Figs are the otaku version of fitted caps. People insist on paying extra money for a product that is nigh-indistinguishable from a knockoff because it has the official seal of approval or whatever.

Even if you guys had access to 3D printers and cad files of you're waifus you'd still be buying official nihon imports, because you can and only filthy plebs buy knockoffs or print they're waifus. (which is true, by the way. I got my hands on sum autismbux and all of it is going to buy nip shit. Thank you taxpayers!)

What do you think, your figs are handcrafted? They're made by machines anyway.

As for the 'experience', for me it lies in putting it on your desk and looking at it. What exactly is the part you enjoy? Overpaying due to licensing fees and nerd markup? High cost and/or high wait time shipping with the potential to receive a damaged item? Fighting with your retailer to exchange it, if they even have any left?

I buy originals because they're the best made option, but if I could get that exact same quality for a fraction of the price, you're damn straight I would.

Well, yeah. That's the whole point. The wait makes it all the better for me.

I guess you don't collect. It's hard to fully explain, but the whole point is that I have something that few others do. I had to sock away $20 each paycheck and do a bit of overtime, but that just made it all the more worthwhile.

Also, if you don't take pictures and/or fap to your figs, you aren't getting your monies' worth.

I'm pretty sure most figures are handcrafted by chinese slaves, thats cheaper than having an automated flexible machines which would flawlessly craft and paint all the small features changing constantly every few months, if its even possible.

>> No.11685390

Some of us think doing that is a badge of honor or accomplishment or nerd p0n0s or something. Then some would rather have the fucking thing done with. That applies to both parts of that analogy.

Not everyone has the level of autism required to clear Asakura P a dozen times, and plenty more people just don't have the time due to jobs and lives and stuff.

No, it's perfectly clear.

It's just that the people who think that way and actually think that having a figure first means anything are a tiny minority.

>> No.11685399

>>11685125
Inside Japan they tend to be more accessible and less expensive (at the very least because of less shipping costs), so that's a lower barrier already. Also there are plenty of otherwise "normal" people who will get one or a few figures if it's of a character they really like or something nostalgic. This is the reason for all the ludicrously expensive Kamen Rider toys and such.

Figures are a shitty hobby. One guy in this thread somewhere pretty much summed it up, but lets face it, your dick is the one buying these things, not you. I used to try and justify this hobby of figure collecting just like everyone else but it was really just my dick talking. Collecting all the cute and sexy figures of my favorite characters (occasionally I would buy for the badass factor, but that was heavily outweighed by my dick picks), if you asked me what the point of it was or what I enjoyed about this whole thing, I couldn't give you a straight answer. It's really just a shitty, selfish and expensive hobby that amounts to nothing.
