Sameface happens in reality, too. Not everyone's face is covered with unique scars, tattoos or piercings.
Sameface arguments are always petty and pointless, unless you're expecting the artist to make every character into some wiggly blob shaped into a human, like Ed, Edd n Eddy.

You are not making anything about the art better like that. You don't have to be deformed to have a more unique face. The only reason everyone has the same face in Touhou is because ZUN can't draw anything else and all his artists either suck almost as much anyway or are forced to use his bad art as base for their art. I'm not saying anything about ZUN, I'm saying that the "Sameface" complaint in general is stupid. It's based around the idea that characters must be unique in facial structure and shape, rather than clothing, hair, posture, any other design choices that are much more important than simply a few lines on the face or a head that's slightly more round than the other characters.
ZUN's not a very good artist, that's a given. But his emphasis is on the character's hair, clothing and posture, which make them much more memorable and identifiable than simply marking the face up.

It's a valid complaint about the quality of the art. Just ignoring that aspect of character design for fancy clothing will not make it look any better. Not even when Araki is doing it.

It's not going to be better if all you're doing is focusing on making the face unique. Taking care in the details is fine, but doing just that and ignoring the big picture is what ruins character design.
This is what separates the red-nosed Tumbler kiddies from professionals like Hirohiko Araki. His characters are well known because of his unique design and art, not because he gives every character a different nose size.
