/jp/ seems to collect a lot of Otaku items.
I collect antiques from Japan.
1.)Please share your Otaku-like collections.

2.)What do your parent's think of all of it as and it's reflection of you?

>> No.10184760

My parents don't know. I hide all my merchandise away and play with it when they go to sleep. I feel like a superhero.

>> No.10184770

I won't bother myself to take pictures; I don't have a camera or a phone, only in my computer, but it's not a laptop.
I hide most of it.
They know "I'm kind of into chinese cartoons", but they don't know about my posters, figures, figmas, nendos... I hide them in a cupboard a la Kirino.
They only see the manga, anime and Gunpla, which is already quite frustrating.
I don't think they like it.

There's kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" mentality at my house.

My parents and I share a Netflix account. I watch alot of anime on it an they haven't said anything to me about it.

I also have a poster of my waifu on my wall. They have seen it, but again, have said nothing about it.

I really don't care if they think it's weird, as long as they don't give me any shit about it.

I'm getting my first set of manga of my favorite anime from a friend for Christmas, and I don't think they will say anything about that either.

I found a dark glazed teapot set with very slight gold accents which my dad apparently was given by a old friend back when he was in grad school, and my mom got me a black cast-iron kettle. My mom likes collecting furniture generally and my dad has a huge classical music collection.

Hey maybe you can help me then.
I live near a giant antique shop. There are a lot of part time workers there. I found this sculpture of this shisa (Japanese Lion Dog Guardian).
I noticed it right away. It was priced at $47 with the tag saying "animal?". Me being an Otaku I knew what it was. Each antique booth is owned by a different person, so this booth didn't know what they had I think.
I asked one of the workers, a elderly man, if he thought the statue was Bronze, as I told that the greenish "rusting" was common on Bronze Sculptures like ancient greek's works. After explaining to him what it was he said "Heh well Son, I don't have a clue. You know more about it than me hahamm." then walked away. If this statue is bronze than it is worth more than $47 in weight alone. If it is bronze than it is likely this came out of Japan made by an Craftsman and the date of creation would be at least 70 - (?) years old.
Do you think it is bronze? I can upload more photos too.

I think it may possibly be brass or bronze. That patina forming on it looks a little more like what brass would get. but how small the amound of patina there is makes it seem more like bronze because bronze takes a lot longer to form a petina. Brass and bronze are very similar and can be difficult to tell apart. But bronze is worth 4x what brass is. But with the deep color it is I'd say it was bronze. Brass would have more yellow. So yes I'd guess bronze. But don't take my word for it.

You may not think it, bu there are quite a bit of studies that show it is train of thought.

The Catholic Church also host programs where homo sexual's have by choice and therapy realize they're actually hetero sexual going on to have happy marriages with others of the opposite sex. With that said the Catholic Church says it is not a sin to be homo sexual, but to act on such feelings is.

It's a long road buddy. You can work through it if you do want to change. If not, than you won't live life as well as you hope for I think.

Like vases?
I just saw one at that antique shop I was talking about. It was made in Japan. Priced at $72. It was meant to be hung in the wall. I couldn't tell what the material it was made from. It looked like a soft yet very hard plaster. The age was unknown to be, but maybe made in the 1970's. I say 70's because of the color design and art work designs on the vase. I should also mention that my parents have always just let me do my own thing, for which I am grateful. Even if they don't agree on some things they accept them. I don't think my mom has actually seen my figures yet, but I'd assume that's how she'd feel because she's artsy and into things like sculptures. She has a pretty huge collection of other kinds of figurines as well; She sets up a lot of "snowbabies" around this time of year and has done so since as long as I can remember. Though I don't think my parents know how deep my interests go since they don't really talk to me on a personal level that much. My parents know what I like but they don't know how varied my tastes are and how knowledgeable I actually am.

My old-fashioned parents would have started collecting reasons to kick me out if they had found out about my interests. I still stick to ones and zeros.

I don't know, and I don't really care.
