Is there any western fan artist that you consider as tolerable, content-wise or art-wise?

>> No.11570693

Very few, the ones that are mimic "eastern" art style so hard that it has to be indistinguishable.

Theres some amusing comics/humor/puns, but thats about it.

I don't know.

>> No.11570712

There are a lot of artists, especially the Slav(and Finn too) ones that draw really good and cute pics. They just never say they're Slavs(or Finns) and that makes them completely indistinguishable from the good jap artists.

>> No.11570713

I'm pretty sure there are, but I don't pay attention to artists' place of residence, and neither do they bring it up.

The few that do bring it up invariably suck, though. It's as if they think it's some kind of disability that will excuse their lack of skill.

Manga-style artists I've never really cared about. The kind of Westerners who pick up art because they want to make Chinese cartoon drawings aren't really artists. They're like people who take computer science because they want to make games.

On average I would say Western art quality is higher. Not just because there are more people in the Western world than in Japan, but because you have all the great artists from the US and Europe drawing more realistic fantasy art, whereas Japan is generally more focused on cartoon images.

Basically, if someone is a real artist who learned anatomy, shading, etc. before they went into manga drawings, then they're going to be a lot better than some weeb who likes cartoons so he followed a DeviantART tutorial and bought a "How to Draw Manga" book.

Well, OP said "fan-artist" and we're on /jp/, so he must be refers to westerners who try to draw their favorite japanese cartoons, whether you considers them as artists or not.

I'd like to see a cartoonist's take on 2hu characters, they have a knack for beating sameface syndrome very well, so much that I strongly prefer it to the uguu-ness of the majority of Touhou art.

What are some good comic books?
I used to like the Batman comics alot, and I've read most of the more older ones, and I've read Transmetropolitan and The Last Man. I don't like how alot of the newer superhero comics look. The colors just seem really ugly.

Sometimes there are people that too lazy to put more efforts on art and only goes for something that they want to tell, even though they can do better on the art if they tried.

Though, I agree that they're less better than people who put more efforts on every works or those who able to draw good even with less efforts, but you can't just outright judge their skill from single picture and assuming that it's their full skill.

>The colors just seem really ugly.

This makes me sad. The reprint of The Killing Joke is really awful compared to the original. It's like they equate bright and colourful with silly and campy. You can have something thematically serious, sad, or brooding but still use bright colours. The Joker should be all about that. He doesn't have to be shown in washed-out sepia tones, he's still the clown prince of crime who ruins lives and murders people like a maniac.
