Please help. How can I keep up my motivation when doing projects in chunks?

Like, I can plow through when I'm doing something, but if I stop for 10 minutes my flow stops working and I can't restart what I was doing. This effect lasts for weeks.

I really want to finish my animations.

Style shouldn't be too much of a concern when you are starting off

You should focus on literally copying the style of your favorite artists until you get good and pick up your favorite parts of drawing something from others and manage your own style.

For the head, just look at >>12286386 and notice the huge size of her forehead if she was bald and then compare it to your drawing. Animes have huge heads

Yeah I have some really serious issues of not being able to tell when something is. I always have to get someone to snap me out of it, and when I have and can see I kind of wonder what I was thinking. It looked a little better with the suggestions I got but maybe I'll just start over this time.

For as long as the art has existed, anyone and everyone who has been able to produce good drawings, have obtained this ability by being able to look at their own work and say "this is putrid shit". The thing is though, that maybe only half of those people have been able to look at their work and understand, that they have in fact gotten over the high threshold of mediocrity. Many have killed themselves in that swamp. You need to be able to say "this is shit" to learn, but you need to be able to say "this will suffice" and "this is good" too, when you come upon something you should keep doing in your art.

Go and draw something right now, and be objective about what is good and what is bad in it, then look at something someone else made. Why is the part of your drawing that was bad looking good in that drawing? Then take that, and steal that shit. It's going to look good eventually. Believe in your stealing abilities, and then when you're good enough, you can change it to cover your "crime". We like to call it influence and inspiration.

Thanks for your honest opinions. That design has been trashed. I would rather you guys let me know then spend another 20 hours trying to animate it. Never done 3D modeling before, so I guess it was bound to turn out badly.

I'll post game play footage of some test building once I finish this house.

I'll just wait until further down the line to do the CHR files, but I guess I can still doodle at player designs.

I photoshopped different images together then traced in SAI while having references open on my other screend for the clothing. If I didn't do that it would take me at least a couple days per image like my non-referenced shit drawings. That game is still being worked on, but it started delving very heavily into scripting to progress the story, which was getting me worked up trying to just bug test each new item. This game has been fun to build and test demolitions. It's mostly just building assets in 3dsMax.

I've never worked on games before, so this is mainly just one big learning experience.

Here is some building testing. All buildings really need more assets inside, but the overall feel is a blockish arcade first person shooter. I am aiming for 3 different modes; berserk, single and multi. Berserk will be the player just trying to rack up as much points as possible before getting killed in a city. Single player has 12 episodes which will tell Sara's story. Multiplayer, which I have no idea how to make possible, would be two players vs two players in a fully destructible city.

I hope to release this game piece by piece, starting with a limited berserk mode, since I know it will take many years to flush out the whole city.

After playing Ar Tonelico 3, I really wanted to draw the futuristic looking little/young girl. Tried something different with the color and I like how it turned out.
She's still missing the limbs and I would also like to add a weapon, maybe a PSO-style dagger. What do you think?

Thanks. Yeah, there are also a couple other small anatomy mistakes such as the breasts and shoulders not being on the same plane. I'm just starting out with Michael Hampton so please forgive me.
After this, it's back to anatomy sketches. But color is so much more fun.

Assuming that your humans look like from a bloody starter I would recommend you to start with a drawing book that has more emphasis on construction. Otherwise you will face problems applying your anatomy knowledge. I find Michael Hampton pretty good. There's also Loomis figure drawing for all it's worth or what it was called. If you have trouble with the concept of constructio Loomis fun with a pencil might be a good call.
If you've a good grasp of constuction and perspective, grasp yourself a good anatomy book for artists and use goolge or whatever search engine you prefer for references.

So I came over the urge to draw something and happened to draw what is supposed to be a fairy, sans wings, so far. H-How does she look? I did use references, I won't even deny

Also I have gotten much further with that picture already, but wanted to only post the lineart to see what kinds of reactions I'm getting. I may have it finished, soon.

Eyes have distinct size difference that is not supposed to be there.
The drawing in general seems to have a wobbly understanding of form and the quality of the lineart isn't helping either.

For reference, I did orient myself on http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=33039224 for the biggest part for pose and proportions, but the feel is not quite there yet, heh. You probably can tell that this is only my, like... third or so drawing on this tablet so far, and SAI is a bitch to get used to, had a few problems with getting consistant line-art, as you noticed.

I'll definitely want to practice more, no question, and I'm glad you gave me the pointers! Sadly, I was pretty much finished with the full picture (fuck shading, I am not ready for this league yet) by the time you guys posted, but I will try to keep that in mind.

I may try to do more tomorrow!

Good to see that you are. The green crescents along Vepar's tail are pretty nice, they look like the light organs of deep sea fish (though these are usually circular). Is she still a futanari mermaid, or is he a trap now?

Also, did you do any non-Pillar demons? Solomon's gang is cool and all, but they have nothing on things like Bosch's Satan, toilet seat Belphegor or cripple Asmodeus (the three-headed fellow in Ars Goetia can't compare to him).

Actually, the design of her tail was based off various tropical fishes and poisonous amphibians (more specifically the poison dart frog).

Wouldn't that interfere with the learning process. Most cutesy art styles require you to bastardize proportions and anatomy. Which in turn teaches you bad practices.

You apply what you learn to it. They still have anatomy, just simplified. The proportions are changed, but they still follow a rule. They wouldn't be able to be animated like they are if it didn't follow any of this.
