To be honest, no, this isn't really the best option, it's not like there are walls of texts in games, most girls says nonsense stuff, you can't get a grip of what the fuck is going on if you don't read it out of the game in most cases.

Read the wiki, data books, official mangas. These are the best choices.

As a proud secondary who has terrible reflexes and panics too easily I am unable to play the games, even on easy. So I stuck to reading everything, and you should too! I've read all the dialogue scripts from the games, every single comic, every bit of synopsis I could get my hands on, and even Japanese myths and legends to get better background information on the time period and the references in the games.

It's a wonderful and rich universe and I don't feel the games should be any barrier towards familiarizing yourself with it.
