Hey Anon! What happened to the last doll? I haven't been around. If you're open to crit, the neck looks really short, and the legs are very long (unless that's the look you're going for, a la Soom Rosette and Doll Chateau)

Do you have any sketches or references for the kind of look you're going for with the doll's face?

I also agree with >>10729935 about the neck. A lot of BJD's have necks that would seem disproportionately long, but that is because the doll would look awkward at certain angles, for example, when the head is tilted downward or when the doll is "looking" up. I'm sorry if the explanation isn't clear. It's easier to demonstrate with a DD body (they all have long necks, but when you start to photograph them you realize why).

Motivate you to keep on living ? I am not you father or your friend, but f*, life is about simple things, you have to remember how to enjoy them.
ANYWAY:
Yes, i use the most standard clay i could find to make that doll, A pain in the rear... but highly educational.
I expect to bake it once done, i still have to see how the clay will behave at 1300° knowing i had to reinforce some parts with 0.8 mm steel rods.

I used The Yoshida guide ( with its translation) and http://www.aimi-doll.com/howto/01.html

Investment wise, It cost me 40 euros, I bought some precision drilling tool, but you don't need it; a drill-bit alone will do the job.
Cheap precision files, cheap modelling tools, cheap clay, a pen. and you're set.

Random doll maker here but you don't need a main frame for dolls to stand or hold poses! It's all about how tight you elastic is the balance and proportions of your doll that makes it stand. Also make sure your doll has very flat and even feet by sanding them to Sanding them to an even level. Volks are vinyl and work differently from regular resin beauties ( like supia , dod, and cerise to name a few companies) maybe ill post up a pic of my doll standing tomorrow to show you guys. No. Volks doesn't sell internal frames, and they're not even close to the same kind of doll. I also have that pdf already, but it's an entirely different thing- reading vs. creating. I just find it very difficult to envision and enact what I need to have the mobility I want. Usually in the elbows and knees-- standing is fine, it's mostly about the aesthetic appeal of a bent limb, and the range of motion of those joints. That's what really gets me.

DD arms, feet, and thighs come with the internat frame already inside them. The internat frame of the torso can be bought separately from the bust (allowing you to change bust size). They used to sell the internat skeletons for DDII bodies (when they were first released, I believe) but for some reason they stopped doing that.

>>10735442
Please post pics of your doll! I'm also curious about how you can have a strung BJD hold poses like a vinyl doll. In my experience, when a BJD is strung so tight as to hold poses, they end up with that "kicking syndrome" a lot of the DD type-I's had.

They don't sell internal frames. They sell parts to make a whole doll. They've never sold internal frames. Not even when the DD2 first came out. Why would they? You can't sculpt a doll onto it anyway. Also, they wouldn't even sell me pieces when mine broke.

And strung BJDs can do all kinds of poses, sometimes better than DDs. Clay dolls not as much- the clay usually can't stand the tension from the elastic. Which is why I've taken to resin casting my own BJDs.

Pic is totally unsupported aside from the one hand.

1) is the stringing too loose (floppy) or too tight(kicking)
2) did you properly make the jointing slits
3) do your limbs glide over each other properly?
4) did you add wires to your limbs for posing properly? If the wires are to high up it interferes w/ posing.
I think your best bet is to spend a day string your doll and slowly posing her to pin point problems and try to figure out how to solve them.

I started posting stuff here because the other anon has been and it seems the thread likes following their stuff. It's not even like we're spamming. Dollthreads need more conversation, every one is just "where do I buy?" "u r a faggot?"

Plus, I don't know why you're complaining when I've been in awkward threads where you're talking photography and I have no idea what you're talking about so can't participate. We have a /p/ too.

Tried out another wig for my girl, kind of funny but I guess I'll stick with the previous one. Still waiting for the H-type eyes and got some new clothes coming up hopefully sometime soon.

