How do the bullets and shit in the games translate canonically? Like do they all really shoot a shit load of stuff in patterns while making slow minute movements to dodge them all, and sometimes getting hit once kills you and other times you die after a set amount of time or getting shot 8 trillion times, like how it's portrayed in the game, or is it something different?

Sort of, except they're both using boss spell cards so it's bullet hell x2. Remember the basic video game rule that any enemy, no matter how cool or awesome they are as a foe, will mysteriously appear to lose the vast majority of their power once they come over to the player's side.

Someone should really make a game that is able to break this rule.

Somehow, the game's mechanics and plot are set up so that it's still challenging as hell, but the boss character's power is just as formidable as they were as an NPC.
Maybe they're just really fucking hard to control properly, as a PC.
