I don't play Patchy often, but I quite like Silent Selene, Satellite Sunflower, and St Elmo's Pillar.

St Elmo's Pillar has graze frames for whatever reason, it catches people off guard sometimes. Royal flare destroys scrubs pretty hard. If you use it correctly, Philosopher's Stone is godlike as well.

How can I practice, /jp/? Even though I've been playing this game for a long time, I feel that I can't do anything on online matches, and using the practice mode only teaches me the few BnBs I can find on the wiki (which I can never use against other people because I can't escape pressure at all and when I do get a lucky hit, my reactions are too slow to follow with a combo). When I try fighting the CPU, I usually get too excited and forget about experimenting things I have just learned, or any new things at all. When fighting people feel that I always do the same things over and over again, and even though I kind of understand where I'm committing mistakes, I can never stop doing them.
It's like I'm always on auto-pilot mode, and its difficulty level is set to super easy mode. Please help me /jp/

You have to play against people a lot. Lose a lot. Learn why you're losing. Try to apply it to your own character. Lose some more. Fine tune what you do. Start to win.

It's a long process, but the only way to learn it is to play against people repeatedly until you realize what works and why.

This might sound silly, but check your deck configurations. Whoever had it before you, and uploaded it to where you downloaded it from, might have taken the all the cards from the current decks. So people could customize them, without having to take all of the cards out.

I'll tell you what I did

First, play against the computer. Stay with me here. Rape the *shit* out of the computer. Know your basic combos by muscle memory. Then go download that improved AI program thingy. Play until you rape *that* computer. Now go play against real players. Get raped in a corner, and figure out how to stop getting raped in a corner by examining your replays and figuring out exactly what decisions of yours led to the rape continuous instead of reversing

Then go onto IRC. N-no offense jaypee, but they're pretty good at this game, so you'll learn more faster if you practice against them than the more casual players that play in /jp/

Except Mexicans, they are pretty big bullies. Picking different characters each match, losing rounds on purpose, demolishing for four matches and then calling "FT5 :3."

The only thing positive that I can say about them is that the best player in Mexico is also one of the best in the world. Too bad he uses his superior power to laugh at new players, like by telling them they can get good by playing nothing but boss rush in Melty and smacking around the Lunatic AI in soku.

The balance is alright but some characters kind of suffer. Hong Meiling and Cirno are considered pretty bottom tier, Sakuya and I think Youmu are considered top tier, with the others being at varying degrees in between

I think Suwako has an absolutely insane corner pressure game, but her movement can be awkward to work with and takes a lot of getting used to

Hong and Cirno aren't terrible, but they do need you to know what you're doing, otherwise you'll suffer.
What, no mentioning Yuyuko? She gets downright stupid bullet AND melee pressure, and even a new Yuyuko tends to be hard to deal with. Great grazing practice though.
Also, gotta mention how some characters are absolutely devastating against new players (eg. Okuu and Suwako) due to people not knowing how to deal with their stuff. Once people figure them out, however, they're not that scary.

Yeah they are. Hong's damage is awful for the amount of effort she has to put into her combos, she has no bullet game, and her melee pressure game is only about *as* good as other melee focused characters like Remilia or Youmu. Cirno's issues I don't know as well offhand, but they're apparently enough for her to consistently clock in near the bottom of any tier list, so take that for what you will

You're thinking about Aya here.
Meiling's ranged bullets are derp and most of her spellcards are somewhat underwhelming, but her 5-cards are easy as hell to confirm.

Cirno has some good stuff going for her, but it takes effort to get used to her lacking range. Makes winning with her all the more satisfying, though.

You really adapted well to my aggressiveness, I suddenly found myself losing momentum more often than I'd have liked to. I noticed that you started pressing buttons a lot more halfway through, in a good sense, keep that up!
I also think I noticed that you don't ever do anything at okizeme, just always backing off. Most of the time you can just keep on attacking me after I've woken up without much fear of retaliation. At least against Komachi, and even against most other characters I feel like you could try being closer most of the time.

I must be an idiot because I absolutely cannot figure out how to get changes in key config to save:

I edit the keys, I hit "x" at the end. It returns me to the config screen and when I look at the profile, it has not been edited.

Nevermind, figured it out. I was using a controller and it seems that you must also use the controller to do the "confirming" of the changes instead of the final key being on the keyboard, or else it will erase it. I just had to figure out which button on the controller corresponded to "x" on the keyboard.

In general there were just a lot of times you backed away from me when I was on the ground to charge some large projectile. If someone's getting up and there's a projectile on them, they'll just dash or jump or tech away. Better to be ready with melee, and rushdown with Meiling 2AAA etc isn't too hard.

...and about Iku, I can't play her so don't take much away from that, except don't fly into thunder 5card haha
