It tickles my autism when there's so much information inexplicably presented to the player. Like how does he know exactly which way is north without having a compass in his face constantly or exactly how much ammunition he has without having counted and checked?

HUDless Arma pls.

You can't tell direction based on the sun and stars? Even inside you should be able to tell the direction based on time of year and angle of the shadows. The same could be done on a night with a moon.

A friend of mine refused to admit that ARMA was a 1st person shooter. The autism is strong with him.

If you spend time looking at the stars and sky you pick up those sorts of things automatically. You can even get a vague idea the time of day/night and even find out what season it is with the position of the sun and stars in the sky.

It's a neat skill to have.

But ultrarealism is fun anon, you just aren't high enough on the spectrum. Also if you ever want to see realism + casual fps crossbreed done right just check out Red Orchestra too bad like 100 people play it.

The setting, the soundtrack, the map designs and props, the guns all are good and very well done.

However, the gameplay is simply garbage. There is a good reason for why it was dead and it was because it was boring. It's simply not fun. Shooting the guns doesn't feel good, the smokes make everything unplayable. Maps feel really cramped.

The game needs to be way more tactical and with less players on both teams. There needs to be elements of teamwork and hacking to make it really interesting. Drones, autonomous robots, hacking computers, real recon classes with optical camos that need to go in first before everyone else can go. You know, not having the game be a simple 12v12 deathmatch shitfest. Even Blacklight Retribution is a better game than this at this point.

Yeah, I thought of this. There's many methods an orienteer has, but having such a precise compass embedded in your eyes is pushing it.

I'm just recalling an old Arma scenario I read about where a squad needs to navigate a jungle at night with only the squadleader having a compass. No maps, no NV equipment. To me, it seems the thrill of it wasn't shooting cunts and shouting "gg" down the mic at the end - it's actually just trying to get out of the jungle alive.

I guess it all depends on what you find satisfying in a vidya.

I've just enjoyed looking at stars ever since I was a kid and I like to wander around at night. On nights with a full moon you don't need a flashlight or anything and long exposures can look neat: http://i.imgur.com/xJva7CA.jpg (taken at 11PM in December facing west while the moon was full [also please don't bully it was one of the oldest/shittiest pictures I have and I know it lacks a subject but the colors are nice])

You can see some of Pegasus in the top left.

i wish i could drive, then i'd go to deserts and shit and take pictures all night. walking 40km to find things like this is no fun. i want to live self-sufficiently in the middle of fucking nowhere one day, deserts of course pose the problem with their lack of water.

The maps are hit and miss at the same time.
At times they are just cramped enough to have a tense firefight in the center while still having enough room to run around and flank your opponents.
On the other side of the coin, you will have many many rounds where there are 2 people left alive and they just walk in circles because nobody actually cares about the ghost and the match ends in a tie because they walk around on opposite sites of the map.

ITT: People knowing jack shit about the game or it's mechanics, having only played it for a round or two while getting their ass kicked, criticizing a well-balanced and greatly polished mod that focuses on teamplay and has such greatly detailed maps for such an old shitty engine.

How dare you not like what I like.

The soundtrack is great, hell, I even bought the CD when it came out, but it barely enters into the actual game at all.

The main problem is that the gunplay and movement just doesn't have the weight you expect from a good shooter. It would have really benefited from some better sound effects, and movement for the heavier classes feels less like you're walking and more like you're just slowly gliding along.

Actually, I think making the support so slow was the biggest misstep, because it makes it a chore for recon and assault to hold back so the entire team can stay as a group.

>> No.12272432

The ost is the best part of the game.

When I played, when it first came out, everyone would just camp invisible and rounds lasted until time out. So if you died early you essentially were doing nothing for an eternity.
