Yeah, I know it's not completely fake. He obviously likes games and has that type of sense of humor. But I think it's more fake than you'd think. I was watching some making of video where he was talking about how he got the idea for the character back when he was in college, and he described it as like an acting role, you know? This. In the early videos it was just the Angry Nintendo Nerd doing his own thing. If you sat down and asked me I'd say yes he's a character, but I mostly got the impression it was just someone hamming something up in an entertaining way. Now with all the special effects and Mike Matei cameos and a movie, it feels like a character in the sense of a creation.

That said, James Rolfe is cool out-of-character. I enjoy the videos where he talks about movies or behind-the-scenes stuff a lot more than the actual AVGN videos. It's also interesting seeing the videos of him as a child. The guy has obviously had a real passion for filmmaking and video games for a while, even though he's not particularly good at either.

I watched some video where he talked about NES games he liked and it was pretty good. He wasn't trying to be funny all that much, he was just someone talking over footage of video games (not enough videos like that on the internet, no sir).
