I don't know about that. Original A will be down to just no3b when Tomochin graduates. Meanwhile, Kobayashi and Umeda don't seem to have budged at all, and I'm starting to really appreciate them for that.

I find that I'm rather curious about the kind of chain reaction that Boss Lady or Oshiriko might cause, though, despite knowing what a terrible thing that would be.

I'm in a similiar situation when it comes to AKB, not so much for sister groups. It's not because I dislike the newer gens, but more a lack of new concepts.
I really wish they did something other than Janken this year- it would have been a chance to do a fresh single which doesn't follow the terribly boring seasonal pattern they've had for the last few years.

I personally think that AKB's popularity is due to its story. They were underdogs at first, who really weren't expecting that much popularity, selling quite poorly in their first 10-something singles. But the amazing thing is that while many left for supposedly bigger, better things, some stuck around, and those names will be marked forever in the history of japan's most popular girl group: The Kami7 (or 8). Takamina particularly comes to mind. While Acchan was the face of popularity, Takamina is the face of the struggle, of the one holding everything together since the beginning.
People came for the cute girls and catchy songs, but they stayed for the spirit these girls have.
This is why the newer members mean very little to people. They didn't struggle to get there. They are the ones taking profit from the effort of the pioneers, and there's nothing fun about that.
I'm kind of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to team 4. I personally think that management understood they needed a new sob story that would make the members relateable and likeable. The reason team 4 was created and later dissolved was to have a new group of girls who would be united by their common goal of seeing each other lead AKB. But I don't think they made it intense enough. Yes, Shimada was devastated. Yes, tears were shed, but for some unknown (or known) reason, the girls of team 4 probably failed that task by becoming complacent again.

There are those who do it to become famous such as Acchan with all her acting roles. Rather than having fun I'm more concerned about their friendships being real. This pic was taken when they ran into each other. They were doing different jobs. These kind of pics put me at ease. Acchan had already graduated so it's even better. I think this says a lot, though I know it won't be the full picture. Some of the idols did try it for the sake of just trying, seeing how far they'll go, this is true for Acchan who at first thought that AKB was kinda suspicious (most of the 1st gens did, really). But from then on she grew from someone aimless to a person who wanted to become an actress. I think being in AKB does something to these girls--excluding the ones who actually aim to be something from the get go or the people who wanted to just be part of AKB. Of course they'll treat it as a job, but also something they love doing. There are some harsh realities that happen (unfair management treatment for accomplishments, undeserved pushing etc) that makes them uneasy or frustrated, but they went in knowing that--if they can't handle it, I'm pretty sure they could have just quit.

This is some subbed stuff. AKBingo and 1ji/0ji are the main shows you should check out. The order goes 1ji, 0ji, AKBingo. They are all the same show just with a different name. Bimyo is comedy, Kousagi Dojo is a bit more serious and Shukan AKB is like AKBingo. Then there is Majisuka Gakuen seasons one and two, maybe three. Maybe you'll li 1ji 0jike the anime, AKB0048, Macross style directed by Kawamori. Has two seasons. There are also the sister groups but I'll leave that to someone else to explain.

You might need to define this first. By my reckoning, there's two cutoff points, post-3rd Gen and post-8th Gen. "New Gen" for me is post-8th. There are promising "New Gen" girls, for sure, but IMO, only Yuihan has really stepped up to the plate so far.

The way I see it, for AKB to keep up, there are two roles that need to be filled: the Leader (or the Takamina) and the Center (or the Acchan). It doesn't necessarily have to be a single person, as long as the functions of both roles are fulfilled. Takamina's still the Takamina, and Yuko seems to be shouldering the burden of being the Acchan so far, but they're going to leave, eventually. The potential is there, but IMO, stepping up needs to happen sooner, rather than later.

Yui only got a head start because she was promoted ahead of her gen. I really wished Team 4 wasn't formed a bit after. That made her fellow gens (not all of them though) become complacent and lacked the drive to aim big, which in my opinion Yui still possesses. Her being part of an actual team had a hand in that, I'm sure.

I also think Kawaei Rina is going places lately. I don't have any issues with her so far and her push isn't the Paruru-push which honestly repulsed me. I don't want to blame her for this, but she made no effort to take advantage of her opportunities. And that makes me sad for the future...there's Shimada who works her ass off but can never get a break like Yui or Paru did.

If they did follow through with a next gen appointment, it would be amazing if they gave Shimada the captaincy. Sae's been talking about how hard she works, how she's always taking notes during rehearsals and such, and it would be a great show of confidence in her from the management, making up for her and Oba's situation in Team 4.
