Maybe that's why I love smoking trees when I enjoy otaku media.

You can get really immersed in a VN and let the game do the thinking. You forget it's not real for a moment.
So I think you may be right.

Higurashi caused me an immense amount of anxiety because of this, but it really added to the experience.
