There are plenty of western artists that has decent drawing skill. It's just that most of them prefer to use contemporary art and I agree that it actually prevent them to improve most of the time.
But then there are also western artists that are really good at adopting Japanese style of drawing that you can't see the distinction.

I don't mind people with poor drawing skill as long as they keep it to themselves. Unfortunately, there are plenty of western artist with poor drawing skill that are just as attention-whoring and try to advertise their "contemporary" art.

I'm also confused about this contemporary use of the term "contemporary". As far as I'm aware, it merely means "from the same time period", where the time period is assumed to be the present unless stated otherwise. I don't quite see how it's a relevant stylistic description, or meaningful at all when all the art we're talking about is, by definition, contemporary.
