Didn't even notice it was out, I'll pick it up later.

I found the first game very dull, lots of touch screen crap and slicing directions hardly ever worked correctly, diagonals often ruined full combo streaks. But then, I'm not a big fan of FF or its music, like the target audience for this stuff. They might be more forgiving of poor gameplay.

Mirai 2 is the much better purchase, although Mirai 1 was terrible. I hope CC improves on the original in a similar way.

You can buy a pack of 7 buttons from chinks on ebay for 20 bucks, and they're a million times better than the awful mushy cheap official controllers. In terms of actually building a wooden box though, you're looking at about a 40 dollar minimum for a drill, some spade bits to cut button holes, and one of those glorious Japanese wood saws to cut the sides of your box out. Wood can probably be had for free.

I've been following this guide. http://homingpuyo.blog91.fc2.com/blog-entry-650.html

I'm still collecting parts but I'm going to mill out a solid block of wood for the housing instead of making a hollow box like this guy. I have an old table that's basically a thick, solid chunk of wood.

One this that has always annoyed me about my IIDX controller was the plastic housing made the controller feel "mushy". I think a solid hunk of wood with only the nessecary milled out parts will make the sdvx controller feel very solid. If it goes well I'll build an IIDX controller the same way.

The real answer is there's probably none. But if you want to set up the key location to act like a real IIDX controller, I'd set it up like f t g y h u j with capslock and left shift as the turntable.

>> No.12141159

My setup was Shift/Caps for turntable, and then X R B U M 9 and (whatever is under your P key). It emulates the distances between the keys on an actual IIDX controller pretty well and it'll be WAY easier to switch to the real thing than if you use linear or very cramped layouts

I've been playing LR2 on and off for about a year. Pretty much as soon as I found out about it and saw a few videos of it I bought a dao. Its my first rhythm game. I feel like I need to make excuses for this next part.
This guy promised to invite me to sows a couple of months ago once he started seeding and got 200 points for the invite or something, I'm probably never going to see the invite but that inspired me to start playing on a regular basis instead of sporadically going weeks without playing.
I played for at least an hour everyday no matter what for about 3 weeks and went from regularly clearing level 4 songs I know being on level 4 after almost a year of playing is pretty bad to level 6 songs but then I got stuck and it began to seem like I was never actually going to get an invite so I got frustrated and quit.
I was just playing and I was trying to figure out how to get the game mode that fails you if the groove gauge hits 0 or something like that and I realized I had been playing on the "mirrored" setting all this time. I thought this would make me shit, and that I had wasted all this time and instilled bad habits that I would never be able to break but then when I started playing songs patterns that was normally breaking my brain and make my hands retarded made sense. Its amazing, the answer to improving was right there in the setting all this time.

Man, I bought an arduino to run my SDVX knobs, only to realise the uno sucks for it. Not only does it not allow you to use the native USB libraries to convert input into analog movement, it only has 2 interrupt pins. With a nice quality, high resolution rotary encoder, connecting to anything but 2 interrupt pins means high speed tracking is a little off.

If you're planning on making the same mistake as me, get a Leonardo. USB support and 4 interrupt pins means you can connect 2 rotary encoders easily, and convert the input to mouse X and Y with some basic coding. Combined with an upside-down IIDX pad for the 7 buttons you need, the cost is anywhere from 15 bucks (cardboard box, cheap clicky encoders), to 40 bucks (spare wood, higher quality encoders).

If you don't have an IIDX controller, the price is even better, because you can use one of the encoders for the turntable, and just move it between the IIDX and SDVX positions when you need it.

Does anybody have an idea of what days or times arcades tend to be less crowded? I want to burn through my money playing a lot of rhythm games when I visit tokyo, but I'm afraid I won't enjoy it if I have to deal with a sweaty clusterfuck of people everywhere.

Arcades are occupied most of the time in Tokyo. Best bet would be at about 10am on a weekday.

some arcades allow you to rent a machine with infinite coins or in some cases free mode
usually the rate is slightly more expensive than just using coins though

daily e-amusement server maintenance is done between 5 am to 7 am so 7 am would be the best time if you're really dedicated

How the fuck am I supposed to build an SDVX controller without being in Sows? It seems like everyone gets everything for that off of there.
No idea how to program a Teensy or anything for the controller. No idea who Lanman is or how to contact him about the DIY kit. Everything else is in Japanese.
Some one please hold my hand and help me

Given I'm a cool guy, I'll help you out. First step, you need 2 rotary encoders. The best option is finding a couple without detents (meaning they turn smoothly), second best is using high resolution expensive ones (about 10 bucks each), and if all else fails you can use normal ones with detents. Total cost, anywhere from 2 bucks to 20. Next, get either an Arduino (cheaper), or a Teensy, and look up how to connect your encoders to it. Cost, 8 to 30 bucks.

You'll also need a set of buttons, you can buy arcade accurate shit, or just use an IIDX pad upside-down. Cost, free to 70 bucks. Connect these to Arduino pins and ground with a few resistors (a dollar or two), and you're done.

Next, make a case. The ideal is having some kind of plastic/metal forming factory at home, but realistic options are wood (pretty cheap or free, you probably have most of the tools like a drill and jigsaw already), a pre-made plastic box (more expensive, not as strong, but easy to work with if you find the right size), or cardboard (very weak, use multiple layers). Total cost, anywhere from free to a hundred bucks or so.

Programming a Teensy/Arduino isn't too hard, and you can always just steal code you find online and slightly change it. I've got mine set up to emulate mouse axis.

my personal impression of timing strictness between arcade rhythm games:
pop'n>DDR>iidx>technika(ded)>reflec beat>PIU>>jubeat

Pretty sure there isn't. Just aim for 100% first time through, I liked the easy introduction to each song before actually trying it for real.
