I've been having trouble sleeping lately, for some reason. Every night I wake up after only 6-7 hours, and then I feel tired the whole next day. I can't sleep during the day either for some reason.

Also yesterday I went to buy food for my cat. I had to go to a pet store where the cashier sort of knows my face. She smiled and said "Hi". Next think you know they'll be asking how I'm doing. It went fine, though.

What have you NEETs been up to lately?

>> No.11530780

I'm hungry but there's nothing good in the house.

I'm thinking about going to a certain fast food restaurant, but an old school friend works there. We weren't close; he was in the year below me and we just walked home together. Still, he'll want to know how I've been, what I'm doing now, etc.

How do normal people deal with this stuff?

Very subtle m8.

For your sleeping problem, I suggest giving melatonin a try. It's a hormone your body naturally produces before bed time and makes you feel sleepy. It's often used by people who suffer from short-term sleeping disorders and/or jet-lag. I'm pretty sure you don't even need a prescription for it if you live in America.

Personally, I'm having financial problems. I think my years of NEETdom are finally coming to an end soon.

Yeah, I wonder that as well. I mean, even if you're a normal with a job and all, I can't imagine what the appropriate response would be.

What should you give priority to?
How do you sum it up?

And perhaps most importantly, most people's lives are really static, so there's absolutely nothing going on. What do you say then?

Well, if we're talking normals, then yeah, I don't think they would have that problem. Seeing someone you know isn't a problem for them.

If it were me though, I'd wait until the hunger got worse than my apprehension of meeting this person. I know this won't help, but try to think of it objectively: the worst that can happen is you looking awkward in front of him. It's not worth not eating over.

If he asks something, say something like "Just the same, you?" People love talking about themselves.

That sounds like a good idea. I've done that with tiredness or alcohol (not a good habit, I know).

Sometimes I'm too sleepy to care what happens or what I do, so I just lumber about the streets like a zombie and I don't care what people think. I wish I could feel like that more often.

Yeah, I have that too, especially when I've been up for more than 13-14 hours.

You can kind of learn to feel like that in normal circumstances, too. Just keep in mind that the only difference between those two is the state of your mind. People generally still don't give a fuck about you or what you do, within reason. Try it sometime.

The mods had no idea what was going on and even mostly ignored it until the spam got to be really serious. The first ban I got for reposting NEET threads was like hours into the spam. It was for an "Off-topic" post and referenced the rule list that mentioned NEET threads as being allowed in the ban reason itself. The threads were being spammed on the basis that nothing had been said by anything that mattered and said as much. It would have taken a single mod or moot post to stop a lot of it.

Well it's not like moot is well-versed in /jp/ culture. He says he lurks and posts here from time to time, but he's obviously not a NEET so I doubt he understands the relevance and history of NEET threads on /jp/. If one janitor whines about how people are making NEET threads and shitposters are constantly derailing, bumping, and complaining about them, then it's easier for moot to remove two words from the Rules page than it is to actually address the issue.

A common theme lately seems to be "get rid of the 1% shitposting by making 99% of ordinary posters suffer". Too much spam? Implement CAPTCHA. One or two people are flooding? 3 hour thread limit. Idiots don't understand sage? Make it invisible. Instead of educating and moderating, moot is taking the easiest way out. He's pandering to shitposters and retards.

How was I downplaying the CAPTCHA?

I would honestly prefer the AnonTalk spam and that one Suicide Girl to filling in a CAPTCHA. It was a couple of times per thread on average, and that's more than enough for a competent mod to handle.

Those spam attacks from that guy on Twitter took place on /b/, and Accelerator spam was mostly on /a/. I couldn't give a shit about those boards, and the regular user base shouldn't suffer (even have to pay money) because the mods can't keep that under control.

/prog/ didn't have a CAPTCHA until recently, and overall it was fine. I guess one or two people got butthurt by that Unicode spammer, but it was enough to ignore. And text boards are way more spammable than 4chan's image boards were.

>> No.11530985,24 [INTERNAL]

>>11530985,23
Don't even try telling moot that, he's under the impression that the entire site was unusable without captcha. I mean there were times when the board just completely crashed for a few hours from spam, but still better than typing shit captchas out.

Well out of interest I just hit a random, popular thread from 3 years ago:
>>3516074

10 spam replies out of what, 300? This is nothing a janitor or mod can't handle.

I did see the legit flooding attacks on /b/ (with the TF2 images) but there are better alternatives than making thousands of users put in extra effort because of 1 or 2 jerks. That's far worse than spam, and I bet the spammer was laughing his ass off.

Even if you have to implement a CAPTCHA, there are better ways to do it. For example, it could set a cookie that expires after an hour. CAPTCHAs are usually used for things like registration, not for every single post you make.

Not to mention moot said it would be temporary. So did Mr VacBob in IRC, when he first implemented the Wakaba CAPTCHA (the one that nobody could read because it's too fucking tiny).

Asking for money to undo a feature added for the staff's benefit is just ridiculous. Next you'll need a paid subscription to post image replies, because some people use image replies to share child porn.

3-4% of the thread really isn't a big deal. And it's not like it can't be fixed. Some of those posts were deleted, and there were recurring URLs that could easily be banned. Also note that it never detracted from the actual discussion.

I just think implementing a permanent, per-post CAPTCHA was a bad solution that feeds the trolls more than it benefits users. What better way to attack 4chan than to piss off its entire user base?

The spam filter was so massive and complex you'd get banned for saying random shit. I caught a two-week auto ban for URL spam when I didn't even post a URL.

I mean theres better ways to go about a captcha. I like the tiny 4-number ones, or even keep the current system but allow like.. 5 consecutive posts before it shows up again.

I doubt more than a thousand people were running that script. That's an afternoon of moderation (ban -> purge all posts -> couple of hours -> problem solved).

What's funny is how easy it was to automate posting. Everyone knew about rape.sh but genuine flooding was pretty uncommon. Yet I'll bet if moot took away CAPTCHA today, dozens of people would start flooding. People can even get their 4chan Passes revoked for it.

It reminds me of cell phones. If those stopped working, I'm sure muggings, rapes, etc. would shoot up, even though we went without cell phones for thousands of years. Same deal with surveillance and developing/future technologies like facial recognition and mass identity schemes.

Point is, what used to be a matter of trust is now a matter of software. So that trust is now gone forever.
