If you meant on Extra difficulty, you have to beat Final B (any difficulty is fine) with that team first. If you didn't, and you can't play as them during the normal game, something is wrong. Try renaming/moving score.dat (erases all progress) and see if that corrects it. Other unlockables are listed here.

I'm having quite a bit of trouble on the technical side of Gun Bullet Children. Whenever I get to the third type of enemy you meet, the game proceeds to get jaggy and then outright freeze, although I can still hear my character getting killed over and over.

I know my PC by far exceeds the requirements for it, and can and has played several other danmaku franchises. Any idea what's going on? Google yields little results.

I live by the idea that if I am not good enough to survive and capture a stage I shouldn't be even allowed to move forward. That's what I do. I am fine bombing before and between bosses but ruining a spellcard just feels wrong to me :\

I don't have any problem with that card yet. It's only the 3rd time i face it. My biggest problems are Rorschach, Genetic and Philosophy. Somehow i can't beat those cards without dying. There's one time i used 8 bombs and 2 lives on Genetic of Subconscious only and then timed out it. This time i did a little better and reached Subterranean Rose with 2 lives left. The inexperience with that card got me.

There's a specific way of defeating Philosophy so you only have to mainly focus on dodging the yellow orbs on the second phase. Look it up. As for Genetics, when she does a charge attack it's more better to make her go to the top-left corner so you can always be attacking her so the card doesn't go on as long (you should be able to defeat her without timout, otherwise you don't get the points and powerups).loaded, chuntif

One day when I clear my target, the superplayers would reach my inbox (easily found, like MotK). They would send me a PM consisting of :
1. A formal congratulatory message.
2. A replay. Slightly less than my score. They would say "Here, I made something quick for you, it's only a proof of concept, I made silly mistakes in here and there. Huge improvement is doable by couple of runs, but I'm too lazy"
3. A playtime screenshot, less than one hour to do all that. In contrast, I've been grinding for more than two months.

Then somewhere they would say, "2 months? I could break couple of popular WRs (PCB Lunatic SakuyaB, UFO Lunatic) with that timespan."

That if I can do my target at all. Most likely not going to happen.

I am implying his DDP score. DDP is a popular game. Getting ~70% of WR is no trivial matter, becase of two reasons: a very high level of optimization, and exponential scoring system. Optimization comes from a very competitive scene that has been running for over 10 years at the time he made that score, so the routes in that game is very mature, and extremely hard to execute. Exponential scoring that comes from DDP, means every minor mistake in that game will be magnified greatly, and will shoot your score into flames.

There are two types of person who are able to discredit him from achieving ~70% WR score. One, is a bitter person, who has spent much more time in that game than him, and thinks getting ~70% of his score requires only shitty amount of effort. Another one is someone who is oblivious to two things that I have mentioned that makes scoring in DDP is hard.

I played PoFV for the first time today (the english patched version) and there's backround music only in Cirnos and Ayas battle, the speech doesn't fit in the text box and cuts in mid sentence quite often. Once in the very start of Ayas battle she shot a continuous stream of bullets that looked like Reimus, but when the fairies came to the screen she started shooting normal ones.

Are these normal occurences in this game?

Might be, weirdly they only do it if I've used a continue. It doesn't affect gameplay so I can ignore it.

The music glitch still is there, when I tried to change it from wav to midi, the game crashed. It also plays the same file for almost every track I choose in the music room. When I exit the game there's error note saying "th07_09.mid is not found in arcfile." The japanese un-translated game had the same problems.

Maybe someone with a working PoFV would give link where it was downloaded from?

If you're looking for immediate improvement then avoid tactile switches. From experience, blues and browns suck absolute shit when it comes to making precise movements, which is somewhat essential in Touhou. The tactile click is more harm than good (but it feels great to type on!!!) for things like scoring in IN, to the point where you would be better off with any rubber dome keyboard. For some STGs, especially Touhou, MX reds or blacks are helpful. Blues, browns, springs or Topre are the equivalent of shooting yourself in both hands. But over time, you'll get used to your input of choice no matter the device you use, so in the long run, the keyboard you use doesn't matter as you'll "get used to it" anyway. Don't expect to see any immediate improvement with MX blues, though.

If that is your case, then you will improve a lot. However, I wouldn't recommend Blues for Touhou because of their tactile, non-linear nature. This gets in the way when you want to do a lot of repetitive pressing, such as when streaming. This isn't a problem for games where you are usually bottoming out the keys, but it's not very good for games where it is beneficial to hover on the actuation point, like Touhou.

This is very wrong. You'll only catch on to a game's most obvious techniques by watching videos, reading guides and being bad at it. The most complex games have tons of very fine details that only the most capable players will catch on to after spending hundreds of hours on it.
