Well, some people can. It depends on the genre, too. With all the bad transcodes floating around, it's understandable that some people will prefer lossless downloads, even when it's only to transcode it to MP3 on their own.

COOL&CREATE hasn't done shit for the Touhou fandom for years. Their new album released this fall was their first one since what, 2005? that wasn't a rerelease. Beat Mario has done a handful of vocals and an electronic Desire Drive arrangement on the side, but other than that, nothing.

I found it very ironic when their new albums featured a love song dedicated to the Touhou fandom, even chanting all the titles of the series in order, when the circle itself hasn't done more than a single arrange of any track from any game older than MoF.

What I'm trying to say is that they weren't really providing anything to the fandom in first place.

IOSYS though, them I like, but I'm not going to bother starting anything there.

How do I get the CUE files to work again when the music is in .TTA format? I used to know but I've forgot now. Fuck. I vaguely remember opening the cue file in notepad and replacing the "WAVE" with "TTA" or something like that and it working.

In your case, I would recommend just using this:

and rename the .tta file in the folder to Reversal Scherzo.tta. It should work. Delete the japanese and just keep the file names in english.

Why? Ota's guilty plea was reported by CBLDF on 12/20/13. C85 started in 12/29/13. You really expect me to believe 9 days is enough time for all the porn circles to suddenly resubmit their titles to the publishing companies so they can be reprinted with added censorship? Many fucking circles get their works finished and published at the last minute--Since when was a 9 day window adequate time for these guys?

I love ucchi's singing. It's a shame they haven't actually made any good releases since they were Yellow Zebra. They took a turn for the worse, I think, but every Comiket, I give them another chance.

Brightest Way I thought was really creative and that and both Brilliant World versions was the pinnacle of Maurits"Zen"Cornelis's abilities imo. In terms of NAGI☆, I would say Story or Step was the best thing he ever did. I have a little faith in later installments, as Hail Storm and Runway Drive were absolutely amazing, but it's more of a guilty unless proven kinda thing now. The XFD for the new song really rubs me the wrong way and I'm not liking the prog metal turn of the new Maurits songs either. He also did more appealing instrumentals too back in the day...

I see FELT albums as a package with a theme, style, and "feeling" and it's getting less and less so and more "do whatever" as the events go on. 4th album was a perfect example of their signature formatting and how everything just fits together.

I know I shouldn't be caring about all this since it's all doujin etc etc., but I've seen enough talented artists go down the pit of no return and I rather not see more of it. It's just sad.

Comiket releases are always the best, because people actually follow some sort of protocol with their uploads. M3-32 was a fucking mess of TTA+cue files, broken titles, and other missteps. I still haven't sorted all of the problems out.

Hearing the difference now isn't the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange…well don’t get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren’t stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you’ll be glad you did.

Not sure. You can do things with the MP3 encoder that change how the spectrum looks, and 20.5khz isn't really completely set in stone, it can go slightly above.
You can see there is still a slight shelf before 22khz, and frequencies start to fade off at about 20.5khz

Also, IMO, a giveaway that it's an MP3 is how muddy everything looks.
If you look at the original FLAC for that track, everything is really smooth, the right side of the spectrum where it's fading out extended almost to the top, while the MP3 looks really blocky and muddy there. Same with the left and middle sections, usually you don't get artifacts like that in lossless audio.

It also just fails when your browser decides the default save directory is on a partition that doesn't have any room left because HTML5 a shit, and the 'no room left' error supersedes the 'where do you want to save?' dialog. I've been using megadl from megatools with some success, but that's not being developed anymore due to the API license, so I'm not sure for how much longer it will work.

I said that in a confusing manner. I used iTunes to encode, but what's actually doing the encoding is the FhG encoder in lieu of the more typical LAME encoder. So it would be that encoding with FhG via iTunes looks nicer.

That said I'm not sure what it looking "nicer" actually means in a practical sense. Both tracks sound the same to my ears.

Yeah, I really don't know how to explain it. It's just... Lacking impact. Grimoire of Alice, for example. It's just got the same crunching rhythm guitars throughout the entire thing. And you can barely hear any other instruments. Death Echo's a lot nicer; there's more variety in the instruments and it spices things up more. The melodies, too, a lot of the songs the melody guitar doesn't really stand out from the rhythm and doesn't have much impact, or it sounds really... whiny, like in Sic World. Like something Daisuke Ishiwatari would do but with less detailed backing.
Compare it to Innocent Treasures or Border of Life from their earlier albums; the melody instantly stands out and the rhythm guitars aren't just crunching on in the background; they're adding to it.

High frequencies are very expensive bitrate-wise to encode. Furthermore, the grand majority of people cannot hear above 20KHz (lower for adults) and most music only contains very small amount of energy at those frequencies.

It makes sense to apply a lowpass at 20KHz to allow enough bitrate to encode more critical frequencies like the range from 1500Hz to 5Khz (where the ears are more sensitive). So in essence, LAME does the right thing compared to the Fraunhofer encoder.
