Walking around Akihabara.
Step outside Animate after buying some Kancolle merch.
Two girls walk up.
"E-excuse me. We're doing a survey for our university. えっと、Do you like animation?"
Shrug shoulders.
"Meh, not really."
"O-oh, okay then."
Walk off.
My face when feel like a badass.

Quite an exaggeration. I haven't seen Kancolle works by the majority of Touhou artists I like. The "conflict" seems really overstated. Of course, it does exist, but obviously it doesn't have any effect on the Touhou series itself, only on secondary works, which there's still plenty of.

>girl who likes bugs
"From the dusty mesa, her looming shadow grows
Hidden in the branches of the poison creosote.

She twines her spines up slowly towards the boiling sun,
And when I touched her skin, my fingers ran with blood.

In the hushing dusk, under a swollen silver moon,
I came walking with the wind to watch the cactus bloom.

A strange hunger haunted me; the looming shadows danced.
I fell down to the thorny brush and felt a trembling hand.

When the last light warms the rocks and the rattlesnakes unfold,
Mountain cats will come to drag away your bones.

And rise with me forever across the silent sand,
And the stars will be your eyes! And the wind will be my hands."

I don't like alot of things, but I do get pretty obsessive about things I do like, and the things I do like are usually extremely mainstream like Saki or GuP or Love Live. Huh, I think it isn't elitist enough, or rather, it's too accessible which is why you see so many idiots posturing, memeing, and hyping shitty series. And not only am I uninterested in what /a/ tends to discuss, I also hate the manner in which they discuss it. Nothing but stale memes and stupid catchphrases. Even worse when I somehow hear that shit in real life.

Elitism is good when it's being perpetrated by people who know what they're talking about, and not retards being elitist for the sake of being elitist.

/a/ and /jp/ both suck shit in this regard, but /a/ is marginally worse.

>> No.12274129

Is it the Touhou or what separating these two boards? Anime is one main point in otaku life and culture so I visit both boards. These days more /jp/ because I want to learn more about otaku culture but I don't play any Touhou or Kancolle. I can do anime by just watching it. I don't really like to share opinions on anime so /a/ becomes only a search machine for my thirst of knowledge, too.
What I mean is that it's the same people and you're failing as an otaku if you totally disgust anime.

>> No.12274133

Anime isn't really as popular as westerners make it out to believe, even among otaku. Generally it's because anime is seen as a niwaka thing to do, so otaku aren't as open about it as much as manga or video-games, unless it's something like the Gundam anime with robot otaku. But most otaku don't really pay close attention to anime as much as other mediums. Otaku these days generally play eroge, read doujinshi, and collect merchandise for their rooms.

>> No.12280941

>>12263752
I've seen it and enjoyed it. I don't see it talked about like say the Godfather. How has it become overrated?

>> No.12281069

>>12280853
Huh, I remember reading that anime (esp. late night shows) was considered "more otaku" than manga given manga's prevalence in Japanese society. It was a while back though.

Games (depending), collecting, and doujin work most definitely clock higher on the scale regardless though. Still, niwaka getting into the figure world hard now.
