Use a userscript. I don't think too many people use Futaba 'as-is'. The navigation system is really horrible, in my opinion, especially the fact that you have to reload to view a page with a unique address.

Most scripts either reorganize the navigation sidebar into a pullout or change it up entirely, and offer automatic noko and inline reply notifications, just like most 4chan userscripts. I don't know where you would find this, but a quick google would probably give you a good idea.

I have a Japanese IP, but I don't post much.

Yes and No. They still humiliate and reduce touhous down to their lowest, most commonly identifiable traits (ie, Sanae is slutty, NEETori is into gadgets, etc). They don't seem to sexualize touhous as much, but that probably has more to do with board rules than personal preference. I'm basing my opinions off images they post, so I could be wrong.

The humor is just.. Different. I can't put my finger on it, but you can tell they're just as passionate about their 2hus as we are.

There are two boards for touhou: 東方裏 and 東方. As I understand it, 東方裏 is just another board they added to make the main 東方 board less crowded, but they have different audiences, much like /v/ and /vg/, so posts tend to be slightly different.

Try some of the other boards too though. This site was helpful for me, http://www.bluethree.us/futaba/

It might be hard to really get a grasp of what's going on, but I think it's worth the effort to get another perspective on how other people enjoy the same things that we do.
