I live in a formerly communist canadian province (Saskatchewan), which is the birthplace of the CCF (now the NDP) and the cradle of canadian healthcare.

I'm not old enough to experience their regime's results firsthand, but my father was a business owner during it and was forced to sell out his business to break even on his investment due to bizarre numbers of government subsidies for competitors who used foreign labor.

Just think about how badly those policies must have been implemented if a COMMUNIST party was putting money into bigger businesses indirectly and killing off smaller competitors.

And thats only a first hand account- the population of the province didn't substantially rise for nearly a hundred years and our lack of success and expansion relative to our neighbors stands to reason as a more macro example. The CCF/NDP set up over 3 dozen crown corporations over the course of six decades, and only two of them (the regionally monopolizing telecommunications company and regionally monopolizing power distributor) DIDN'T lose money overall, causing a complete stagnation in economic growth.

Voter turnout and polling reveals that only poor people and native americans who are too young to experience the effects of the communist regime firsthand are voting for the NDP.
Even among those in low tax brackets, older people are voting more conservatively.

I'm not saying that socialism is inherently bad- only that my own experiences could lead me to this conclusion.

The opposite of taking it easy, along with most of religion. I'd without a doubt be a very angry person if I spent time on either of the two.

>I thought anarchists and communists were similar but when I watched a documentary about the anarchist revolution in Spain, it seems they were doing pretty well until communists started killing them

Communists in Spain were allies of semi-bourgeois UGT. They didn't want revolution to spread because it would annoy capitalistic France which would be bad for USSR diplomacy. The anarchist were just too radical for them.

Basically "the communists" of Spain were just spies for Stalin and the whole Comintern became a tool of Soviet foreign policy. It has absolutely nothing to do with ideology except Stalin really hated people calling themselves Marxists and acting independent of USSR. That's how POUM got slandered as "Franco's fifth column". You can't really understand it without reading material on internal party struggle of Bolsheviks though.

tl;dr: Read Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia" and maybe some Trotsky.

Consistently frustrated. I live in the U.S. so I get my choice between red- or blue-flavored corporate whores. I do vote third party but the vast majority of other Americans don't have the balls to so we all get fucked in the ass by big business. By American standards I'm a commie since I believe in the government providing for the general welfare of the people.