And maybe I'll dare taking her outside, too. Been a bit rainy and gray for the past few days but once it gets sunnier I might try. >It's not even like we're spamming. Dollthreads need more conversation, every one is just "where do I buy?" "u r a faggot?"
I won't dispute that. The reason a handful of us perpetually keep these alive is to invite discussion. See next:

>Plus, I don't know why you're complaining when I've been in awkward threads where you're talking photography and I have no idea what you're talking about so can't participate. We have a /p/ too.
The dolls that stop people in their tracks aren't snapshots by accident. Photography somewhat go hand in hand with dolls even though it's been ages since we've been faggots about it. It's your own fault for just letting it pass. Instead of stewing in your rage you could have spoken up if you didn't think it was appropriate.

I subscribe to the group theory. If you're with a couple of other people doing the same thing, you look less odd than by yourself.

I don't get how the Japanese & Singapore owners take those incredible pictures in urban settings.

Another great picture. I think both wigs look good. I really like the outfit. Casual and cute.

I've taken my girls outside a few times. The first time, I took my Azone girl out hiking. I purposely had her sticking out of my pack. I only got a funny look from one group of people (out of several dozen groups). Nobody said anything.

The second time, I took two of my DD's out to the mountains to take pictures with the trees changing colors during fall. I saw a couple other people, but they were busy taking photos themselves, and we pretty much ignored each other. No weird looks though.

Don't act creepy and others will just ignore you. If someone comes up to talk to you, they are probably interested in seeing the dolls. They're so cute, how could you resist wanting to see them up close?

Mostly I wanted to bump the /toy/ thread- it's literally the only time I've ever cross-posted. And you speak about a handful of people keeping these threads alive-- trust me, I'm one of them. I've been posting in these threads alongside you for at least a year now. I own DDs too and I occasionally drop my own pics.

And don't be mistaken, I'm not mad at all about /p/ discussion, I just don't think that making your own dolls is any more off topic than talking about photo equipment and lighting for taking doll photos. They're both innate parts of how we enjoy the hobby.

>>10741924
Agreeing with group theory. The only time I've taken my DD in public was with a friend's DDs. It's so much easier. Many people asked if we were shooting for a magazine. Some little girl came up and asked if she could hold one of our dolls, and then rattled at us for almost an hour, her father using us as a babysitter. That was irritating.

I've been trying to work up the nerve to take pictures at a palace here in Seoul before I leave. But that'll take a lot of balls.

Also I'm debating whether or not I want to upgrade my DDII to DDIII arms. The DDs arms are so nice on my DDS Mayu.... but are they worth an extra $80?

/jp/'s preferences are for anime-style dolls, like Dollfie Dream, PARABOX, and SQ-Labs. Odd-looking anthropromorphic resin dolls don't get a lot of attention here because

1) not otaku culture.

2) telling us that another board's doll thread is slow and expecting us to adhere to another board's standard of what constitutes a "proper" doll thread isn't going to encourage /jp/ to change it's opinion on what direction doll threads should go.

There's one of these posters in every doll thread. At this point, I consider it tradition.

whats up with all these pupil-less eyes that are so popular now? At first, DD eyes were too cartoony and two dimensional, then they got a lot better, and now we have these creepy soulless eyes.

In the case anyone else has been looking for a camera prop for their dolls, an eBay search for "canon USB drive" turns out pretty nice looking results - limited edition miniature cameras from Canon that are incredibly detailed. Here's a picture I lifted off figure.fm with one of those. Since the lenses are USB thumb drives, they're interchangeable. The 7D comes with a 18-85 IS USM, 1DX has a 16-35 L and 5DIII has a 24-105 and there's straps, lens caps and all. They're a tad bit larger than 1/3 but not too much, and fairly expensive - from 60 to over 100 dollars due to the limitedness.

Also found a cheaper variation that looked.. decent, but the original Canon ones are immaculate.

I think I'm gonna grab a 1DX for my girl, been looking for something like this for a long time.

She looks quite weird. I liked her prototype more, the actual doll looks off.
