Does anyone know how the doujinshi making process works? How much do they cost to print, or distribute on sites like Melonbooks and Toranoana? I'm wondering because one of my favorite artists that I spoke to about an artbook he made for C84, actually put it up for sale online soon afterwards. However, I asked two other favorite artists of mine awhile back if there was any chance I could obtain a copy (digital or physical) of one of their books they previously sold, and they said it was impossible. One of them told me that he didn't even have a digital copy of his own book. I even offered him 20,000 yen for a digital copy but he said he still couldn't help me. So, why exactly would they not have it or be able to distribute copies after the event they were previously sold in anyway?

I know some stuff about printing shops, I've been in one at least. It costs a hefty amount to get stuff printed. They probably just paid for one batch for comiket, sold them all, and wasn't about to pay for another batch because where would they sell it and who would buy it?

I'm curious as to what the work was that worth that much to you.

Melonbooks and Toranoana as mentioned in the OP. If the book is decent, they will often sell out eventually. Some even sell out during the pre-order period.

Anything out of print and sold out everywhere is going to be worth quite a lot more than its original price. But I offered that much just to determine if it really was impossible for him to give me a copy. It was also a really, really good book though. To me at least.

I just watched Doujin Work.

Can making my own doujinshi make me a millionaire?

This got me wondering if there's any problems reprinting collaborative works. Like that big socks book compilation doesn't have the guest artists from the originals, or most of Socks Book Extra.

>>11355565
Maybe the originals are lost. In that case you'll have to hope it shows up on auction.

I check Yahoo! Auctions jp fairly regularly for anything rare. But I never find much there in the way of rare doujinshi. Are there any other auction sites that people sell them on?

do doujin authors ever just hold on to like 10 copies of their out-of-print book, and sell them over time on auction sites at ridiculous prices?

that would be pretty clever but if people found out there would probably be quite a backlash

Zangy, I tried Sayuri sake today. It's very sweet... except for the alcohol, it tastes kind of like... Calpis or something. Also sorry for deleting you from Steam ;_;
