What would touhou be like today if Japan had won the war?

Would have ZUN have created Gensokyo to have more of a proud, nationalist atmosphere?

Both parties knew that Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was a joke though. The Germans wanted to bring down the communists because they were a threat to the entire world, as we later saw in the cold war when the soviets turned on us almost immediately after WW2.

Germany never wanted to fight a war on two fronts and called for peace with the west many times but Churchill was a blood thirsty lunatic and ignored him every time. Hitler's only real goal in WW2 was to crush communism. The Germans were national socialists, so annexing massive amounts of land that's filled with people who can't identify with Germany at all would have been insane.

The jargon itself is fine, but using it like this isn't. Won what war? How?

Japans objective was to create a unified Asia Pacific empire by purging Asian countries of western influences and bringing enlightenment and prosperity to their fellow Asians so that they could stand on equal footing with the western countries. Their divine right and superiority over all other nations was just nationalistic opiate for the commoners.

Had Japan "won" it is extremely doubtful they would have been able to sustain control over China, Korea, and other neighboring countries. They would not have invaded the US, and probably not get involved in the European war.

However it would have taken a toll on the US for needlessly wasting their resources on Japan, and it would have divided Russia's attentions.

The European war would have lasted a little longer, perhaps a few months to a year. Famine would have decimated much of western Europe especially around Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany, and overall greatly reducing the population.

Wernher Von Braun would have had to surrender to the Soviets and may have been killed and tortured or just went into hiding. The same would have been true for many of the high ups in the Nazi regime, they would have had a better chance of escaping to other countries.

The Dutch royal family would have spent longer in Canada as the country would take longer to recover. The Dutch government and intelligence services would have had to remain in the UK for longer and be more dependent on the UK for much longer. This would result in The Netherlands and Belgium acting more like small forward satellite states against a technologically superior Soviet Union.

Because Japan won it would mean that the US intelligence services weren't what they were and that they might not have even bothered to crack Purple. Friedmann would still have been around but his work would not have been appreciated for whatever reason.

>> No.11242210

>>11242207
The UK would have had the most advanced signals intelligence and cryptographic experts in the world right around the end of WWII and for years to come. Turing may or may not have lived longer, Von Neumann and others would have had more funding made available to them.

With the power of retrospect and lack of NASA the US would have to invest more into computer and cryptographic research and there would be more world between the UK and the US against the Soviet Union which would be the worlds largest super power. There would be no space race. The Soviet Union would own that 100% of the way.

On the other hand computer related research might have become a stronger suite for the allied forces which would remain in a close partnership for a much longer cold war.

Fast forward to 2013 things would start to look a lot more familiar again but computers and network communication would be a lot more advanced, the US would be the world leader in particle physics research, The Soviet Union would probably still be struggling to remain the world super power like the US is now, and The Japanese Empire would have crumbled similar to the real Soviet Union.

Japan would not have been the "Country of Peace" that tried to transform into and would be more of how we see China now. There would probably be no Touhou and a lot of the Japanese media that got popular would not be so popular, there would be less of that kind of cultural exchange between east and west.

Of course that has several implications. The main gaming company would most likely have remained Atari and there would probably be more Apples and IBM machines. Eventually other manufacturing options and markets open up in the east which leads to more familiar stuff, and of course there will still be open source. There would probably be no Nintendo or XBox and probably no DirectX but another company would probably have something similar.

>> No.11242213

>>11242210

Parallel processing, physics simulations, and AI would all be much more advanced than computer graphics. So the gaming world would look very different.

Probably no Touhou, and no Comiket either. But there would still be plenty of interesting stuff.

>> No.11249272

>>11243077
Well there are different types of computers. The computers we know are all based around old models of stuff quickly thrown together with limited resources.

With more research there may have been a chance to properly research other ways of building computers. But the kind of market for computers back then was really different and when the first commercially viable gaming computers were released they were actually dumbed down second or third versions of what's possible because the public couldn't handle the more advanced stuff.

The development and research of high performance graphics and multi-core GPU technology is largely funded by the gaming market. It's hard to say how things would have turned out because the untapped markets that played a crucial role wouldn't be so apparent but there would be other advances.

Perhaps a good parallel is to look at how hobbyist and commercial rocketry and space flight has progressed over the years under the looming shadow of NASA.

But yeah whatever it's just really safe to say Japan wouldn't be a gaming and media powerhouse if they had "won" because their victory was never sustainable and cost a lot, and it wouldn't have let them have the chance to rebuild and reinvent themselves.
