there, but it's not like that's even an inappropriate translation for the line. The important thing is, none of it was irreversibly mangled. You just chose to use the wrong subtitle track.

The thing with Commie is, they like to have fun, but they never do it in such a way that ruins the experience for the viewer. And I am one hundred percent serious when I say that the liberties they do take are on exactly the same level as FFF, a fansub group that is generally quite well-regarded.

>> No.12473413

As >>12473395 said, the original ep1 did not have any alternate track or anything; just the mangled translation. People bitched, and eventually they released a v2 including the alternate track. People who watched it when it was released still watched it with the bullshit subtitles, and if people hadn't bitched they would've gone on doing only that.

>the line "This is tyranny beyond Hitler!" is still there, but it's not like that's even an inappropriate translation for the line.
I don't know, but to me 'that's unreasonable!' sounds rather different from 'this is tyranny beyond Hitler!', especially in a show about tanks with a semi-German name.

And what that says is that Commie is willing to fix things for the sake of the viewers. They never intended to torment them in the first place, it just turned out that the majority thought the subs were going too far. Setting that aside, the person who was just complaining was specifically using the v2, so all of this is after the fact.

I also don't see your problem with that line. It conveyed dissatisfaction appropriate for the situation.

>> No.12473731

The thing is, they aren't WILLING to offend people because they were never trying to offend you. You just got offended by it. That's like how people on tumblr get mad at someone for complimenting them and then place the blame on the person that complimented them (yes, this actually happens, somehow).

The point I've been trying to make here is that groups like Commie do generally take translating seriously. The Girls und Panzer situation was just an example of the occasional "fun" and, as I pointed out, they quickly made up for that mistake by also including the serious subs. It's just that people take issue with their policies (such not including honorifics, and translating Japanese words or concepts like manga and senpai) even though these policies are not even "wrong" - just different from what these people seem to want. So if you dislike them, cool, that's your opinion, but to call their translations bad is idiocy beyond Moe, Larry and Curly.

And to respond to the last bit, you shouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions about who I am. I can clearly see why you are an EX-fansubber, though.

Batman here.

Hello batcitizen, you seem to be unfamiliar with the caped crusader. I've kept watch since before the erection of /jp/ and been working with various entities over the years. You may not have seen my name that often in the past but you may be familiar with my charity work including "my mega busters :x", "melon fuck.", "quality cabbage.", and quite a few other little markers over the years around in 4chan.

You certainly can catch a glimpse of my work in imoto paradise. Certainly you can find more of my recent pieces I've released over on Batman scans.

See you same bat time, see you same bat place.

ImoPara was done by imbecile YukkuriS.
So YukkuriS = Batman = Dovac.

No, ImoPara had two translators because YukkuriS couldn't be assed to finish it.

They are three separate people.
YukkuriS is @Shinikenshi on twitter and cofounded Sekai with Dovac.
Batman is @Trantez, and going by this thread and twitter, is translating WEE & Pacas.

I was a bit disappointed by lack of sex scenes, but story-wise, its definitely better than usual moege of the month.
Also it has rare kind of actually good ojousama.

These are generic words you could throw at any VN. Did you even read it yourself beyond ep1?
WEE is definitely not something you could call "forgettable, bland or generic" because its neither of it. It has unique among VNs story and setting, and plenty of interesting and relatively rare characters. Well, you get to see all of that only in ep2 and forward, so no wonder EOPs like you spread FUD not knowing whats its actually like.

Now that you mention it, it's pretty amusing, in a depressing way. Most people who throw around words like "generic" are in fact being generic themselves and honestly don't really have much to say.

Really, these people should be ashamed of themselves for not being able to appreciate just how wonderful Isuna Hasekura's works are.

One of the editors for the Koiken Otome project. There's nothing actually wrong with him, so I'm guessing it's just Futsuu or someone expressing how much pain his behind is in.

A heads up to those not aware because it's pretty convincing in this context, but Shinikenshi is not YukkuriS. There's no proof whatsoever for this and it's just baseless slander towards Shini and Sekai.
